It is a MUST Buy all the way from Beginners to the Professional. I guarantee you Will not regret buying this little AMP. It sounds Great with my LTD-M300.
I being playing guitar for almost 11 years so I'm not exactly a beginner. The futures of this AMP are amazing, 24 pre-set FX PLUS the ability to Morph the 24 pre-sets giving you the possibility of over 50 FX. It has a built in USB module which allows you to plug the amp and Record straight to the Computer using the included software called Ableton Live 8 and Fender Fuse. Tottally Amazing.
The quality of the Fender Mustang is by far one of the best I have owned. The Mustang 1 Comes standard with an 8 "inch" speaker and 20 watts, If that is not enough for you but still want the Mustang futures? Fear not there is also a Mustang 2 and 3 which include more watts for more power and louder sound. The over all sound quality is Great 9/10. The Built in USB, Amazing 10/10. The Built in Sound Effects 9/10. The included software 10/10.All for the Low price you can't beat it.This AMP is far superior than the Fender Frontman R25 not because all the extra futures that the R25 doesn't have but simply on the Sound Quality alone.
Best Value... I can't stress it enough, Great Quality, Great Sound, Great Software. This AMP feels like it is worth 200+$'s

I purchased the Fender Mustang I 20W Guitar Combo Amp about 2 weeks ago. The amp plays OK and sounds OK, but for my likes, it has far too many adjustments, knobs, and too much stuff already programmed into the amplifier for my likes. I spend too much of my time fiddling around with the knobs trying to get it to sound right instead of playing the guitar.

Ordinarily, having a lot of adjustments would be a good thing, but so many of these adjustments affect not just one feature or sound but many features or sounds. This makes it difficult, if not impossible, to make a simple adjustment to the sound. I much prefer the Vox Pathfinder 15R amp which I own. It sounds just as good, or perhaps better than the Mustang I, and it's much simpler to adjust to get the sound that you want. It also costs about the same (a little over $100).

The Mustang I does have many different sounds already programmed into the amp and it's easy to select one of these sounds. The problem is that I don't like most of the sounds already programmed into the amp. On the few sounds that I do like, they may sound good for one or two songs I'll play, but when I want to play a different song, they don't sound good with that song and it's very difficult to make an easy adjustment to the sound on the amp.

In short, if you like to spend your time fiddling around with knobs and hearing different sounds instead of playing your guitar, then the Mustang I would be a good choice. OTOH, if you want a good sounding amp that is easy and simple to adjust that doesn't have all this other crap pre-programmed into it, then get the Vox Pathfinder 15R amp. The Vox sounds very good and you can adjust it to the sound you want in a couple of seconds instead of spending all your time messing with knobs trying to get a sound that you like.
I rated it 6 of 10 on features. For my likes, there are actually too many features, adjustments, knobs, etc on the amp.
I give it a 9 of 10 on quality. It seems to be well built.
I give it a 8 of 10 on value.

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

You need a degree in Mustang use to use this. It never seems to come on doing what it did the last time I used it. All I want is a little bit of reverb and a bit of distortion. Great product if you want to spend your time programming the combo, not so great if you want to spend your time playing the guitar. I definately don't want to spend any time fiddling with my computer to program this thing. I play the guitar to relax, not to get aggravated with some combo that wants to steal my time. It is one frustrating experience from being tossed off the balcony and down the side of the mountain. Best use for this thing would be to fill it with cement and use it as a boat anchor.

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a very worthwhile investment for the price for the serious musician to the weekend novice. I've been playing it almost nonstop for a month now and haven't scratched the surface of available tones. For this price bucks it simply cannot be beat.
This little amp (Mustang I) has the volume of something much bigger. The only downside is installing all of the necassary downloads. The Fuse program itself isn't too bad, but it also comes with Ableton Live Eight software. This is something of a recording software like Pro Tools or Garage Band and is much more in depth. I recommend not installing it and just stick with the Fuse. Once enabled, this amp really comes alive. You have your choices of several Fender models, Vox models, Mesa Boogie, Marshall and several others. This is what they are based upon and you can tell by what the amp looks like once dialed in. You do have to spend a little time getting to know it, but once that aspect has been done you'll know this software inside and out relatively quickly. Plus you have the Fender Online Fuse Community to upload or download presets, and help wth any installation questions.
The sounds YOU create are anything you want them to be. The presets are ok for simply plugging in and playing. It's a rugged little amp, very light weight with a conveinent carrying handle that can be pushed down and be somewhat flattened. Good quality construction.
For the price this thing just cannot be beat. I know that tube purists will probably not like this thing, that is until they play it and hear the amazing tones and sounds that the Mustang I can create and/or recreate. This I know from first hand knowledge.

Absolutely my Best purchase for under $100!

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Plays great right out of the box. Easy to transport. Lots of options. Solid build. Great Job Fender!!
Ok, so the Fender Mustang I is a 20W solid state amp, but this thing has about anything you could possibly want out of a practice amp for this price. I own the larger Fender Mustang IV and the tones that come out of this little thing are almost right on with it. The only difference is the speaker itself, but if you listen through the handy headphone jack, it's the same - plus it doesn't bother anyone else. Hook it up to a computer by USB and use the Fender Fuse software and you unleash a whole new animal. High quality transfer through the USB and if you want to play along with your mp3 player, it has a convenient jack for that as well. I have to say that this little amp is also louder than I thought it would be, bonus.
The make is pretty solid, yet lightweight. I love the textured coating on the amp exterior. Even though the input jack is plastic, it's tucked in better and more secure unlike the Fender Frontman 15R (which I also own, and broke).
Also having payed for the Fender Frontman 15R a few years ago for the same purposes, the Mustang I amp is a major improvement and I actually payed less for it. I really can't say enough about the value of this little amp and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a practice amp. Get it; It's worth way more than you will pay for anything else in the next $100 range.

I've enjoyed this amp and software for a couple months and today the usb recepticle stripped off the board it was attached to, (attached by just the tiny little pins, not mounted), as I tried to connect the usb cable. I still want to use the amp, so, I went in and retrieved the little part so it won't short anything and cause more damage. While the amp was open, I took a look around. Some of the assembly is good quality and some isn't. I won't get this repaired and I won't recommend the amp to a friend.

Little Amp with a Big Sound

    By Guitarz

    from Los Angeles

    See all my reviews

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a great practice amp for a small room/studio, home office or bedroom. There's lots of reverb though, which you can't seem to change, that I'm aware of anyway. This is the perfect practice amp for musicians who like metal and lots of different preset distortion effects. For the "clean" guitarist, from what I have experienced, there seems to be only one "clean" channel/preset, which again, has a lot of reverb. If you like reverb and lots of heavy metal effects, this amp is absolutely for you! For the guitarist who likes that "clean" sound, the one clean preset is acceptable, even with all the reverb. (Maybe if I learned how to use the FUSE software better I can find a "clean" sounding preset that can give me that clean twang with less reverb?) Last words of advice: Read and understand the User Manual if you want to get the most out of the FUSE software.
I've had this amp for a couple months. So many effects and possibilities. You get eight basic presets with eight more possible (sub) preset effects per each basic preset, and that's without the FUSE software. Add the FUSE software (via USB to your computer) and you can customize each and every preset in more ways than I can imagine. Plenty loud for a practice amp, in fact you could easily use this amp for a small gig, but I'm not sure how loud you can turn it up and still maintain its nice sound. I've never had to turn it up above 5. Use the headphone jack for privacy and peace and quiet in your house or condo or apartment.
True Fender look and feel. I haven't opened it up so I can't speak for the workmanship or electronics inside but seems durable and lightweight.
"10." This is a no brainer. The built in (presets) effects are probably worth the price alone, not to mention the free FUSE software. A great 20W value!!

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Owned the Mustang 1 amp for about six months and I can say it is easy to use and fun to play. It has good clean sounds and has good overdrive and distortion as well. Some of the amp models are the best I have heard and the others are just plain good. Works best when connected to your computer using the Fuse software provided, so you can select different amps and effects to your liking. Also when connected to Fuse online there are presets for just about anything you want to play or you easily make your own. I short it is as great little practice amp with infinite sounds and is a bargain too boot.

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I was lookng for a small versatile amp to use at a beach place. I've been playing for 50 years and have a number of good tube amps and guitars. I just wanted something I could noodle around with in the living room.

This amp fits the bill perfectly. Small, nice fit'n'finish and design. This thing really sounds good to me. Pretty warm for a cheap circuit board amp, with nice bottom from the closed back speaker. Nice range of cleans and overdrives. The effects tend to be a little too strong but can be controlled using Fuse software.

I'm pretty computer savvy but found FUSE a hassle to download, set up, and use. Once you get it going, it does provide a wide range of some pretty good settings... e.g., I like the SRV "Lenny" clean.

Bottom line is this thing is a unbelievable deal. An amp at this price with this kind of appearance and range of sounds ?!?!?! Also have a Roland Microcube and like it, but you can't get the depth out of that little speaker... the Mustang is much fuller sounding and versatile... Amazing!

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is fun. I have a good time discovering different guitar tones and effects while playing electric guitar with this amp. It is well-made and intuitive. There is a learning curve to this amp, because of the complexity of what it has to offer, but that is all part of the experience. Overall this amp deserves a 9 out of a 10.
This Fender amplifier is loud. It has built-in guitar effects. This amplifier can be connected to a computer and operated with Fender software. It has a built-in chromatic tuner. It has amp modeling. It has distortion effects. It has tone controls. It has headphone output.
This Fender guitar amplifier is sturdy, tough, and well built of quality materials. It feels strong all around, and no part of the amplifier feels weak or cheap.
What you get for the purchase price of this Fender guitar amplifier is really a great value. This amp has many features and huge quality for a low price.

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp as a gift for my brother, but until then, I own it. When I read the long list of features, I couldn't believe the low price and had to get it just to see/hear for myself. It has an amazing arsenal of sounds, but even a pro in the biz may discover that finding the sounds you like (& can use) might be rather daunting & even a bit complicated. I calculate something over 11 hundred possibile variations (not counting the web FUSE sounds) & all for less than a Franklin. I also couldn't believe how LOUD this thing can be. I expect my brother might prefer something a little easier to use, but many such amps are in the same price range, so I got the most for the least. It appears that Fender was trying to copy the Vox AD-VT line (which I own & use), but sell for half the price. My Vox VT50 is 4x the price, bigger & much heavier, but getting the sounds you want & can use is a lot easier. Therfore, the only negative about the Mustang amp IS ease of use. Otherwise I might keep it (or get another one) as a backup or spare for my main Vox stage amp. Unless you really get INTO this amp (FUSE), don't expect anything but frustration. In short, for a beginner, you could be playing the amp more than your guitar. However, (IMHO) the value for your buck is excellent! READ the manual & do FUSE.

Great Amp, for the money you will be left satisfied to the point that you think this should cost much more than it does. Go out to a music store or order this online TODAY!
I bought this amp in the beginning on 2012 since I had the urge to upgrade from my small amp. This thing does the trick! Right out of the box I almost felt ripped off cause the distorted presets on the factory channels were mad bad. They sounded very digital and bassy, especially the Metal 2000 and American 90's Presets. I figured to try out the Fender FUSE software. I did and oh boy am I glad. This unleashed this amp's Beastness. Took me a little while to figure how to get optimal quality of sound. But once I did I changed my channels into presets i would use and they sound very authentic and not digital like factory settings sounded. Now my Distortions and Overdrives sound GREAT! Clean presets are quite amazing sound like the real deal amp they are modeled after. For 20W this is extremely louder than I expected. I never go above 5 on the master, and 5 is pretty darn loud to jam inside your house! I have yet to crank it up to 9 or 10 and hear the amp for myself. I play blues and all types of Rock! SUPERB Amp for Blues, Classics, Soft Rock, Hard Rock. A super Great BUY!
Everything is great! Quality is a very solid build. The material and design is almost like Carbon Fiber, which gives it a smexy look!
The Price Tag speaks for itself! Are you kidding me? Does it seem like I'm joking? ORDER THIS THING TODAY!

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Excellent value, good construction, fair sound quality. Fender online support has been exceptional.
I have a whole roomful of small amps both tube and solid state and this does more than all of them put together.
I bought this little amp back in Jan 2011 for its ability to hook up to my laptop, the usb connection and software that came with it more than justifiy the cost of the amp plus you get all the effects with endless adjustabilty. Many amp models are available and when used with the Fuse software effect pedals are adjustable just like the real ones. The tuner on the amp is nice although when using the Fuse onscreen display the delay is excessive. Software is updated often and has cured several noise issues.
The amp models are quit good for the Fender styles, although I do not care much for the higher gain setting and my Vox AD15VTXL or Roland Microcube do those much better, but I bought it for the Fender clean and blues sounds.
The controls, headphone and USB plugs feel very fragile as they are attached directly to the pcb and should be handled gently. The cabinet is particle board that feels strong and covered with a carbon fiber pattern vinyl covering.
Sound quality is good for a 8" speaker in a small closed back cabinet. Been playing mostly with my Fender Strat and there is plenty of volume for home recording/practice, look at the Mustang 2 if you want to jam with a drummer or play live.
One complaint is there are no detents on the preset knob and effects which makes it difficult to select one or the other without overshooting the desired setting. Also there are no labels on the Mod and Delay/Reverb controls which means you will have to memorize the 24 settings.
There is more stuffed into this little amp for the price than any thing else on the market, plus you get great software to explore that opens up another level of fun.

    Great Amp

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Out of the box, the amp won't sound good. You must use the Fender Fuse software to do "deep editing." Then you can get any sound you want. You won't find a better practice amp for the money (but you must use the Fender Fuse software). If all you want is a basic practice amp, a Roland Cube 20XL has great sounds and is plenty loud. If all you want is modeling, a POD 2.0 will work. You can dial in the POD settings more quickly. If you plan to deep edit the POD 2.0 using a computer, however, then you might find this amp a better deal; the deep editing for the Fender Mustang using the Fender Fuse software is awesome. The interface is better than the Line 6 Edit software for the POD, and the choice of both pre-amp stomp box and post amp rack effects (as well as amps and cabinets) is impressive on the Mustang I 20W.
As long as you use the Fender Fuse software, this amp will be a great practice amp for you. It is very light (lighter than a Roland Cube 20XL). Hooks up easily to computer using a USB cable for deep editing with the Fender Fuse software.
This is a no brainer. Super amp for the money. You're getting an amp plus superb modeling (if you use the Fender Fuse software).

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Overall this is a fantastic package for learning and practicing. I would recomend it to highschool students and parents buying their kid a guitar for christmas or something. my grandma just bought it for me as a christmas gift a few years ago, despite my current rigs. gotta love grandma.
This amp has a lot of nice effects and amp/cabinet modeling capabilities, with a good, usable interface and perfect volume for bedroom practice levels with some headroom. It comes with basically the same set of effects that todays modeling amps come with, the difference is that the individual effects are much more editable with the Fender FUSE(tm) software, than any other modeling amp I've come across. Without the software, though, the effects and amps are not editable at all except for an on/off switch. But the software is free, so thats not really a problem. I haven't seen editing go as deep as speaker biasing and sag controls for amps/cabinets in any other amp. The reverbs (which there are plenty of) have 5 parameters (level, decay, dwell, diffusion, tone), for example. This array of controls can be intimidating at first but it's a great way to learn what they do for when you get more expensive gear. Which is what makes modeling amps such a wonderful thing, new players can learn the tonal and responsive differences beween a marshall, a vox, a badcat, and a fender, and then find what they like and discover their own sound. This amp does its job very well.
The stock 8" speaker isnt the best you can find, but a new player wont be able to tell the difference. The effects aren't professional grade but they do the job and they can be very fun to play around with. I would gig with a more powerful version of this amp (like the IV or V), it's decent enough. The sound quality on this model, though, decreases drastically as you crank the volume up. Playing with a drumset in a basement might cause you to blow the speaker out. Keep it at bedroom levels and you'll be very happy with the sounds.
With everything in this package, i think it's a fantastic value. Direct recording is decent for geting ideas down and sending them to your drummer to practice with, etc. dont record an EP with it though, unless you like getting laughed at.

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is amazing! It has tons of presets and effects you can add to those presets. The software opens up a world of possibilities, if you can figure out how to use it.

Sound quality of this amp is just great. Everyone I talk to says they cannot believe an amp like this would cost around 100 gold.

I've always been impressed with Fender amps, I promise this will not disappoint! For at home practice or even recording, you cannot go wrong with this amp.

    A+ Fender

Comments about Fender Mustang I 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I got this amp in a trade from a friend in exchange for finishing a La Cabronita tele body. The amp is warm, despite the small speaker (8") it is very bassy and not flabby at all. The speaker is well-voiced to the cabinet and amp.

The tones I can get from this thing are many and varied. Pristine cleans, grinding grit, and even some very strange stuff (Step filter, anyone?) can be produced with relative ease.

So, I love the amp, my main beef is with the Fender FUSE software. It's good but it definitely has some issues. Feels very much like a work in progress.

Individual beefs, in no particular order:

There are eight effects slots, four pre- and four post-gain, but in reality, you can only use four total. If you try to, say, do an overdrive, and then a fuzz (one of my favorite sounds), it won't let you, because you can only have one each of "stomp box", modulation, delay, and reverb.

Another problem is it's rather difficult and counterintutive to export presets from the PC to the amp itself, and import in the opposite way. I still haven't figured out how to do that.

There are only a very few amp models, and that's okay, because they're quite versitile, but i really don't need two marshals and 3 tweed fenders. Also, who ever used a Fender Super Sonic? I'd rather have a Hot Rod Deluxe in that slot.

The software has no tap tempo, you must use the button on the amplifier. This works in theory, but the tap tempo always defaults to the last modulation/delay/reverb effect in the chain, instead of, say, allowing you to select them individually and assign tap. So when i have reverb on, as i often do, i can't set my chorus or phaser to the tempo, it sets the decay time on the reverb instead.

The Fuzz stomp box has five knobs, level, gain, octave, low, and high. The octave knob does absolutely nothing as far as i can hear. I would rather have a mid knob, as on the overdrive.

On the Mustang I/II, the effects combination knobs are difficult to edit, very counter-intuitive. I have figured out how to do this one, but it took me around 15 minutes. On my first-gen VOX Valvetronix, modifying effects and storing presets was as simple as twisting the knobs and hitting the save button twice.

Overall, the Fender Mustang I is a good value, the software has a wee bit of a learning curve for some of the deeper features, and there are some things that could be improved in it. Overall, the amp gets a 4.5/5, the software a 3/5
