Comments about Fishman Limited Edition Mahogany Loudbox Mini PRO:

I have had the fortune to own a great number of high end amps in my 55 yrs. I bought my first mini ( then bought another) about two years ago and also own an Artist model. Guys, the mini is the perfect mixture of size meets high fidelity. One mini stays in the studio and the other one I bring with me to gigs and or practice. The only fault with the fishman amps are the bad outer brown exterior. It tears with the least bit of movement and placement. The studio amp has a few scratch marks by the handle and the amp on the go looks like wolverine's personal gear! At last, a wood (mahogany) exterior. Beautiful and built tough. (It's still staying in the studio.) I record with it and the headroom is great. The Artist model is really good but doesn't show enough of a difference in sound to justify the higher price. My other favorite amp is my Rivera Sedona 55 (Doyle D.edition) It Is a different animal--tubes sound and all-- but the comparison should tell you something. For close or near 1/10 the price of the Rivera, the mini is all that! I record with both and the mini offers its own great sound. Please spend a little extra money and buy the mahogany edition. It will become your legacy amp.!!!

    solid amp, a little expensive

Comments about Fishman Limited Edition Mahogany Loudbox Mini PRO:

I had been wanting to ditch my PA for my SOLO gigs that were in smaller rooms or bars that didn't really require the space-filling volume that a powered PA speaker set can provide. I normally only put one speaker up anyhow and kept one down for a monitor. I have to say, I'm definitely pleased with the clarity and definition you can get out of such a small box. 60 Watts is really plenty to do many types of small rooms. I LOVE the independent reverbs on both channels. It's very important that my vocals and guitar have separate settings as you may want more or less for either rather than having it be universally shared. I will say at high volumes, if the verb on each is up too much, it can sometimes cause quite a nasty blend. I think this also has to do with the bass. As soon as I turn up the bass for my Taylor 310ce, it likes to get a little bit growly on the bottom end. There is phase switch, which works great for this, but I much prefer the sound unphased. Otherwise, the controls are quite sensitive with center detent on each EQ knob. Once you get your settings straight, it's a dream to play. I really do love that it sounds much bigger than it is. It doesn't sound too "boxy", but I will say it seems to accept PIEZO pickups better than any other kind. You can afford to turn the bass up more, which fills out the sound. If there is any flaw I found 2: the bass up tends to distort or mash the sound of the vocal and guitar together, which means once you turn that down, the amp is not very "full" sounding. Also, the kickback design on this all-wood model is totally useless and it falls backwards EVERY....TIME. So much for kicking it up at the audience if need be. I may fashion my own kick stand for the back if need be, but I'll probably just end up putting the amp on a small table or chair. For the convenience of walking in to a gig with a guitar, this amp, a stand and hardly anything else, it makes quick gigs really easy. The sapele wood is super attractive on this.
