OVERVIEW

Bluesy soft-clip and nasty hard-clip tube-style distortion, all in one effect pedal for a great price.

For many, many years you've basically had 2 choices for your overdrive and distortion pedals. You could either get "Soft-clipped" Bluesy, slightly compressed-type overdrive pedals, or you could get "Hard-Clipped" type distortion pedals.

Now, the Fulltone PlimSoul guitar effects pedal offers both distortion and overdrive for a great price.

The Fulltone PlimSoul guitar pedal has those softer, bluesey, compressed capabilities but also has a second stage that you can roll in with the turn of a little dial to add that firmer, crunchier, British output tube-style Distortion. What's more is you not only hear and feel it-you can see the Fulltone pedal reacting to your every mood via a fiery LED that glows brighter and dimmer depending on how distorted it is and how hard you're hitting it.

It's touch sensitive, cleans up with the guitar's volume control, sounds superb with either humbuckers or single coils. And with a 500kOhm input impedance and ideal super low 10K output impedance, the Fulltone PlimSoul plays nice with other effects pedals. It goes from very clean to very dirty, giving your tone a vast range of tonal control to customize to your liking.

The Fulltone overdrive/distortion pedal can blend both soft clip/hard clip distortion types, or isolate one or the other. The sound possibilities are truly endless.

This Fulltone guitar pedal offers extremely good sustain/feedback qualities, just the right amount of mids and bottom, great touch sensitivity, dynamics, and all those in-between shades available created using your guitar's volume control.

FEATURES
  • Level control
  • Sustain control
  • Hi-cut control
  • Stage 23 dial
  • Footswitch
  • LEDs for distortion and power

All this amazing control for a price that's too good to pass up. Order now!

Wanted: a solid state upgrade to my old tube overdrive; a compact choice that was battery powered (and didn't eat them up). I am a fan of Fulltone pedals and found all the solutions I needed with the quality I expect. But even though I also expect great sound from Fulltone products, this really impressed me. I had awesome tone right out of the box with however the knobs were when it was packed. Couldn't get a bad tone out of it. It's function is just as advertised. I use mostly non-master volume amps. With my Fender 2x10 Blackface it can get British stack-like with the 2nd stage to add the high end bite (but no sizzle), and something else in the circuit seems to naturally fatten the low end. With the second stage off, my blackface sounded more 4X10 tweed deluxe-like, lotta rumble & fullness but still with good mid-range based attack. With a 1X12 boutique Fender-type design, it has a well rounded classic rock tone too. Played well with my solid state amp too. Can get squealy if the second stage is pushed too far in some amp settings. You might want that; I know I'll probably use it. And it sounded great with all the classic types of guitars in my collection. Minor adjustments were all that were needed to fine tune Strat vs Gibson use, for example. After getting the PlimSoul in the rig I have felt renewed enthusiasm for just sitting at home with the amp, playing on my own; I found it inspiring. For classic rock and blues applications it has the right range of sound. I like the dark purple color and the battery hatch on the back. It's also quiet: surprisingly little background hum for a distortion pedal, even with a 40 watt tube amp wound up most of the way. I am very pleased

I was impressed by the full chording and the touch sensitivity. The lead response is good but I had to boost the mids through an EQ to stand out when playing live. Also, the low, bottom this pedal has also needed EQ'ing out. By itself, I wouldn't recommend it except for rhythm players. Through a small combo, this might be good because the lack of low end an midrange prence in smaller combos would benifit from this pedal.

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal replaces my original LPB-1 and my 1980s RAT. It definitely plays differently with different guitars (but that's a good thing; it tweaks to accomodate my LP goldtop through a 1 channel tweed amp, and even single-coils through a hi-gain 3 channel 50w boutique head). I'm getting a ZVex Distortron to put in front of it and rain destruction down on my foes. Did I mention it's quiet when switching and comes with a cool sticker?
Level, 'Sustain', Hi-cut; same three knobs as you're used to (by those or any other names). The coolest thing about this unit is the little 4th dial: it goes from OD/fuzz to distort-o-tone as you turn clockwise. Muff-tone on the left, blend in the middle, Rat-tone(s) on the right. There are no tone-shaping knobs other than the treble roll-off (hi-cut), but since this unit works best saturating a tube amp's clean channel, your bass/mid/hi/presence amp controls get all the shape you need.
Durable; pedalboard-worthy unit.
It ain't cheap, but it does the job of two different pedals at once.

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal sounds fantastic. I've used it with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, Twin Reverb, Deluxe Reverb, Vox AC30c2, and it's sounded great with every one.
I love the second gain stage. It adds a nice throatiness and sounds like natural tube style distortion. If you play blues, you can roll stage 2 all the way back, and put stage one halfway up for a nice creamy sound. If you want a nice crunchy rock sound, turn up stage two. This is not a one trick pony. It's built like all fulltone pedals, best components, high quality jacks and switches, and true bypass in a heavy duty metal casing. It may be more pricey than the OCD, but it's worth the extra money for the versatility.

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is the first Fulltone pedal that I have ever owned. I must say that I am extremely happy with it. The tones you can get out of this pedal go anywhere from a dirty clean to hard rock crunch. I would recommend this overdrive pedal over any overdrive pedal I have seen on the market or used. It is built sturdy and has great tonal qualities. I am currently playing it through an AC 15 with a Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 SE.

      Tone Comparison PlimSoul vs OCD.

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

The bottum is too full or low, similar to the problem with the OCD in the LP mode.
There isn't any midrange boost to make the notes stand out for lead (kinda flat). It might be ok for a subdued rythum I guess.
They did try to fix the high end problem that the OCD has but they way over did it, it's too smooth kinda fizzy and dull even with the tone cranked up.

After a few days of giving it a chance to see what style of my music it would work for, I couldn't find one so I returned it.

I experimented and modified my OCD by testing caps and 100 ohm resistor in series on the tone pot to roll off the highs. I liked what It did so much that I bought a second OCD. I run both on 9V in the HP mode. I run one at a medium drive with a 47p and 100ohm. The other OCD is for clean boost at zerro drive with 22p and 100ohm. Otherwise I would have got rid of the OCD as well. Keep On Rockin In The Free World!!!
I liked having the second stage distortion knob. It realy only sounded good with at touch of distortion. Setting it high was edgy at slightly to high of a frequency for what I might want.
I liked the fact it has True Bypass and 1 Meg input.
It has a thin aluminum facplate that was not on very square and was a little out of flat so it made it look cheep. But the purple box was nice too bad it is a little wider than the OCD.
A little pricy but if I would have liked it enough to keep it the price would have been ok.

This is a good solid versatile OD/Distortion .I like this pedal but was not as blown away as I thought I may be with a pedal in this price range . I have 5 other Fulltone Pedals and love them all I just expected a little more magic for the money on this one .That being said this pedal has some good tones , for me it excels with the humbuckers on my les paul and is best for lead tones not as good for rythms.Single coils are just ok with this pedal and again lead tones excel not so much for the rytym stuff , all in all it has its applications , built well and looks cool .

I own many many many distortion pedals, but I've now taken them all of my board. The Plimsoul is as close to perfection as i have experienced. It is warm, full, thick, yet has some bite and edge. It is not too much distortion but I can make it squeal anytime I want. Very touch responsive, cleans up with your volume knob, gives nice and nasty. , This with humbuckers and a Marshall stack is as close to the EVH brown sound as I have been so far.

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

            Like it a lot
I have had this for several months now and it won' be leaving my pedalbaord anytime soon. I have a Version 3 OCD which I liked a lot - the Plimsoul has more balls than the OCD, more range and more tonal combinations - I run with 18v and it rocks.

I have a Fender Twin and a Mark V, and it is well suited for both, and it works well with other pedals.

Super versatile, from mild overdrive to full tilt ACDC and to SRV and everything in between. Great harmonics and built like a tank. Fulltone has some great pedals and a few that are so-so, the Plimsoul is one of their best pedals. Highly recommended.
Fulltone Quality has always been good in my experience
Some say its pricey - NOT... It's not as expensive as many competing pedals, and it offers a wide range of tone, so I think it's a good bang for the buck

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is the only distortion/higher gain overdrive that has stayed on my board for long at all. Every other distortion pedal is overcompressed and synthetic sounding to my ears. I have tried the DS1, analog man DS1, two TC Electronic distortions and a few more. The plimsoul has a very organic sound, simple controls, small profile, and a very wide range of drive tones. You can easily go from cleanish colored boost to Tube screamer territory, all the way to early 70s era metal tones. If you plug it into a dirty tube amp (I have a blues deluxe) you can easily hit metal territory, even modern metal. I've had this for just a little while and I'm already considering selling a boost and a drive pedal because this pedal does their jobs only better. The pedal is not transparent though, but this is a good thing for sure. It enhances your tone in a rather subtle, yet noticeable way. The first drive channel has a rather noticeable mid hump, but not as extreme as any ts variant, it has a right and thumping bottom end and plenty of jangly highs. The second stage is a bit rounded with less mids and a fat bottom end and mellower highs. The two stages are similar but also opposites in a way, so they compliment each other remarkably well. You can tell that a lot of work went into finding the perfect time for both stages because the sound of them mixed is as close to perfection as I've ever found in a higher gain pedal. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a moderate to higher gain overdrive. It isn't capable of metal on its own but if you stack it or feed it into a dirty amp it's possible. But, if you're after a perfect classic rock, blues, or any genre where a cranked Marshall would do you good then you will love this pedal. It does low and high gain remarkably well, you couldn't dial a sour tone in if you tried. You aren't going to find a pedal this versatile that sounds this good anywhere else for under 200$. Don't even think about it anymore, but one, you won't regret it!

Don't go strictly by my review unless you're using a Marshall Bluesbreaker. This pedal may sound very good on your Amp. I've read great reviews, and the sound Demos by some guys on Youtube were excellent. I could not get one single good sound using this on my Bluesbreaker. The Marshall Guvnor far surpasses this pedal tonewise. The Plimsoul on my Marshall sounded like a muddy mess.

I have a TS808 and a distortion plus and this one goes all the way from gentle to hairy and thick lush distortion.
In a single coil guitar you can get that semi driven sound (clean with a bit of filth) more easily that with a les paul.

Before buying this, I tried the GT-500 (complete garbage - the overdrive side is muddy uselessness) and the OCD (not worth the hype for me - an MXR Distortion III does the same thing, but is smoother and much cheaper). This pedal is a whole different kind of overdrive, and it is awesome. Play every overdrive in a guitar store - this one will best them all. This will give you great tones in all levels of gain, and the tone control is perfect. It has great note clarity, even with high gain. The "stage 2" knob is a subtle control, but it adds so much. This pedal is pricey, but oh-so worth it. I'm using this with Vox amps, and they are a great pair.

                    Big Tone

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have had this pedal for a few months now. Very nice! It plays well with other pedals. There is more "AMP" distortion than you will need with this pedal. It really does react like an amp.I will say it took me some time to dial in my tone, but that in large part due to it's flexibility. You can get mild OD to wicked distortion. Lots of Harmonics. I run a LP stock into a Plexi set clean-ish.It is not a transparent pedal. It does have a mid hump, but that's what i was looking for. The 808's sound boxy to me, this sounds big and bad to my ears with appropriate low end. For music styles, i play mostly covers, 80-current and this thing won't leave my board for a while.

I purchased this pedal today, by recommendation of the guys at the local shop, and I was originally on the fence about it due to the price. However. This is the greatest drive pedal to ever hit the planet. This pedal has it all. It can give you anything you could possibly want, from warm, laid back summer blues to bat-out-of-hell screams that I once thought could only be achieved by burning tubes on the verge of blowing. The controls are unique; the rugged pedal hosts a Level, High Cut, Sustain, and a small stage knob. These sturdy, easy to tweak controls are incredibly sensitive, responding to every nuance in your sound. I have never heard a pedal effect so perfect in my life. I can't say anymore. Just trust me and buy one.

Comments about Fulltone PlimSoul Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've been a big fan of Klon / Klon-Type overdrives for many years, but my repertoire has expanded recently (at 60 years of age!) I've desired to have a pedal that goes into distortion more. I've personally never been a fan of tubescreamer style pedals, favoring transparent/ mid-scooped sounds for my style / type of music. The advent of no "bee ess" pedal reviews on Youtube (That Pedal Show, and the like) have been a boon to me in searching for additions for my sound shaping needs. So, to cut to the chase, after careful (and fun) research, I decided on a "2-in-1" pedal. It came down to the Analogman King of Tone and the Plimsoul. The wait / cost for the King of Tone pedal aside, I really felt the Plimsoul would fill my needs better, as it seemed the Plimsoul would go deeper into "distortionland" than the K.O.T. So, I ordered the Plimsoul and have been thoroughly enjoying it! Keeping in mind tone is SO subjective and that these are my opinions; It works equally well with single coils as well as humbucker equipped guitars (in my case American Standard Strat and Gibson Les Paul w/ 490 / 498s). My primary amp is a PTP Fender 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb (Allessandro modded) and Fender Mustand III v2. (YES, the Plim works VERY WELL with the Mustang on the Fender Deluxe and Bassman settings, IMO). The Plimsoul easily does a great overdrive, Marshall Plexi style and Dumble style overdrive. I should probably note I play and write Classic Rock, Blues and venture into Pink Floyd and Led Zep territory. Although this pedal is not as transparent as my Archer, it does have the desired (for me) slightly scooped mids and enough transparency to keep me happy. "Rich, Full and Convincing" are three descriptors I'd use for the Plimsoul. It will EASILY take you into harmonic feedback and can make my 1x12" amps sound huge- even with my Strat. I am still experimenting with cascading the Archer into the Plim so will not comment right now- although prospects seem VERY GOOD! Absolutely recommend

The Plimsoul is probably the best Overdrive distortion pedal I've ever owned. With the sustain control and Stage 2 distortion you can get a variety of tones in low and high volumes. From smooth-sounding distortion to hard Rock or metal sound. It's very responsive to the smallest adjustment. I just love the sound.

My bottom line is Tone and Function. I bought it to use as a grab and go pedal to use on Jam nights and sit ins. Well , it far exceeded my expectations. My main OD pedal for over 14 years has been a big bulky Dual tube pre-amp pedal that looks like a tool box. The plim soul matched it on big thick overdrive and bested it in a hudge way in picking dynamics and is much quieter as well. It is the most Tubey sounding Non tube pedal I have ver played through, It is pricey but worth it. It is now my main OD pedal.
