I've owned this head and two 1X12 cabs for a couple of years as my gigging amp. I get out about three times a month with the band and everywhere we play the sound guys just love this thing. They are always asking me about the amp and telling me how good it sounds. I asked the last guy how much he thought I spent on it. After looking it over and seeing Soldano on it he guessed about 4 times what it cost. I'm telling you this is one of the best amps I've ever owned. I just replaced the stock tubes with some EuroTubes and can't wait for the next gig...

This amp is good for someone who wants a lot of high-gain sounds. I found it difficult to get a nice bluesy kind of overdrive, and the clean sound was not very impressive either. I also found the EQ to not be very responsive. It required a dramatic change in the bass, mid, or treble settings to hear a noticeable difference. Overall, its not a bad amp, but I wouldn't say it lives up to all the great reviews it seems to get on here. It deserves 3 or 4 stars in my opinion.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This is a great sounding rock n roll amp. I used to play a 79 Marshall JMP 2204 and this has a similar sound despite the different output tubes. This amp achieves the slightly tighter and more compressed sound I was unable to achieve with the Marshall without turning it way up. I find the JCA20 to sound nice and balanced, lows aren't muddy, highs aren't piercing or unpleasant, mids sound great without being too dark. Takes my tubescreamer well. Sounds great at bedroom volume. It's not going to produce a super clean sound with a lot of volume, which for me is a non issue, and anyone who has read many reviews on this amp knows that it starts to distort very low on the preamp gain knob. It responds very dynamically to your playing and attack, probably more noticeably than any other amp I've owned. I've been wanting a low wattage Marshall-esque amp with master volume loud enough play with a band. This achieves that remarkably well for a fraction of the cost. This isn't just a sounds-good-for-the-money situation. This a great sounding rock n roll beast. I'd be pleased with this amp's sound if it had cost much more than this. Nice and punchy, lots of bark. Great crunch.
Bought this to replace my Egnater Rebel 20. I found the Egnater to be smoother sounding - it was close but didn't quite have the growl I was looking for that I'm now getting with the Jet City.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Bought this as I was interested in the affordable version of the Soldano and MF had a great sale ongoing. There's only really two downsides to this amp.... It's fairly large for it's features and wattage (about twice the size of my Mesa mini-rec) and you have to use the one-button footswitch to turn on the drive channel. The clean channel has good sounds and the gain/master controls are easy to use. My issue is the drive channel, where once you get the gain/master off the peg, it's instantly VERY loud. Totally different from the clean channel. Not the end of the world for many, but if you wanted to play around with the drive channel controls at home, it's not easy at a comfortable volume.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I love these amps and they will get stupid loud. I know people don't like the thought of needing to bias and retube a brand new amp. I do it to every amp I buy. I normally run mine on the clean side and get my O.D. and distortion from pedals but this amp has plenty of bark when the gain is pushed. This is probably not the amp for you if you want ridiculous distortion but it may be achievable with the right pedal. The only real downside to this amp in my opinion is the lack of reverb and effects loop. There are great tones in this amp but you have to work at shaping that as you do with any amp. I like this amp with any guitar or pickup that I plug into it. Single coils sound sweet and chimey and humbuckers give it that extra push.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

After seeing video reviews of this Amp i thought i would give it a try. I was impressed, this is a great little amp has nice overdrive and when boosted with my overdrive pedal has great sounding distortion. The clean sound is a little lacking but i didn't buy it to play clean. I wish i would have bought one a long time ago. Basic settings single channel easy to set up the sound i want. I was thinking i would MOD this amp but after playing and using my boss sd-1 to boost i don't need any mods.

Don't be fooled by the size or the wattage. This thing is a serious beast with amazing tone! I've played 4 gigs with it and it sounds better every time! I play a frankenstrat with a hotrail and run the amp into an Avatar 2x12 with V30s. Pure balls, you need one in your arsenal!!

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've owned this little amp for about two years, and it simply blows me away every time I play it -- it's extremely straight forward, easy to set up and the tone is completely out of the league of the other amps in this price range. For small club gigs it's the perfect choice, it's amazing how much sound 20 all tube watts gives you - I most often play it through an old Randall 4X12 loaded with Celestion speakers and it drives the cab with ease. Of course, with its simplicity, comes a few limitations - if you're a real effects geek, you may miss the an effects loop or on-board modeling capabilities. If you like straight up solid rock tones and don't like messing overly much with the equipment while playing -- this amp will suit your needs wonderfully... Of course, not that you can't run effects through it - but its plug in the guitar input, which is a bit limited compared to a dedicated loop. In conclusion - if you want HUGE rock tube tones in an easily portable, affordable, simply laid out head, you will love this amp. Sure, I'd love to have an Orange Rockerverb head, but you can buy four of the Jet City amps for the price, and really, not be sacrificing a lick in tone!!!

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have had my jca20h for about 2 years now. I love it so much! It sounds like an ac15 on steroids. It has great cleans and good crunch. I put the retro valves from jet city in the preamp and they sound great. I use mine clean and put all my effects through the front of the amp. I'm sure for people that want to use the gain built in they would want an effects loop. I don't need an effects loop, but it would have been nice to have one. With that being said, it has great tone and it is a great price. Buy it! It is a steal for the price!

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA20H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I wanted a back up Amp Head to my aging and fragile 1980's Marshall Mosfet 100 Watt Lead that was light and easy to carry to performances in nightclubs and outdoor venues. This amp has enough power for a Blackstar 2X12 Cabinet miked through a PA and is very pedal friendly. I appreciate the simplicity of design and pre and power amp tube configuration. You can dial in the tone you need both clean and dirty, though you may feel the need to add reverb, tremolo and other effects to get to your nirvana. What is important to me is that the size and light weight and so far, the reliability to act either as a back up or main amp to power the American Deluxe 70th Anniversary Fender Tele, American Stratocaster and Faded Cherryburst Les Paul through a number of Boss Pedals. I purchased on sale through MF with a discount and couldn't be more please with the price. I don't think you will find another Tube Amp Head out there for the money that can provide the tones you need. Highly Recommended!
