I bought this Jet City JCA22H, after owning a JCA2212C Combo for over a year. That combo, was also a stupid deal, and aside from microphonic tubes, and a faulty bias pot, has the sound of any amp I've owned. I have owned a lot of amps over my 35 years as a semi-professional guitar player. Including: 70s Fender Champ, Fender Champ XD, Hot Rod DeVille, 70s Acoustic 450 Head, Fender Dual Showman, 70s Fender Pro Reverb (hot rodded with master volume), Lab Series by Moog, Fender M-80 Stereo Chorus, Pignose 30 watt tube, Marshall JCM 900 with 1960a 4X12 cabinet, Peavey 130 Special, Peavey Prowler, Peavey Classic 30, and dozens of analog and digital effects. This 20 watt Jet City designed by Michael Soldano, blows them all away. Having 2 foot switchable channels of Crunch, and Overdrive, with independent Gain, and Master Volume is uber useful. It gives you the ability to play every genre, from brown sound, to Soldano overdrive. It has a tube buffered Effects Loop, that I utilize for modulation effects, allowing me to use the amp's tube gain. Stick a Tube Screamer in front of it, and it's over the top! The closed back cabinet is loaded with a quality 16 ohm Eminence speaker. There are 3 speaker outputs, 1-16 ohm, and 2-8 ohm, to add an external 16 ohm speaker. I use 2 - 8 ohm 12 cabinets in series, and it's LOUD, and bleeds EL84 tube tone! I'd like it to have reverb, and a channel switch on the amp, but I have a reverb pedal, and after warranty, it will have a channel switch. I had this puppy in my cart for 1/2 an hour, before hitting BUY. I have a bad back, and tis amp is just about my lifting limit, so I don't have to rely on others to carry it!

I'd read some good things about this amp, and figured I'd give it a try. I played it through different cabs with a Vintage 30, Alnico Blue, and Greenback. It was really not great through all of them. Harsh, thin, buzzy distortion. I got an RMA the same day it arrived and put it in the mail the next. I wouldn't recommend this amp to anyone for any style of music.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

OK, this is a great amp, however, before you buy it here are some things you might want to know. The first thing is is that this is a very loud 20 watts. If you want to use this for home use your probably going to be using this on either 1 or 2 (probably 1, this is the loudest 20 watts I've ever heard) on the master control. The problem with this is that the preamp tubes aren't getting pushed and this amp's sound relies on tube pushing, at least IMHO. Without the push this amp can sound a little muddy and, to me, is a little dark sounding. That being said, this is a simple fix. All you need is a boost, distortion, or overdrive pedal. Turn the boost up or turn the level on the distortion or overdrive pedal up and leave the distortion or overdrive effect at zero and you'll push the tubes and clean up and tighten the amps sound. When you do this the sound of this amp is hard to beat and makes this amp one of the best I've ever heard. The pedal used doesn't have to be an expensive pedal either. I used a cheap Danelectro Pastrami Overdrive Pedal that worked perfectly and now I can use this amp at bedroom levels and get awesome tone. Before doing this I was considering returning it as it was a bit much for my needs. One more thing, this is a pretty good sized head so don't expect something small like Peavey's MH line of heads. It is, however, well built and fairly light for it's size. Hope this answers some questions that may not have been answered in the previous reviews. Remember, this is my opinion and yours may vary and sound, like almost everything in life, is subjective.

I have been playing guitar over 36 years, and have owned a plethora of solid state and tube amps. The jca22h is perfect for gigs, plenty of volume. Takes pedals well, and easy to use. The tone is awesome through my Peavey 212mc slant back with Celestions. I'm buying another just to have another for backup. The build quality is impressive for the money paid.

I wanted something a little different than my Marshall and I wanted an amp head that was portable for club gigs. I tried the jetcity at my first gig last night and it sounded great. Really light and easy to carry. I'm so glad I convinced myself to pull the trigger on this amp. I ordered the 2 channel head on back order and it was worth the wait.

I bought this amp because I was looking for a tube amp, never really played a tube amp but tired of tone chasing w/ tranny amps. Tube amps are pricey but this was well within my range. Hooked it up and jammed w/ a professional band to see how it kept up w/ drums, guitar & bass, and wow for 20watt amp this thing cranked, keep in mind its not a JCM800 but close to it. It is well worth it. I will buy more and HIGHLY recommend this amp. My guitar player friend is a seasoned musician and played through it w/ a PRS and was also blown away by its performance, straight amp-no effects. If your on a budget and need/want tube amp tone & performance, you cant go wrong.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Having a couple of tube amps in my arsenal, I really did not need another one except I could not refuse this amp for the price. The 22H is a hell of a deal. I am already laughing at the price that I paid of it. I paired it with two 1x12 cab running at 8ohm each. The amp is very loud. At 2, my neighbor would be complaining. There are only two channel. The crunch channel has an AC/DC type of sound. Really nice. Getting a clean sound with headroom is not an option. The overdrive channel will melt your face off. Brown sound heaven to early Metallica tones. The con on this amp is I get a slight humming sound as I turn up the volume. I even changed the tubes to all JJs but the humming sound still exist. I am not sure if it is a pre-amp tube but it only exist on the overdrive channel. I am getting the amp biased and hope that hum will go away. Overall, I am pleased with this amp. You can't beat the price a very well made tube amp.

Only con so far is... The Head defaults to the distortion channel when the foot switch isn't used.
                  Otherwise, would recommend highly.

Comments about Jet City Amplification JCA22H 20W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

After buying the Jet City 100HDM head, I decided to try the Jet City 22H. Since I received it, I've been comparing the two side by side, using the same Jet City 48S 4x12 cabinets under each.

Although I do use the volume and tone controls on my guitars to alter the tones, I prefer the versatility of multi-channel amps. This has the same "crunch" and "overdrive" channel configuration as the 100HDM. Like the 100HDM, I find the gain and volume pots are rather sensitive. The buffered effects loop on both amps is a nice feature. Both heads also use five 12AX7 tubes in the preamp.

That's pretty much where the direct comparison ends, because this is a 20 watt head that uses EL84 tubes. This makes a significant difference in the base tone.

While the 22H does offer clear note articulation, it's a breed in itself.

The EQ is easy to set. I have the bass turned up on mine about 3/4 of the way. Although it sounds great, it isn't as "punchy" as the 100HDM set at the same volume. (The depth pot on the 100HDM makes a significant difference.) The 22H has more of a "classic rock" base sound with all the stock factory components in place, including the tubes.

The latest version incorporates a solid baffle, unlike the open metal grill on the HDM. A strip of white piping nicely offsets the new, rectangular logo. Since this baffle is secured from the rear, it will make access to the preamp tubes a bit more labor intensive.

The foot-switch operates fine but, for some reason, it isn't interchangeable with my 100HDM head.

Considering it's a 2 channel, all tube head with a straight-forward design I think the 22H really is a bargain. It's a good bit different from my 100HDM, but I expected that. I'm not disappointed at all!
