Why is the reverb so weak?

It is made in Mexico, but a pretty damned good amp --EXCEPT for the weak reverb. I don't get it -- what am I doing wrong? Just totally lacks that traditional Fender reverb power. You could never get Dick Dale Surf tones out of this amp!

Am tempted to trade it in for a Twin or Super Reverb IF the new ones still pack the punch. My older Fender tube amp is 46 years old. What happened?

Bought this new, but had to take it back just to get the non-working foot-switch cord replaced.

A nice basic Fender amp

Owned this amp for several years now, recorded several records with it and used it live at least 50 times.  Its well built and reliable.  I think it's a great amp overall but I will mention a few things that may be helpful to know up front. Like most current Fenders, this amp is exceedingly bright/brittle.  With humbuckers it might not be a problem but with single coils its pretty bad.  Replacing the stock speakers with something much darker from the Eminence line, like the 'Lil Buddy improves the sound drastically, but also adds about 20lbs of weight. The drive channel is buzzy, fizzy garbage but the clean channel is great and takes pedals EXTREMELY well.  It's a great clean base for all types of effects.  The reverb is not as drastic as many other models, which some people may prefer and some may not. Last, changing the tubes can make a big difference in the sound.  Experimenting with 5751s in the preamp and 12AT7 or 12AY7s in the phase inverter will help dial in the sound you're looking for.  Biasing the power tubes hotter or colder also helps change the breakup characteristics to taste. Overall a great amp though, especially if you can afford to customize it a bit.

Honestly, best amp I've ever played, and now I get to take it on tour. I bought this less than a week ago and it's been used 24/7, absolutely insane. I could do with a better drive channel, BUT, I love the drive channel for the gritty distortions I can get from it. God of all amplifiers.

This amp sounds great. The power amp has that all tube sound, it has 60 Watts rms and it is suitable for live play. It is fine for recording but like and high wattage tube amp it needs to be hot to get the warm gain that only a tube amp can, you need to turn it up. The answer is get an attentuator. I have a Marshall bluesbreaker reissue, an Ashdown fallen angel full stack, a Gibson zsuper Goldtone half stack (30 watts class A with a built in attentuator) and a Ampeg. All of them sound great but all needed better tubes than shipped from the factory. I grew up with these amps as current (I was 17 in 1969) and I also still have my 1966 bandmaster with a 2 12 cabinet and a 1968 Showman with a 2 X 15 cabinet, so I have something to compare it to. For now at least we can still get a decent tube amp and this one is one of them. Just find the right tubes!
