Wanted: a solid state upgrade to my old tube overdrive; a compact choice that was battery powered (and didn't eat them up). I am a fan of Fulltone pedals and found all the solutions I needed with the quality I expect. But even though I also expect great sound from Fulltone products, this really impressed me. I had awesome tone right out of the box with however the knobs were when it was packed. Couldn't get a bad tone out of it. It's function is just as advertised. I use mostly non-master volume amps. With my Fender 2x10 Blackface it can get British stack-like with the 2nd stage to add the high end bite (but no sizzle), and something else in the circuit seems to naturally fatten the low end. With the second stage off, my blackface sounded more 4X10 tweed deluxe-like, lotta rumble & fullness but still with good mid-range based attack. With a 1X12 boutique Fender-type design, it has a well rounded classic rock tone too. Played well with my solid state amp too. Can get squealy if the second stage is pushed too far in some amp settings. You might want that; I know I'll probably use it. And it sounded great with all the classic types of guitars in my collection. Minor adjustments were all that were needed to fine tune Strat vs Gibson use, for example. After getting the PlimSoul in the rig I have felt renewed enthusiasm for just sitting at home with the amp, playing on my own; I found it inspiring. For classic rock and blues applications it has the right range of sound. I like the dark purple color and the battery hatch on the back. It's also quiet: surprisingly little background hum for a distortion pedal, even with a 40 watt tube amp wound up most of the way. I am very pleased

I was impressed by the full chording and the touch sensitivity. The lead response is good but I had to boost the mids through an EQ to stand out when playing live. Also, the low, bottom this pedal has also needed EQ'ing out. By itself, I wouldn't recommend it except for rhythm players. Through a small combo, this might be good because the lack of low end an midrange prence in smaller combos would benifit from this pedal.

This is the best overdrive I have ever used. I use it to push my Vox AC4C1. It's high quality and you can tell from the sounds that come out of it. IT makes my amp come alive like its cranked.

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
This is a good solid versatile OD/Distortion .I like this pedal but was not as blown away as I thought I may be with a pedal in this price range . I have 5 other Fulltone Pedals and love them all I just expected a little more magic for the money on this one .That being said this pedal has some good tones , for me it excels with the humbuckers on my les paul and is best for lead tones not as good for rythms.Single coils are just ok with this pedal and again lead tones excel not so much for the rytym stuff , all in all it has its applications , built well and looks cool .

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
I own many many many distortion pedals, but I've now taken them all of my board. The Plimsoul is as close to perfection as i have experienced. It is warm, full, thick, yet has some bite and edge. It is not too much distortion but I can make it squeal anytime I want. Very touch responsive, cleans up with your volume knob, gives nice and nasty. , This with humbuckers and a Marshall stack is as close to the EVH brown sound as I have been so far.

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
This pedal sounds fantastic. I've used it with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Twin Reverb, Deluxe Reverb, Vox AC30c2, and it's sounded great with every one.
I love the second gain stage. It adds a nice throatiness and sounds like natural tube style distortion. If you play blues, you can roll stage 2 all the way back, and put stage one halfway up for a nice creamy sound. If you want a nice crunchy rock sound, turn up stage two. This is not a one trick pony. It's built like all fulltone pedals, best components, high quality jacks and switches, and true bypass in a heavy duty metal casing. It may be more pricey than the OCD, but it's worth the extra money for the versatility.

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
I bought my Plimsoul from Guitar Center around the same time I bought my other 2 Fulltones (the OCD and Fat Boost-3). Like the Fulltone OCD and Fat Boost 3, the Plimsoul is very fun to use and very transparent. It doesn't color one's tone too much (I mean this in a good way). The ability to choose between 'clipping' sounds ('clipping' is explained in the instructions for this pedal). When both 'clipping' settings are on full, interesting fuzz tones can be accessed! I tend to keep the "Stage 2" knob(hard 'clipping') all the way off as I prefer the creamy, "Woman Tone"esque sounds. A fun pedal to play with and experiment with!
Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
Like it a lot
I have had this for several months now and it won' be leaving my pedalbaord anytime soon. I have a Version 3 OCD which I liked a lot - the Plimsoul has more balls than the OCD, more range and more tonal combinations - I run with 18v and it rocks.
I have a Fender Twin and a Mark V, and it is well suited for both, and it works well with other pedals.
Super versatile, from mild overdrive to full tilt ACDC and to SRV and everything in between. Great harmonics and built like a tank. Fulltone has some great pedals and a few that are so-so, the Plimsoul is one of their best pedals. Highly recommended.
Fulltone Quality has always been good in my experience
Some say its pricey - NOT... It's not as expensive as many competing pedals, and it offers a wide range of tone, so I think it's a good bang for the buck
Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
This pedal replaces my original LPB-1 and my 1980s RAT. It definitely plays differently with different guitars (but that's a good thing; it tweaks to accomodate my LP goldtop through a 1 channel tweed amp, and even single-coils through a hi-gain 3 channel 50w boutique head). I'm getting a ZVex Distortron to put in front of it and rain destruction down on my foes. Did I mention it's quiet when switching and comes with a cool sticker?
Level, 'Sustain', Hi-cut; same three knobs as you're used to (by those or any other names). The coolest thing about this unit is the little 4th dial: it goes from OD/fuzz to distort-o-tone as you turn clockwise. Muff-tone on the left, blend in the middle, Rat-tone(s) on the right. There are no tone-shaping knobs other than the treble roll-off (hi-cut), but since this unit works best saturating a tube amp's clean channel, your bass/mid/hi/presence amp controls get all the shape you need.
Durable; pedalboard-worthy unit.
It ain't cheap, but it does the job of two different pedals at once.
Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
The bottum is too full or low, similar to the problem with the OCD in the LP mode.
There isn't any midrange boost to make the notes stand out for lead (kinda flat). It might be ok for a subdued rythum I guess.
They did try to fix the high end problem that the OCD has but they way over did it, it's too smooth kinda fizzy and dull even with the tone cranked up.
After a few days of giving it a chance to see what style of my music it would work for, I couldn't find one so I returned it.
I experimented and modified my OCD by testing caps and 100 ohm resistor in series on the tone pot to roll off the highs. I liked what It did so much that I bought a second OCD. I run both on 9V in the HP mode. I run one at a medium drive with a 47p and 100ohm. The other OCD is for clean boost at zerro drive with 22p and 100ohm. Otherwise I would have got rid of the OCD as well. Keep On Rockin In The Free World!!!
I liked having the second stage distortion knob. It realy only sounded good with at touch of distortion. Setting it high was edgy at slightly to high of a frequency for what I might want.
I liked the fact it has True Bypass and 1 Meg input.
It has a thin aluminum facplate that was not on very square and was a little out of flat so it made it look cheep. But the purple box was nice too bad it is a little wider than the OCD.
A little pricy but if I would have liked it enough to keep it the price would have been ok.
