Combining the proven tone shaping of GK’s legendary bass amplifiers with state of the art technology to deliver an impressive feature set, the PLEX is the next generation of bass preamp.
In addition to the four-band Active/Variable Q equalizer that has been a favorite of professional bass players for over 40 years, the PLEX incorporates the tools the modern bass player has come to rely on for the stage and studio, all in a pedal board friendly package. Foot switchable Compressor, Chromatic Tuner and Boost, Aux input, Phones Output, XLR output with pre/post and ground lift, FX loop and USB output make the PLEX the solution for any playing situation.
Expanded Voicing Options
Every knob of the PLEX features push activated functions that allow the user to tailor every nuance of their sound beyond the range of traditional tone controls. As each knob is pressed, the indicator is lit blue to signify that an option is engaged and the readout displays the current option level that is active. Need more low end thump? Push the bass/ bump knob to engage multiple levels of bass enhancement. Scooping out some mids for the ultimate slap tone is as easy pressing the low-mid/contour knob until you find just the right notch. Get rid of excessive pick noise and click by pressing the hi-mid/ hi-cut knob. Add just the right amount of “air” to a dark instrument or speaker via the presence function accessed by pressing the treble/presence knob.
No amp? No worries
Obviously, the pedal board friendly format, distortion, compressor and chromatic tuner with large LED display make PLEX an “all in one” extension of your existing live amp rig. But let’s face it, not every session or live performance has the need or capacity to allow for your favorite GK rig running at gig volume. The convenience of tracking direct and the use of in-ear monitors on stage has many players leaving their amps at home. With its world class preamp and virtually unlimited tone shaping, wide range of analog and digital input/output options, PLEX allows you to have your GK sound even when an amp is not in the cards.

Comments about Gallien-Krueger Plex Preamp Pedal:
I looked at just about all the bass preamps on the market. They're mainly overdrive stomp boxes with a DI. They all have some form of EQ, though some are weak in this area while others are much better. The Plex brings everything together and then some.
I must admit, what really attracted me to the Plex was the tuner. I wanted a good preamp and there are plenty to choose from. But I also wanted a pedal tuner. I also wanted a compressor. All of the popular preamps had neither of these, which meant buying two more pedals and once you get past two pedals, you might as well get a pedal board, which means looking at centralizing your power, yada, yada, yada. It's not long before you've exceeded the cost of the Plex. When I saw the Plex, it was like someone was reading my mind.
The overdrive can be subtle or it can be growling. It may not go as far as some of the other products on the market, but for me, it's enough. If you want hard core overdrive, the Plex isn't for you.
The compressor is great. Very versatile using only two knobs, but giving you four features. Add a little or add a lot.
The tuner makes this product, in my opinion. It's a small thing, I know, but sometimes it's the little things that separate one product from the rest. It works well. It indicates a little sharp when you pluck the string, but it quickly settles down and gives you an accurate reading. As with all pedal tuners, output is muted when the tuner is active.
The tonal options, beyond the EQ, overdrive and compressor, are just icing on the cake. You've got 4 GK amp sims, i.e. voicings, to choose from to give you that GK sound. There's 2 levels of bass boost. 3 levels of mid-cutting contour. 2 levels of hi-cut to quiet string noise. Even a "presence", that adds a little boost to the 1khz range.
Add to all that, an aux in and a headphone jack and you have the perfect practice set up. And lastly, a USB port to connect straight to you PC for recording. It also doubles as a software update port
