This is my first Genz Benz Head. I bought it in April of 2008. I also purchased a Genz Benz LS 112 to play it through...unbelievable. I've played numerous gigs with that rig, usually between 200 to 500 people, and never had a problem. I recently built a 1x15 sub to go underneath the LS 112 and increase the load to 4 ohm. My last gig (two days before this posting) was an open air event (in 34 degree weather) in front of seven thousand people. The stage was 20 feet by 60 feet and, of course there was pro FOH support. I always insist that the sound person take the signal from the DI post gain because of the fantastic, and very dynamic, sound of this amp. You really cannot appreciate this amp on stage until you open it up. Driving the pre hard (it has a 12AX7 tube pre), opening up the post gain and setting the output to 3/4 is ridiculus. Everything you do, every subtle thumb mute, every slap, every tap, evey pull up on the finger/fret board gives back exactly what you put into it. Simply put...this is the most powerfull, articulate head you can buy for less than seven hundred dollars. Oh, did I mention it only weighs 3.75 lbs.? If it matters (I don't think it does since just about any bass will benefit from this monster) I play a Lakland 55-02. I also play my upright through this rig using a Bass Max and a KRK preamp...the sound is thick, fat and creamy with clean finger nuance.

I bought the GB STL6 brand new, for use in quieter electric bass gigs. It was great! The real surprise was when I used it for upright (bass -> Fishman Full Circle PU -> LR Baggs Gigpro preamp -> GBSTL6 -> Bergantino HT112)! It sounds markedly better than amps that specialize in acoustic insturments (Acoustic Image, Schertler Unico).

Now to the downside: After having it for 2.5 months, the tube preamp got really noisy. Had the tube replaced under warranty, but no help. It turned out that there was loose Molex connector. Yes, it got fixed, but you know that this is the kind of thing that can happen at a gig. So, carry a spare!

Also, GB's warranty and service is done by Fender, so gone are the days that you could talk to Mr. Genzler.

Great Rig

By Scott Paulson

from Vermont

So far I'm very happy with it. The fact that it's less than 4 lbs is huge and people can't believe all that sound is coming out of such a small amp!
I like having the mute and tuner out, DI out switches also very helpful. I don't usually need the shaping buttons but have used them when switching to upright to pronounce the upper mids more.
So far so good. I've had it for a couple of months and it seems solid.
Buying anything over this range is a stretch for me so I'm hoping it will be reliable. It's seems very good in the bang for the buck department. I like the sound. I'm running it with a David Eden 2x10 XST. Being that it's only pushing 350W with the one cab I have to crank it pretty high when the stage volume gets up there. I'd like to get a 1x15 8 ohm cab to run with the 2x10 so I can get the full 600W out of the cab, but most of the time I don't need that much volume as I'm running through the mains anyway. Trying to save my ears.

Hearing is believing

By JakoCLE

from Cleveland, OH

This is my first lightweight Class D bass amp. Years ago I lugged around a 250 W Class A behemoth (that hurt my back even in my early 20's), and this one is 600W and weighs next to nothing. The tone is unbelievable as is the power. It's shaking my house at low volumes, so I can't wait to open it up next Friday at an outdoor gig. This will have more than enough headroom for my stage volume, and I have TWO guitarists in the band and a loud drummer. I haven't moved any of the EQ knobs from their flat position and can't see doing so because the sound is perfect- I merely used the tone knob on my bass to muddy or brighten up my sound. The tube preamp/gain has likable sounds all the way through the knob. Adds a nice clean growl (if "clean" makes any sense here). The amp is QUIET. Playing it through my new Avatar B410 Neo (amp was discounted b/c of that purchase). Pumps.

I own this amp, and this is the best amp I've ever owned. Clearity is excellent, more power than you will ever need and the tube is the bomb. It pushes the Genz Benz UB 4-10 Cab very well.

Used it and was impressed

By KW in Tucson

from Tucson AZ

I was well on my way to getting a Markbass rig when I sat in with a band that had the Genz Benz 600.. WOW..This little monster was great. Ran only with the GB 12" and a satellite 10" cab and it cranked. Lows, highs, they were all there. Plus its made in AZ, USA. (calmed my warranty fears) My choice has now changed. Congrats Mr. Genzler on an excellent product!

Total Let Down!!

By MasterBasster

from Melbourne, Florida via NJ

First one failed and GB replaced it. Now the second on is having problems and I'm Extremely MAD.I purchased this product strictly on it's positive reviews. What a mistake. Now when GB fixes or replaces this one I'll never be able to fully trust it. I should have spent the extra $$ for the Mesa. Lesson learned.

The Best Amp Period!

By JAF2824

from Long Island, NY

I've played Boogie, GK, and most recently Markbass amps through the last 25 years. About a year ago I stumbled upon the MarkBass Little Mark2 head and thought I won the lottery of tone! Guess again; I walked into a rehearsal space a few weeks ago and the amp on site was the Genz Benz GBE 600 I immediately fell in love with the tone and the ability to dial in a great sound quickly. I did not want a heavy amp of that size so I checked out the entire line up of Genz Benz amps and found the Shuttle 6.0 to be the perfect fit. I sold the Little Mark immediately and have to tell you, the sound, ease of use, power, and clarity to be the best I have ever heard! Period! At 3.75 pounds and 600 watts, you don't need anything else. Metal, funk, classic tube sounds, it's all there! And amazingly, I called Genz Benz with a question regarding the amp and none other than Jeff Genzler called me back personally! Great guy, great amp, buy it!

Very Nice, Great Success!s

The bass player in my band recently switched to this, and had played through a sansamp and power amp prior to it. This thing kills the sansamp as far as tone is concerned, and is extremely small and light for a bass amp. Has a nice and warm round sound if that's what you're looking for.

From an engineer's POV

By bkstagekwk

from Louisiana

First of all, let me say that this thing BUMPS! I worked with a band this weekend whose bass player had this amp paired with the 2x12 cabinet and it was LOUD! Don't get me wrong; it sounded great. This bass player had to play many different styles throughout the night and the rig sounded great all night. He said that he had the fan modded and sped up cuz it was getting hot. So use that info at your discretion. He did say that GenzBenz did the mod/repair for him. He carries it IN his gig bag with his bass!! The direct out was super clean too. Not even the slightest buzz.

This is the one you are looking for !

By Kiss-my-Bass

from Saint Petersburg, Florida

LOOK no further- This is IT; Well made and so portable.Cool looking. Works every time and no hiccups with it. Before I bought it, I e-mailed a question via the Genz Benz web site. The OWNER /CEO answered personally, within TWO hours, and it was a SATURDAY afternoon. Now THAT is service ! ! Tell me another company that does that. Features: Size and power. It is so small and light, it seems like a toy, - till you power it up, then WHAM ! It rocks, and rocks ALL NIGHT, never misses a beat. Cute little blue lights as well..It has all the features, plus a little switch on the back to automatically switch in to European voltage (240) if you are a travelling man. The only thing I can think of adding would be a built in tuner, but I am now being picky. I like it as it is. Sound: Brilliant tone, and a very nice "tube" sound, on a par with much more expensive 'boutique' amps. In the past I have either used or owned, Fender, Hi-watt, Marshall, Ampeg, Eden etc. etc; you get the picture, well this baby is up there in the BIG league and LOT cheaper. It will reproduce ANY sound you want of the afore-mentioned heads. Fantastic bass boost /gain control on it. Playability and Feel,is great. It Rocks all night, and you would not believe the amount of interest it creates among other players.
