Comments about Hartke LH Series LH500 500 Watt Hybrid Bass Amp Head:

Im gonna try to keep this short and sweet.

Hartke uses the cheap but reliable parts (you know parts that arent the light weight heavy duty) so this thing is built like a tank and reliable but a back breaker if you carry it around.

This thing is also very clean, you'll definitely need distortion and overdrives to dirty this thing up, and on the subject of pedals you can add any effects in the front and it sounds good, I run my chorus through the front and I prefer it over the fx loop.

Now this thing is loud, Im on one for bedroom use and its probably to loud but what ever, I can probably be on one or 2 and be heard over a drummer.

This thing is versatile to, i play mainly heavy aggressive styles of music and it works great but jazz, funk and many non metal or rock bassist use this amp to.

also simple is more for me and this doesnt get any more simple to use

So if you want a powerful head that sounds better then most heads imo with out breaking the bank and can jam in a band, this is the head for you. I do recommend breaking the bank with the hydrive cabinets, I plan on getting those this and those is a perfect match

Comments about Hartke LH Series LH500 500 Watt Hybrid Bass Amp Head:

So Im primarily a guitar player but also play bass, especially for all of the home recordings I do for personal projects. I was in the market for a second bass head (already own an ampeg svt3 pro) for a different tonal color and came across this head used in my local music store. I played in through an amp classic lhf410 cab and it sounded absolutely crazy good! I couldn't believe how much I actually liked this head and i looked at the price and thought it was a joke! Before hitting this one I had played a few high end heads that were on the shelf and kept coming back to this one over and over before leaving the store with it. I took the stock tube out and replaced it with a genalex 12ax7 which gave it even more headroom and clarity and I swear this competes with my amp head note for note! Now don't get me wrong, an all tune amp set classic might be the creme of creme but seriously i don't really seeing anyone needing much more than this unless you need serious wattage for large shows, etc. I myself do not have those needs but rather only for straight recording applications and this head just kills! Plug in, slide an re20 in front of the cab and your track is nearly radio ready in my opinion! All in all this is the first time I was glad to not get what I paid for but rather so much much more!!!

Comments about Hartke LH Series LH500 500 Watt Hybrid Bass Amp Head:

I bought this amp as a "backup" to take along on gigs for that eventual, and unfortunate time where you will need it. I have always been a Carvin artist and almost everything I have has their name on it, including my regular amp which is a Carvin BX500. I was drawn to the Hartke because of price and simplicity of use...when you're swapping out an amp on stage due to an emergency you don't have tons of time to fiddle around. I decided to spend some time with the LH500 and found it to be a really great sounding amp requiring very little adjustment or EQ to get a great tone. I set mine according the the manual for the old school "Motown" sound, and it is simply just fantastic, for me it's what a bass guitar SHOULD sound like. The amp doesn't have a ton of features, but what it does have is good usable power and a lot of warmth. If you like your amps no-frills and basic with easy to dial-in tone, this might just be the hot ticket for you. There are a few things I don't like and Hartke could really improve this amp by adding them or working them into the design; one, the speaker connections are only 1/4", there is no ability to use Speakon connectors (Carvin has this option). Also, the amp needs a minimum of 4 ohm load, my Carvin has a 2 ohm switch (which comes in handy when you have multiple cabs). I'm using this amp to drive two 15" 8 ohm Carvin cabs with horns. The sound is great, but if you're going to use the "Bright" switch, turn the attenuators for the horns off. "Bright" plus horns = BAD. As far as weight and size, it's bigger and heavier than my Carvin, by today's standards with everything going to microbass amps, this thing is a tank. Might be a consideration for some when looking at amps. Anyway, in the end, I enjoyed the tone and warmth of this amp so much that I pulled my BX500 out of my rack and put the Hartke in there. It wasn't my original plan, but now the BX500 is serving backup duty. If you like smaller power amps and don't want to spend forever twiddling knobs to get a great sound, this little Hartke is sure the hot ticket.

Got this amp after weeks of researching different brands. So glad I found this gem. It's a basic amp but this thing is ADA approved for loosing dental fillings. If you want a clean powerful amp devoid of clutter, all I can say is get this thing and enjoy the excellent bottom end and great tonal shaping!!

I bought this head to power my first "pro-grade" rig. It offers tone galore. The tubes warm up quickly and the chassis feels very sturdy. I took it to a jam session, and all of the other musicians told me I had the best sounding rig they'd heard. The DI has been reliable, so far, and its tones sound amazing on recorded audio in my home studio (my main player for this being my Schecter Diamond series prototype). The controls are straightforward and easy to dial in. Hands down, and excellent purchase.

Comments about Hartke LH Series LH500 500 Watt Hybrid Bass Amp Head:

I originally wanted a Orange Bass Terror for a new bass amp, but it was hugely out of my price range. I did research on the LH500, and realized it's pretty much spec for spec a Bass Terror.
The amp is rack mountable, or it has feet, so you can rest it on top of a cabinet with no worries. It's a all metal construction and feels strong and durable.
If I were to have any gripes about it, it's that the pre-amp tubes take FOREVER to warm up. Sometimes, I think the amp is broken, then BOOM, it kicks on. Also, if you try to put the volume below two, you loose ALL tone, and it sounds really compressed and flat. Roll this baby to 5 or 6, and it rumbles your house!
For the price, this is a great amp for a gigging musician, as well as anyone starting off, but wanting something big!

Comments about Hartke LH Series LH500 500 Watt Hybrid Bass Amp Head:

The Hartke LH500 is an awesome head with great tone and plenty of power. We drive an Ampeg 810 cabinet with it and it sounds awesome. It's hard to dial up a bad tone with this amp. We run the bass on 5, mid on 8 and high on 4 and it sounds just right for drop tune hard rock. Great price too, you can't find another amp at this price point that can compete with the LH500. The Ampeg PF-500 might come close, but it costs more and reviews say it goes into protection mode when pushed too hard. Not the Hartke LH500 - we have played it for an hour with the gain on 9 and it was still crystal clear with no clipping or cutting out. You just can't beat it!! Great amp!!

Comments about Hartke LH Series LH500 500 Watt Hybrid Bass Amp Head:

The Hartke LH series amplifiers take you back to the basics...in a good way. If you're tired of fiddling with too many knobs, tube emulators, and 10 band eq's, this is the head for you.

Both models are VERY powerful and absolutely ooze with tone. Similar to the Fender Bassman and Alembic preamps, the LH models use a tone stack. Instead of taking days to find your tone, you'll find it in minutes. With a single master volume, bright switch, and limiter switch, it couldn't be more fool-proof. The preamp tube adds a surprising amount of warmth to these amps.

The LH500 amp is a beast and will hold up to regular gigging and touring. It is warm, beefy, and bell-clear even when pushed to it's limits...exactly what it is designed to do.

At a ridiculous price point, I can't recommend this amp enough.

I am a Hartke man since I purchased my first head ( 500 watt bi-amp ). I wanted a second head to use at rehearsal and as a back up since my other head has some age on it. The first head came and did not work. The help at Musicians Friend was great on getting it returned and over nighted me a new head as soon as they got them back in stock (they were out when I called). New one arrived and so far, so good. It has plenty on power for my use. I rehearse with a 410 and normally use a 115 when gigging. I use in ear monitors so the live sound is for those in the band that use wedges. So far I have been able to get the eq pretty much as I need. Bright switch does what it's designed for but I most likely won't use it much as
the eq gives me the tone I use. The power has to be on 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 to be good enough for gigs. Much more is too much, less is not enough. Overall design is good. Price is good for the quality. Overall I give it a good rating.
