Great amp with many useful tones, especially the cleans. For metal tones I prefer my stompboxes but they are still quite serviceable, if not great. For the money, a wonderful amp. I have other lunchbox amps and none touch it for versatility and tone.

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 HD 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I just got this amp yesterday and immediately went to rehearsal. Plugged into a Hughes and Ketner Cab and was absolutely blown away by the sound. I have been playing for over 45 years, using several different types of amps including old bassmans, super reverbs, twin reverbs, vox, acoustic, kustom, etc. Based on other reviews, I was expecting pretty much, but got even more. This amp is really amazing (at any price) Fender really built a gem (again).......My (heavy) vintage twin is now relegated to a back-up. Going to build a cab with a 12' Jensen Mod to go with the head.....get one of these NOW!

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 HD 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Great sound at low volume! Also has the power to cut thru a mix in the clubs, and just jam out loud! Wouldn't believe 15 watts sounds so good. Seems it really likes the SG's. What I don't like is the rotary control for the f/x. Everybody does it and they all suck. The combinations I want can't be dialed in. Fortunately the clean channel allows the use of my own effects chains so no real problem. The Fuse software wasn't very useful to me as I don't want to sound like someone else, and I don't want to waste time downloading when I got an IDEA! The line out is good for recording as it plugs right into the line in on the R8 Zoom. It works very well as an acoustic amp as well, just mike the guitar, play with the effects and get some great one of a kind sounds. On the downside, there is no phones jack (big deal), so practice in the middle of the night is difficult but not impossible. All in all, a good Fender amp.

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 HD 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this amp to have a more versatile home rig. This little tube driven head seems to do it all. From the heaviest crunch to nice warm jazz tones and effects. And everything in between. I'm so impressed I might have to see if it will keep up with a drummer at rehearsals. May bring to next studio session as well...

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 HD 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This little amp head is an absolute killer. Out of over 25 years of playing music, I think this is the best amp I've ever bought for the money. And, I've had lots - Mesas, Fenders, Line6, Marshalls, Carvins, Digitech Modelers, Oranges....you name it.

What I love about this amp is that its super clean channel (channel A Super Champ) and it has 16 other amp models, combined with a tube. I'm usually not a huge fan of modelling amps, but I gotta tell ya, this thing is excellent. Out of the box it sounds good, but the key is the FUSE software. It's a great piece of equipment to dial in "your sound". I'm running this thru a Carvin 212 vertical stack, and it sounds amazing. Seriously, it's better than my Carvin V3, at half the price and a lot more flexible. It also loves pedals - no fizz at all and my handwired VOX wah wah - creamy and smooth, probably the best wah I've ever heard/personally played.

I record out of it (via the out jack) and it's clean as a whistle into the PA/computer. Nice and crunchy when you want it and plenty powerful for a gig, plus totally portable. It'll give you Fender Twang or great bust a gut distortion (my favorite is playing "China Grove" on the Semisonic - setting #13) on my Carvin CS3 (Les Paulish); just nails the sound.

I am telling you, it's an unbeatable deal. I've played it 3x so far, and it's my favorite hands down. Blows everything else out of the water. Now I gotta sell all this other stuff!

I am VERY HAPPY with this purchase. Do yourself and grab one before they're gone. You WILL BE AMAZED. I was.

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 HD 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I actually bought one of these just after it came out and unusually for me bought it 'blind'. I have, since that day been absolutely blown away with this little beauty. I won't repeat what everyone else has said but I will state that it's all true! I found my way around it's power limitations though: I bought a RAT dummy load and use the 'recording' line out to a Tech 21 Power Engine 60. I use this to gig my Princeton too and it works a treat. All the power I need and it means I can use this little stunner for virtually everything.
Great base tones, effects are good too but prefer the control that independent pedals give me, so can't really comment. Covers almost all ground I've ever been confronted with. Toyed with getting one of the Vox AC30VR amps but really have no need with this setup!

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 HD 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Further to my review of Jan 7 2013, I used this amp and matching 1x12 cab for a year's worth of performance, rehearsal and recording situations and so far it has shone every time. My opinions of this amp have since altered, but overall not for the worse. On the downside, with a modest 15 watts I often need to slave it via the line-out to another amp for gigs, esp where you don't have good monitor sound, and loading an extra amp is a pain. But the tones out of this head are so good it's totally worth it to me. It's loud enough on its own for rehearsal with my loud-ish hard rock band, and ideal for recording as you can get such variety of great tube tones. Best of all, I get a ton of compliments on the tones out of the SCX2. Every other musician I have played with has said how good it sounds. It's versatile – I don't use a lot of effects, but I used FUSE to customize all my effect and voice settings and save them to the amp in my slots of choice. If you wanted to you could have a unique voice and effects setting for specific songs in your set. But this is not a Mustang, it's best at raw, tube-driven clean and overdrive tones, it excels tone-wise across the board from clean jazz to metal. Now that the tubes and speaker are fully broken in, the amp just sounds killer, there is no other word for it. I almost didn't buy this amp because I was worried it would not be loud enough – well it's not actually, sometimes – but man I am glad that I did, what a smokin' amp this little beauty is.

This amps really rocks! Just getting started and there are so many choices with this amp and fender fuse software. Sounds really great with closed back cabinet. I'm an old rocker from the 70s and 80s, and this gets the sound right on target. If your looking for a vintage tube sound at a fraction of the the price........ buy it!
Thanks again Musicians friend for another great deal! You gals and guys are outstanding!

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 HD 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I'm always looking for a small (portable) gig and practice amp that sounds like a black face Twin Reverb and a hot rod Marshall. I've accumulated a ton of amps over 30+ years of banging on guitars. This little fella stopped years of hunting for the perfect amp and coming up empty. I tried it in a big box store with a Blackheart single 12" cab. It drew a crowd right away. I had to have one.

The SCx2 head with my own speaker (a Warehouse Guitar Speaker Reaper 55hz in an open back Avatar 2x12 cab) sounded better at home than it did in the store…and that is saying something. The cleans rivaled, no actually surpassed, both of my Rivera Era Fender Concert (IIs). This thing actually made me believe I could be playing a mid '60s black faced Pro or Twin Reverb. I was convinced with the right pedal, this could be the portable practice amp I'd been looking for. The distortion voices weren't bad either, especially at louder volumes. So testing proceeded. I rewired my Avatar cabinet for two speakers at a combined 8 ohms (one 16 ohm Reaper 55hz, and one vintage Vox Silver Bell Celestion). Sounded even better, fuller, richer. Oh, and I should have mentioned like bass, especially in my cleans. Then testing took a whole new twist. I downloaded and installed the Fender Fuse software on my computer and hooked up a plain old usb cable. This is an absolute must, if you buy one of these amps.

Fuse software does many things. First and foremost, it allows you to see (and edit) the amp and cabinet simulations that are used for each "voice". It also gives you access to adjust amp controls that are not physically on the amp face, like mid-range tone control, or in some cases presence, and virtual tube bias. Fuse lets you add delay, reverb, chorus, compression, overdrive, tremolo, and some other effects to your "voices". In short, the Fuse software opens up the range of tonal possibilities exponentially.

The amp and cab simulations give more than adequate range of tonal choices. Some of my all time favorite real amps are simulated, including the 4x10 Bassman, Princeton Reverb, Twin Reverb, Jazzmaster, 60s Vox, 70s Marshall, a Dual Rectifier, and what may be Soldano. I saved 16 killer preset "voices", from sparkling ultra-cleans to dark aggressive metal tones, and everything in between. No dogs in the bunch. The cleans are nearly as good as any "real" tube amp I own. The distortions are believable and cutting. I haven't felt the need to stick a pedal in front of it after five weeks of tweaking. And, they all sound great a high or low volume. I even went out and bought a single 12" cabinet to see if these sounds would hold up as a more portable version of the "rig". It does!

The second channel is where the fun is. It adds physical gain and volume controls to the shared physical bass and treble controls, and a voice selector (1-16), effects selector and mix level to blend effects in. Using the Fuse software you can dig into the simulations to select an amp, select speaker cabinet simulations, and modify parameters of the amps and effects. Then you can save your virtual "voice" parameters as one of those 16 voices. You can also save effects packages to the positions on the effects selector knob. Spring reverb is really all I need to be happy. It can do that just fine too.

Since all of my Super Champ X2 voiced channel settings are built around a gain setting of 3, I usually just leave the gain control there-abouts and change voices or move the tone controls. Thant sort of makes the voice selector a pseudo channel selector. The amp reacts nicely to tone control adjustments. I mean that they do something and it is exactly what you want them to do, unlike some amps. It also is interesting to go up and down (talking like up to 5 down to 2) with the gain control. There is a ton of fun within these minor adjustments. The physical knobs (gain and tone controls) are what-you-see-is-what-they-are. They don't save as a value setting in the presets. This is only slightly frustrating part of the amp. I only wish there were 16 full presets where the tone controls and gain setting are saved too.

            Love it!
