Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB Fusion 800W Hybrid Bass Amp Head:

Do not be fooled by the appearance of this bass amp. This is the real deal. I needed an amp that could keep up with a guitarist who uses two EVH 5150 amps rigged in stereo with Marshall cabs. I am able to do so on about 6 volume with plenty of headroom to spare. I get the tone I want, and I have played them all, as Flea says. I play an active bass and cannot get the input to clip even without the pad engaged. The EQ is setup very well, like a British mixing desk. The upper and lower are a shelving type while both mids are a peaking type. The frequencies and cut boost ranges are well thought out, and right where I need them to be. Warm, fat, punchy sound without having to lug around an SVT. The only thing I would like for it to have is an onboard compressor, even a simple one. It does have a limiter to prevent damage. I use a DBX compressor through the loop and it fattens it up perfectly for heavy rock. Well done GK, especially on the EQ section!

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB Fusion 800W Hybrid Bass Amp Head:

The tone of this little amp is surprising. I compared it directly with a MB500 head. While switching back and forth, I found myself jamming and creating more parts on the fusion, it's tone was just a lot of fun.

Rather than telling you about all the good things everyone has already said, I'll tell you about the reason I sent this amp back. The fan noise. After about 30 minutes they kick on and don't turn off. At full band volumes you wouldn't hear it but every time you stop playing it will be the loudest thing in the room. I thought maybe I had a defective unit but GK tech support said it was normal. The unit also had a defective contour knob that would only work very 6 or 7 pushes.

I loved the tone so much that I ordered the fusion 550 instead, as it doesn't use fans for cooling. Hopefully it sounds just as good, if not better. I didn't order the 550 from MF because they wouldn't transfer a 20% off discount that I had used on the fusion 800.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB Fusion 800W Hybrid Bass Amp Head:

I originally purchased the MB Fusion 800 as a backup amp because of it's small size and power rating. After playing through it I was blown away by the tone and power output from something that only weighs just over 5 lbs. I'm running it to a 4x10 4ohm Bergantino cabinet. Pretty much run everything flat with just a slight bump in the low mids. Recently I played a large outside venue and had no problems at high volume levels. It was clean/clear and cut through the mix with ease. Wasn't even close to clipping. Prior to buying the Fusion 800 I tried two other popular micro amps and IMHO the GK blew them both away. There secret could be the 3 12AX7 preamp tubes? The illuminated knobs and red muted switch is also a great feature. I really can't find any negatives about this gem of an amp only that it doesn't have a 1/4" speaker output jack. Needless to say this is now my main amp.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB Fusion 800W Hybrid Bass Amp Head:

I just had to give other musicians my take on this product. I'm not a compensated endorsee, I've never given a product endorsement before and my comments are probably too long but I hope this helps some of you with your decision on buying a bass amp.

I bought this amp a few months ago. After hundreds of gigs (big and small) playing through an Ampeg Pro 4 (which is a great amp in its own right), I got tired of lugging the weight. I saw this little tiny amp after hours of surfing and decided to try it out.

HANDS DOWN the best bass amp I have ever owned!!

I took it out of the box and it looked like something you would buy a child from Toys R Us. That is the only con to this amp. **I ONLY say that because bassists might see this amp and pass it by because it's so small and "child like". Don't be fooled!!!!

I took it to a gig and plugged into my full rig (of course). I play a Peavey Cirrus 4 string with custom gauge GHS Boomer strings and my cabs are a custom Mesa Boogie 6X10 sitting on top and an old American made Ampeg Classic 4X10 for the bottom. This amp is balanced, punchy, extremely powerful and very easy to use. It gave my cabs every bit of power they could handle, with room to spare.

This amp gave my bass a tonal depth and quality which I hadn't really heard before. The balance this amp provided gave each string almost perfect clarity. I was absolutely blown away. I currently play my small to medium gigs using this amp with a single Avatar 12 cab for a great sound and unbeatable weight. My other cabs have been relegated to large or outdoor venues with this amp.

I've only had it on a few gigs, (plus a few demos, letting a couple of my good friends around town play through it on their gigs; not a single negative comment), so I can't speak to this amps durability or GK's customer service. I hope I never have to.

Lastly and this is not a negative for me but this amp is so small that it doesn't fit in a rack even with ears. You have to contact GK and get their custom ears to rack-mount this amp. I carry the amp, the Neutrik cable and the power cable in a padded laptop case and it works great.

I know I didn't give any technical details in my comments and only a few superlatives--if you need technical, You Tube has some vids on this amp--but this is a GREAT amp that gives my bass a beautiful sound and weighs about as much as a six-pack of beer. The days of me lugging 60-110lb amps thinking that was the only way to get power and tone are over gang. Play well and stay safe all...
          k.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger MB Fusion 800W Hybrid Bass Amp Head:

This amp sounds great and provides plenty of volume with just the right set of features... and it's only 5 pounds! It would be 5 stars but for one issue: switching to gain B with the footswitch causes a noticeable dropout. I haven't recorded with it yet, but that's going to be problematic when I do. I've had to anticipate the spot where I'm going to switch to the boost and hit the switch slightly ahead of the downbeat.

But otherwise, it's a fantastic amp at a reasonable price.
