Playing bluegrass bass through the 110, I use the line out to go through the PA for big gigs, or the amp standalone for small ones. This little amp has clean sound, is easy to carry, and gigs with me 20-30 times a year. For upright bass, I get enough acoustic sound to blend well with guitars, mandos, banjos - when playing P-Bass, the PA gives me enough low end for outdoor venues. I really appreciate the size factor - my 80lb "other brand" 15" unit stays at home these days.

I purchased my Backline 110 yesterday, and I'm extremely impressed with the highs and mids of this little baby. I hook it up as a firstline to my Fender Bassman 100. The results are fantastic. It can do everything. However, from what I have seen so far, It has not got enough low end. I do like the features. The contour is great and the overdrive is awesome, but once again, hook it up to a 15" combo for full sound.

Its a GK

By JJG

from worcester area

I've had this Amp for about 3 years now. I have had not one problem with it. I have a peavey active bass and use this amp in my basement. my son plays the drums very loud and i have to turn it up just to the point of distortion to hear my self ok. I set the gain to just below 50% and the volume to 75%. this gives me the point of just under distortion. the amp puts out 70 watts but the speaker is rated for 150watts. so when you get the distortion its the amp head not the speaker. I beleive a lower powered speaker with higher spl would give this amp much more sound out put. the cost is a little steep, but your buying a GK. Tone is very nice and the contour button sounds great. the distortion chanel is fun to use but its not my style. over all if your looking for a little more than a practice amp, this is for you. If your looking for something to gig with, get something bigger.

Great on acoustic gigs

Ask me a question

I used this little puppy in an acoustic trio, with a Steinway grand and a full set of drums, and it sounded great. Even though I was using an older Aria P-Bass style axe, it sounded almost like a standup bass through this amp. Excellent, nice and light.

Niiiiiiiiiice!

I got this amp 2 Chirstmas's ago. This amp is excellent. You may be thinking "only 70 watts? you'll never be able to hear it over drums" thats a lie. This little amp can get really loud. Deffinitly enough to be heard over drums. This amp also features distorion which sounds excellent. It also features a nice Line Out in the back to plug it into a PA to give it that extra boost if you ever need it. The only problem i've had with this amp is the input nut broke off. nothing real bad. the cable still goes in and plays. it never cuts out either. A very great, little, loud amp. I'd reccomend it to anyone.

Amazing combo amp!

By G-K fan

This amp really is amazing! I'm now a G-K user for life. One of the cool features is the distortion channel where you can have as much or as little overdrive you want/need. The 3-Band EQ is very good, and even the smallest twist of the knobs is audible to your ears, which is something I never encountered on any other amp. The contour button is really cool as it sweeps out the Mids and boosts the Bass and Treble. And with 70 watts of power through a 10 inch speaker it sounds incredible. Another thing is that I play a Peavey Millennium 5-String Bass and even though the speaker is a 10 inch, it never gets muddy or distorts on the B string. So if you are thinking about buying this amp, just do it! You'll be glad you did.

Awesome

I've had this amp for a little over half a year now, gotta say it's held through all the good times and the bad. Had a fuse blow out once, but that was because I put it into a faulty outlet(blew my guitar amps fuse too). Anyway, this things perfect for practice by yourself or practicing with a couple of guitar buddies, but definitely not if you have a drummer. Overall a good amp.

Killer Dwarf!

By RB46

from South Bend, Indiana

Recently got by backline 110, and used it the day I got it for a concert. We play Irish music, and I'm the only one with an amp. Still, the tone and power were perfect; got compliment from the rest of the band about it. I have other GK amp heads, but this one will probably be my main amp. Only fault is no balanced direct out, but I use a D.I. box to solve that. Kudos to GK!!!

Ask me a question

Just came in today and tested it with a Eastwood Classic and with a Defil Orlik ( hollowbody Polisch Ostalgia).Surprisingly loud and deep , noiseless ( really what I was looking for for studio work , compared to my aircooled Randall that is )Perfect for my upright bass and loud enough for practice ( we don't play really loud , drummer with brushes and etc...) Thinking about buying a extension cab 2x10 or & x 15 inch and selling my Randall .

Nice little bass amp

By pjwalsh

from Amherst, MA

Backline 110 with an active Carvin LB 70. I usually use the 10 db pad, mid-contour voicing feature with eq set flat and dial up the sound with the LB70 preamp. Clean channel is nice and I actually like the overdrive circuit, though it sounds kinda odd at higher gains, adds good color at lower gains. This is a great practice amp - very nice tone at 50%75% volume. I don't think this amp has enough power for any performance situation involving drums or other electric instruments. When playing in a group setting I often need to ask others to adjust their level down - probably good for both our sound and our ears but it makes guitarists grumble.Overall a nice affordable practice amplifier with great tone, though not enough power for a gig without a PA to help out with volume.

A Great Amp for Performing on Stage and practicing

By BigbasserNYNY

from New York, NY

I have been playing guitar for 2 years and I decided to switch two bass, in my appartment I do not have much space so I was looking for an amp that would be small but good for performing. So I chose the backline 110. It has 70 watts and tilts back. It has a nice sound and has good features such as overdrive. This is a great starting amp!!!

Gallien-Krueger Backline 110

By hpfU3LCNr

from Alexandria, Virginia

I've had it for about a year now to replace an old 150 watt Peavey. As expected the sound quality was much better and the bass was a lot deeper. I use an old '75 Gibson Grabber with a sliding pickup that didn't seem to have much difference in the sound on my old amp, but is crystal clear on the GK. The overdrive is what really got me. Before I bought it, I was never really into effects, but now I can get enough distortion. Overall this a great practice amp. Other owners of this amp that I know also love it and have even used it for small gigs. I only wish it came bundled with a footswitch so I wouldn't have to pay the extra $(and wait the extra 8 months for it too comes in stock).

Condition 4 PRIZE

I hesitated about buying a "non returnable" Condition 4 item. Watched it for weeks. Then, it was still there and I had to take a chance. I've wanted a Backline 110 for a while. It came in a used GK box. The 110 looked like it had never been used. It had a slight rattle to it that took very little to fix. The sound is FANTASTIC. I play a 5 string bass most times and this little amp can handle it with pride. I've also got a GK Backline 112. There is little difference between the sound quality and power. THANKS for a great deal.

Best For Beginners

By dzntz1

I just began playing bass. I have been comparing amps at the stores, and this one is the best for the price and for the quality and features. It sounds better than the others in the same categories. Give it a try, remember that you can always return it in 30 days or less!

This amp Rocks

By Tom Stepanski Jr.

I fried my old practice amp and was looking for another. I use a 4-12 cab powered by a GK 1001RB-II for stage so I decided to stick with GK and try this little amp. I was blown away by the bottom end and response from such a little box. I took it to the studio and the guys laughed until I fired it up. They were in awe of the amount of real bass from that little box. The line out worked great for recording. I use it on small gigs. If you looking for a small practice amp that can double as a stage amp for small gigs I would recommend getting this amp and giving it a try. I play a Fender Precision American Deluxe V, Fender Jazz and an Acoustic Michael Kelly 5-string. This amp does them all justice especially that acoustic bass.

great compact amp

By Ibanez23

See all my reviews

This little amp packs a punch for its size. I only play bass for my own recordings and to jam, so this amp is perfect. The overdrive channel is surprisingly versatile, providing everything from a little grunge on the top end to an all out fuzz. Guitar also sounds great through the amp, with the overdrive channel providing a unique sound. The rock-back cab is handy, and it's very light.

Nice Practice Amp!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I just got one of these a week ago to use for individual practice, and it sounds great. I have been using G-K amps for ten or twelve years on stage, and the Backline 110 has the same sound in a smaller package. It is solidly built, with no rattles. It even has a distortion channel, which is fun to mess around with. This amp probably doesn't have enough power to accompany a drummer, but it sure makes a great practice amp. I had to wait a couple of weeks while the amp was on backorder, but it was worth the wait.

Nice Practice Amp

By hoshbrown41

from Kansas

This was the first bass amp I bought and I have to say it is a great place to start from. I was playing in a garage band at the time and and this little thing could easily hold its own. The only thing I have against it is that after a few years the speaker blew out. But that could easily be replaced. This is NOT a gigging amp, but a powerful little sucker for practicing and is real easy to move around.
