I have used a Tech 21 Trademark 10 for many years as an analog recording amp with good results as it had an XLR jack in its back panel so easy to record. Still, I wanted the body and detail a real tube amp has for guitar and this Super Champ X2 really delivers on that. To use this amp as a "recording preamp" I found out (from Fender) that you need to have an 8 ohm load on the speaker out jack or risk blowing it up as is true for most tube amps. So I made one. I got an 8 ohm resistor from Parts Express, wired that to a 1/4" jack and done for very little cost.

Still, I find that while the range of recorded tones coming out of the Line Out jack is just great, the recorded tone does not have the bark and presence that running it through a great speaker does. If you can record the output of a great speaker, please do so. I do like having the 16 different amp emulation choices and really like some of the effects that I dont have like "Vibratone" and "Tremolo".

In all, a very musical and creative recording tool in my studio.

I had to return this amp. 'cause of the lack of an FX. Loop. I'm a jazz/fusion player so I liked the clean ch. and the distortion channel -BUT- not being able to use the FX. loop to connect to my volume pedal it become immediately a big issue. Having a volume pedal it's a major part of my sound, I've being using it for years, putting the pedal up front in the chain isn't the same thing, it becomes an expression pedal, for that I rather use the volume knob on my guitar. I should have thought this more in details. Also the voicing knob isn't gig friendly, imagine the situation, it's dark, you're playing....you're not gonna be there counting "How many notches clockwise is my fab. distortion ?" Sure you can take a note but, if you have been there you know that isn't the most practical thing to do. Too bad though, the amp sounds great, It wouldn't have cost much to Fender to add an F.X. loop. This amp is good for studio work or if you're used to an expression pedal instead of Master volume.

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 HD 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I am gonna' get ahead of myself by saying, Fender is kickin' some serious tail with both the recent Squire guitars, and this small tube /modeling amp. I thought I wanted a Super Sonic 22, but just could not see a cost justification for so much money on a limited use, small power amp. I purchased a Champion 40 solid state combo last year, and re-speakered it with a Jensen C12N. I was, and continue to be, impressed with how that amp has performed and how versatile it is, and the similarities between the Super Champ XD and the Champion 40 are very apparent, with the Super Champ providing an additional four amp voices for a total of 16 available on CH2. The effects, particularly the digital version of Fender's long spring Accutronix reverb are spot-on. The only thing "missing" in the Super Champ's sound and feature palate is a little bit of "sag" from the lack of tube rectification in the pre-amp section. I understand the single 12AX7 preamp valve in this amp is used as a phase splitter only. A compressor "model" can also be substituted for one of your less liked or used dial effects if you prefer or need that more often than something else. If you want the full potential from one of these little monsters, you have to "86" the Chinese Groove Tubes that come stock. My review, among more than two dozen others, about what you can expect with the Tung Sol 6V6's speaks very loudly. You will find yourself with the best sounding Deluxe Reverb you can imagine at a quarter of the price! Three or four of the modeled amp sounds I don't personally have a need for, but I was easily able to delete them and reorder the choices on the dial to align with my Champion 40 combo with a laptop and the FUSE software. I had a few extra packs of chrome corners, and added a half dozen to this cabinet , along with some upgraded rubber feet. These things must be "flying out the door," get one before Fender gets a complex.

I bought this for fun but after hooking it up with a 4x12 Marshall cab it became the gig amp too. The sounds are great clean and powerful. I rarely use the presets. It's simply the best amp with a tube preamp and tube amp section for the money. Great AC/DC sounds. If you work with it you can get anything you want out of this little Fender.

Comments about Fender Super-Champ X2 HD 15W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Very versatile amp with very good on-board effects and amp models. I've played rock, blues, and Christian music since the 70's and have used this amp with Strat's, Tele's, and Acoustic guitars--you can find an amp model for virtually any guitar/sound genre. I have many high quality external effects, but have found that the built-in effects are comparable in sound quality.

I already have a few fender tube amps of different wattages most of them use one 12" speakers, but this amp with those same 12" speakers sounds better. infact it so good i'm going to get another one as soon as I can.
