This amp is one of the most tone-full amps I've ever had, has the power to really shake a 8x10 cabinet to it's limits, has some really good features, that take some time to fully understand, and once you spend some time with the controls, you'll be able to dial in any tone/sound you want, this amp has a very user friendly biasing set-up ( you'll need a digital multimeter ) this amp will play with ANY speaker combination, as the ohm's are 8-4-2, the weight is typical of a large tube amp, but it is a small pentally to pay to get this type of sound, aside from the slight smell of paint burning in, for the first few hours, there really isn't much negative to say about this amp, all the features can be controlled with the foot-switch, which means you can set-up different sounds and have them ready when needed, the clean channel is one of the best sounding clean channels you'll ever experience, big full and wide sounding, with a-lot of headroom, the dirty channel is blend-able into the clean channel, so you can really control the amount of grit in your tone, the compressors will give you that extra punch, if needed, the amp is very quiet, no fan ...but it does put out some heat, as it is convection cooled, but that is expected with a large tube amp, if your on the edge of trying to decide on what amp to buy, and like to fiddle with your sound, this is the amp to get, ...couldn't be happier!!!!!

Everyone reviewed this good but,

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

One of my bands' bassist has this head, my other other band's bassist has the SVT classic, and I had (until I sold it) the Mesa 400 +. I compared all three extensively with Mesa 2x15 cab, Peavey 4x12, Ampeg 6x10, and JBL 1x15. This Fender is the 3rd best head of the three. I mean who in the hell wants compression on a tube head? The dynamics are what they are all about. The Mesa was the loudest although barely, Mesa Boogie told me that it didnt put out 400 plus watts, more like 300. The Ampeg is the best sounding, I thought, although the Mesa was 2 peoples favorite. Not a bad head, but the SVT is still the one you want. Oh yeah, everyone that reviewed this thing wanted a second cab for the power. There may sound like a lot of headroom but trust me the second cab means you are only putting 150 watts to each cab, but it sounds cruddy and clips easier with 2 cabs. OK head but shop around.

Monster Tone!!! Monster Head!!!

By bassinyrface

from arkansas

Ok, hands down best tone of any bass amp available. The volume this thing pumps out is enormous. I originally bought two 4x10 cabs for this head but using only one cab, I drown out the entire band!! The only bad thing about this head is the weight. I know, all tube amps are heavy but this thing is a monster. Im a big guy and I usually have another person help me move it!! yeah, its that heavy. Get this amp!!

Incredible

By Mark B-H

from Boyne City, MI

I bought this about three weeks ago, and every single time I play it I love it more. I've gigged twice and practiced with the whole band twice, and of course logged many hours practicing solo. It just sounds incredible. It is fat, fat, fat--every note is just huge and immediate and hits you in the gut. It can get loud enough to deafen you, but even on 2.5 played through a single 12" cab, the thing thuds. One note: for the first six or seven hours of use, it smells like a woodstove burning the paint in--not terrible, just hot, and it probably actually *is* the heat from the tubes setting the paint on the housing. No biggie, and it goes away.

Rolling thunder

By ElBrente

from Beaverton OR

This looks a lot like the old Sunn 300 watt amps (it makes sense since fender bought them out) The tone shaping is great, but the power output is almost unbelievable. I tried it out and ran it through a g-k 8x10 in the store and it shook the room and made all of guitars ring at just a level of 3! Thanks to fender stadium rock is still alive, and I feels like it is 1977 all over again. Now only if I could fit into my old flare trousers!

Freaking Awesome

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I got this a few months ago after playing through an Ampeg V4 Pro. The difference is incredible! Where the Ampeg would frequently top out, the Bassman can handle anything I play with clear and crisp tone. The EQ, compression, distortion and channel blend features make this amp extremely versatile for any type of music. Every time I have played out with it, I have received rave reviews about the tone and sound of my bass. It's also extremely loud- I play with 2 guitarists who play through full stacks and I have never had to turn my bass past 4- but it also doesn't lose tone at low volumes. It's a bit expensive, but if you have the money, I would definitely recommend it over other similarly priced amps.

THE ULTIMATE BASS TONE!

By bassermaniac

from Europe

First of all I have to say that I trusted previous reviews on this product and it is just like this. This amp should be one of the best ever made!Amazing sound and plenty of volume that can ruin any cab you have!!I have an SVT-215 and every time I push the volume at 3 (out of 10) it is begging for mercy. So you better combine it with an SVT-810 or two of them!It is that powerful.Another positive is the fact that you can change the sound any time you want. The EQ is fantastic...You can't get a bad sound out of this amp. Just give it some time to warm it's tubes, and it will blow you away. Before I bought it, I tested the SVT-4 pro and it was nothing compared to the 300 pro.Give it a try and you'll see what this monster is capable for.Last but not least is the classic good looking and the excellent quality it has.Very good construction. As regards the SVT-CL/VR i haven't tried them so any comparison it would be wrong. The only thing i know is that 300 pro is an excellent amp despite it's weight, it's price(2100 euros) it's huge size and the fact that doesn't have speakon outputs.Well, overall an amazing amp.

All the Tone you Need!

By Randy-OyPQZ

from Dayville, CT

Well after three years of not being happy with my tone...I went to all tube, and I am glad I did. I think of all the $$$$ wasted searching for the sound and this should of been the first and only one I needed. I heard mixed feelings about all tube bass heads, but this has the tone I need. Easy to dial in. No need for 8 different dials for overall sound, simple to use once you go over the controls. I love this amp and I have found the one that will stay with me for years. I have always been a GK musician, but I went off after playing a different style of music and tried several other brands to get the classic sopund. I still like GK, but it does'nt give the tone I needed for the type of music I have been playing lately. THIS IS THE ONE. It is heavy and expensive but it has the sound I need. Great Product.

Fantastic bass amplifier

By univoxbassman-98VnQ

from Lincolnton, NC

This amplifier just about has it all. Built in compressor and graphic eq. Two blendable channels. footswitch can be used to select channel, turn on/off compressor and on/off graphic eq. Loads of power. This is a great sounding, professional bass head. Here are a few considerations however:1. This is an all tube amp. There is some maintenance and care you must perform that solid state amps do not require.2. This amp gets very hot. It does not contain a fan to move the air; it is very quite but does get hot.3. This amp is very, very heavy.I have gigged with this amp for some time now. I've played on Ampeg, Mesa and other high end gear but this amp to me has more character and a great deal more flexibility. The graphic eq allows me to actually produce the sound that I've had in my head and could not achieve with other amplifiers. But I have always been "biased" towards tubes.
