I first tried out my Telecaster through the Frontman and was very satisfied with the crisp clear signal (NO HISS STATIC OR ANY AMBIENT NOISE).A previous post about the volume level working from 0 through 2 was absolutely correct. The volume can be adjusted where it can be used at low level as well as crank it out. I have a fairly small studio but it is acoustically very good and volume @3 filled the room.
NOW...The surprise came when I plugged in my Taylor 410CE to port 2. OH MY GOSH. It sounded absolutely fantastic. So this amp will cover many bases from ACOUSTIC to DOWN & DIRTY.
The spring reverb is exactly that "an original spring reverb". If you bump the amp or jump up and down next to it you are going to hear the spring rattle because that's the way it works.
Last but not least when I was a kid my Dad hobbied in T.V.Repair, I learned enough back then to know that SOLID STATE was PROGRESS: Tube's actually wear out and are Extremely sensative to any kind of shock or vibration, temperature etc... Why do you think the BOSS1600 recorder has been in production for going on for at least 8 years in a row with the only change being a larger hard-drive, and there is not a TUBE in the thing.
If this amp had a footswitch for the reverb she would get a 10 from me.
Someone in a prior review commented on the cabinet being made out of "particle board". This amp is very well made and if you treat it like what it is ( A piece of electronic equipment) and not a bowling ball. I don't see why it should not hold up for years. Try to find a piece of average furniture these days that isn't made out of particle board.
You are not going to beat this amp for the price!!!!! I've owned Fender's,Peavey's & Crate's in the past and the "clean channel" on this amp is the best I've ever heard.
TUBES?????See my opinion under overall rating. Unless you play like Atkins,King or Clapton...No body can tell the difference anyway.

In the late 60's I played a Gibson ES330 with P90's through a Fender Bandmaster tube amp. Today I play a P90 equipped Epiphone Riviera through the Fender Frontman 212R. Not exactly the same, but very close and very sweet. Very close to the tube-driven Twin Reverb sound I remember on the clean channel. This amp is a keeper! If you love blues, rock or country, and need a VERY LOUD amp - don't think twice, just buy it!!!
Lots of sound and thumpy lows through two 12" no-name speakers. Three EQ controls on each channel make tone-shaping easy. Reverb is very nice. Even though the tank is small, it is true spring reverb and is very sweet sounding. It comes with a foot switch which is somewhat unusual at this price point. The clean channel is fantastic, drive channel less so - it seems a bit thin and transistor-sounding . If you are planning to use this to play metal, forget it. But then...why would you even consider a Fender 2 X 12 open back for metal? Looks like a late 60's Twin Reverb, which at my age is a real plus in itself.
Seems to be very well made, no complaints at all.
Price is great, especially considering that I bought it used from the Musician's Friend website. it was listed a less than perfect, but I cannot see why it was not shown as like new. It did not come in the original packaging, which is the only reason they must have not considered it to be perfect. Their ratings are always very conservative and I have had only the best of experiences buying used from MF.

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I owned this amp for a couple of years, there is no doubt that this amp is powerful but it's sound was a bit lacking. I loved the clean channel, at any volume it sounded beautiful. That being said it took pedals very well. The gain and mid contour sounded pretty average, I would describe it as not very "full" sounding. You can really crank this amp, I had minor issues with construstion. I had to tighten many screws that came loose, not too much of a problem. I sold this amp to help buy a 40w tube blackstar. If I could go back in time I would probably buy a smaller tube amp for the money. I never even put the volume past 4 and I used to jam loud with my friends. If you are playing large and or outside venues and this is your budget go for it. I would rather have a smaller higher quality tube amp that I could crank.

this amp is great, its really loud and the reverb is great, not too much where it totally over throws the sound of the guitar, and not too little. just perfect. for the price, its awesome, its perfect for jamming, and small gigs.i have had this amp for about 3 months and there has been no problems whatsoever. ive been playing guitar for about 10 years, and ive played some marshalls, and this thing totally competes. the only down side is there isnt much effects, but for the price its alright.

this was the worst purchase i have ever made.

at one point the sound started cutting out. was able to get a new one thanks to the 5 year warranty. when you take it to a fender dealer they just give you a brand new one, which i think shows how cheaply built these things must be.

        go with a tube amp.

Great clean tone solid state amp! I'm not a fan of the dirty channel but I didn't buy for that. I use a Digitech RP1000 for my effects and this amp just pushes great tone! Works great with active and passive pups. 7 and 8 string guitars sound great as well. Just but this amp....you'll love it!!!!

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Dont buy this amp expecting that nice, warm, rich, TUBE sound. This amp sounds good, but in its own way. The distortion is great for blues, but will feedback back way too much before it can come close to melting faces. The reverb is surprisingly decent.

The best part about this amp?!?! Its great with pedals!! I've run my Vox Tonelab through it and it never ceased to amaze me. Then moved on to a Boss ME 70, and it still tears up!! Now I'm using a combination of those, and my pedal board. Its great!!

This thing is a monster!! In my house it rarely goes above 2 1/2. 3 or 4 when im playing live. How ever, it does have this annoying rattling noise when I hit my open A string or the A on the E (5th fret). Sure its an easy fix though.

So all in all, this a fantastic amp if you have a decent pedal board or an multi effects pedal. Even if you plan on getting one sometime in the future. But dont expect a TUBE sound from a SOLID STATE amp then complain about it. Its the loudest/best amp for the money you'll ever own!!!!

Comments about Fender Frontman 212R 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I replaced my Line 6 "Spider III 120" with this amp and so far I'm happy with my choice. I didn't dislike the "spider" but just couldn't get a nice clean tone from it. This Fender has very nice clean tone and is plenty loud. I'm currently experimenting with the effects "loop" vs having them inline with the guitar cable. My guitar is a Schecter "Blackjack" Tempest with the true SD '59 and JB humbuckers. So far so good with the sound.

It is built very well and I don't anticipate any problems with durability. I've purposely left it on overnight several times to give the circuits a good test.

I look forward to getting the speakers broken in to hear just how good it will sound.

I may, at some point, install better quality speakers. I did that with a Fender "Champion" tube amp and it made a huge difference (along with replacing the horrid OEM tubes).

Overall it is a great SS amp for the money.
