OVERVIEW

Chromatic floor tuner with a large LED display.

The KORG Pitchblack Chromatic Tuner is now available in various collectible colors, but only for a limited time. The Pitchblack Chromatic Pedal Tuner offers you high precision, advanced functionality, and sleek style to make it KORG's most advanced guitar/bass stompbox-style tuner yet. The Pitchblack tuner has a tough aluminum die-cast body that will endure hard use on the road or in the studio. The large LED meter and note name display with light-emitting surface is easy to read in any setting from daylight to stage light to no light. The extremely smooth eleven-segment LED meter allows accurate visual tuning from any angle. The Pitchblack has a red LED to indicate on/off status and a tuning range of E0 (20.60 Hz) to C8 (4,186 Hz) with adjustable calibration between 436-445Hz.

The Pitchblack's LED meter can be switched among four display modes including: Meter, Full Strobe, Half Strobe, and Mirror.
Meter mode
Similar to using a needle meter, tune your instrument so that the green LED in the center of the LED display lights and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The tuning LED's will be to the right of center if your instrument is sharp, and to the left of the center if your instrument is flat.

Full Strobe mode
Tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The LED meters will stream from left to right if your instrument is sharp and from right to left if your instrument is flat.

Half Strobe mode

Tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and only the green LED in the center is lit and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The LED meters will stream to the right of center if your instrument is sharp, and to the left of center if your instrument is flat. When the pitch is correct, only the center LED will be lit.

Mirror mode

Tune your instrument so that the two LEDs on the left and right sides of the center LED meet in the middle and both tuning guide LED's are lit. The pitch lit LEDs will spread farther apart the more your instrument is out of tune. The left tuning guide will light if your instrument is flat, and the right tuning guide will light if your instrument is sharp.

100% True-bypass output keeps your tone intact
The Pitchblack mutes the input signal for silent tuning, and when you're not tuning the input is passed directly to the output jack without being affected by any circuitry (True Bypass). So even if you connect the Pitchblack between several of your favorite pedals, the signal will pass without going through the internal buffer amp, ensuring that the sounds you've created using your effects will not be colored in any way. The Pitchblack is designed to coexist transparently with other effect pedals.

A perfect fit in your pedal board plus the DC output powers other pedals
The Pitchblack is designed to fit conveniently into your pedal board system. It provides a DC OUT jack that can supply power to other effect pedals when the optional AC adaptor is used. By connecting optional DC cables, you can supply up to 200 mA of power to multiple effect pedals, simplifying the power connections in your pedal board.

  • 100% True-bypass output keeps your tone intact
  • Choose from four types of display modes: Strobe, Half Strobe, Meter & Mirror
  • Compact pedal-sized guitar/bass tuner that fits in your pedal board

So far so good but We all Know nothing lasts forever. If this one ever dies I'll definitely buy another.
I have owned this pedal for well over four years and I have used it almost every day since I bought it.
It has never failed me which is more than I can say for the tuner it replaced. (You know the one, It's that white one that almost everybody seems to own.)
When I went to the music store to buy a replacement for the defunct "TU" the guitar tech raved about this pedal and after being shown all the functions and the fact it was true bypass I was sold.
It is also a lot more accurate than the one it replaced. I guess I should add that I do guitar repairs and setups and therefore that should give you an idea of how much I use it.
Very well built and it really is true bypass. I have not been kind to either. I play out almost every weekend and it gets put in a tool bag along with guitar cables.a set of Cruz-Tools, a guitar stand amd a Mag-Light. Outside of a few scratches on the housing it does everything it's supposed to do.
The only complaint I have is the lettering on the front of the pedal where the plug-ins and calibration buttons are is very faint and hard to read. Hopefully they have resolved that.
I paid $89.00 plus tax for it four years ago and if my math is correct that adds up to about 6 cents a day since I owned it. That's a pretty good deal for something that's made me a lot of money.

The tuner itself I like, its dead simple, works great and you can see it great in the dark.Since I have 12 pedals on my(big) pedalboard, this seemed like a godsend, because it picked up where the One Spot daisy chain left off,and powered the extra three pedals the One Spot could not power. This worked good for about 2 years and then in the middle of a gig (of course) my pedalboard started cutting in and out.I had to unplug and run my guitar strait into my amp for the other half of the gig.A few days later I went through my board looking for the problem, when I realized the 3 pedals running off the pitchblack were dead.I'm still using it because the tuner works fine, but I would not count on Korg to power your pedals.

Comments about Korg Pitchblack Chromatic Pedal Tuner:

The Korg Pitchblack is a solid tuner. It locks on pitch very quickly, even on a 5-string bass. The display is super-easy to read on a dark stage or with bright lights shining in your face.

Potential buyers should note that unlike the Boss and Fender pedal tuners, the Korg pedal MUST mute the signal to tune. There is no "output" option, only a bypass.

It's a true bypass, so the signal is unaffected while not tuning, but once you engage the footswitch you're muted.

    likes it rough

    By losfrijoles

Comments about Korg Pitchblack Chromatic Pedal Tuner:

Having read the other reviews about their tuner crapping out after a number of months of light use at home or in-studio, I'd like to believe the key to getting the most of this is to show it some tough love. I've had mine for 10 months. For 4 of those months, I used it in south Mississippi heat and humidity outside 5 days a week dropping it in dirt, leaving it in the sun, spilling stuff on it, etc... with my school marching band playing guitar. At the end of the day, I'd throw it in the back of my truck and wouldn't see it again until the next day's practice. Ever since, I've been using it with a punk band almost every weekend. This little trooper has never let me down or led me astray. This pedal likes it rough.

    Pitchblack Chromatic Tuner

Comments about Korg Pitchblack Chromatic Pedal Tuner:

Buy this tuner. Don't look any further. Stomp on it, feel secure. It's not indestructable, but it's pretty close. I've done pretty much everything other than drive over mine. If you send me a new one, I'll try it though! Sounds fun.
It's a tuner, it picks up my bass, electric, and acoustic with precision. Great illumination on the display.
We are a gigging, drinking, and overall abusive band on equipement, we have replaced all other tuners throughout time and purchased these units. Pretty much a prerequisit to jammin with us. If you have tuning issues with this unit - check your instrument first. If you have power issues, check your breaker first. I can't break 'em and I break everything. Never had a single one fail.
Only 2 things in life that make it worth living.... I know the guitars that tune good is one of 'em, the other is still up for debate. I can't stand to listen to a band that tunes once a set (or at least sound like it), this is a must have - value A+++

Comments about Korg Pitchblack Chromatic Pedal Tuner:

Great tuner. Easy to use. I bought it to use at open mics I host. When guitarists have to unplug their guitars, I tell them to just push the button and unplug. It saves me the trouble of running over to the sound board and turning the volume down every time.

Comments about Korg Pitchblack Chromatic Pedal Tuner:

This is a nice, simple, straight forward tuner. A couple of the other reviews state that the stomp switch does not click when pressed. I'm not sure what they are talking about. It may not be as strong as a click on other true bypass pedals, but it definitely does click.
