My experience has been good w/the PODxt Bass modeler, I like it, Sound Engineers like it (both recording & live) and my band likes it. The way I have it setup doesn't kill the true organic wood tone of my Bass which is very important to me and perhaps a lot of Bass players out there who love their Basses. It makes cheap Basses sound good and expensive Basses sound great. I use it as a sole pre-amp connected to a QSC 850 watt power amp feeding a Mesa 4x10 speaker cabinet and I must say that I don't need more, clear responsive tone live, enough presets for any situation. Dedicate some time when you first acquire it to learn how to use it and then is easy to make it sound great in different gig settings, like an open venue live show, a bar, a recording studio, etc. completely customizable. It has a cool tuner that can be muted or not, which comes quite handy when you wanna look professional while tuning or switching instruments live. A model & a D.I. balanced inch outputs that make it easier for live sound-guys, one for your amp and one to the mixer. I'd be happier if it had a metronome with adjustable volume to use while practicing, but other than that I'm pretty satisfied w/it so I strongly recommend it to a serious musician!

I either owned or used most of the stuff similar to BASS POD xt and I'm writing something I wish I read before I bought it.LIVEI tried plugging it into several diffent amps and PAs. If you want to use it live my advise is buy a good amp forget Bass POD. If you have to buy it plug it into a PA or a mono monitor speaker it will sound better but still dull. RECORDING. Bass POD xt is based on gearbox amp modelling which means that all Line 6 products sound the same. I DID try every line 6 product. It's better that any digitech or zoom but it's a long way away from studio quality. It's satisfactory for recording your first demo otherwise forget it.If you're into synth and funky octaver then BASS POD is really cool. Make sure you switch off amp modeling on this unit, though.

not all that

I've been fiddling with one of these for a couple days and I'm not that impressed. Where to start...It has a lot going on so I gave it a 9 for features but it's kind of hard to use for instance twisting knobs from .10 to 1000.00. Three out of four compressors are useless, the effects are kind of lame digital effects. The models are pretty good but somehow two dimensional. They obscure the tone of my bass in a way that usually a bad amp does. A real amp is more flexible and unique sounding. It does deliver some nice overdrive, the tube screamer stomp box and the Marshal Major definitely get "that sound." The synth sounds are truly sad and the tracking sucks. I don't know why it has so many types of reverb. All in all it has only a couple features to recommend it and many more to disappoint. I've tried out another modeler/multi effect for 1/3 the price that sounds just as good if not better.

I'm a believer

I come from the old school theory of bass... plug 'n' play. I've always just plugged in my bass straight into the head and tweaked the tone from there. If it didn't sound right, tough love, try harder. I recently got the Bass Pod (not the XT) based on a recommendation from my singer, who was a former bass player. I plugged it in and after my singer and I sat down and tweaked it for a while, got amazing tone out of my rig. It actually cleaned up the tone from my head's preamp! Later I upgraded to an Ampeg SVT-3 PRO, and the POD makes it sound ungodly good! Kudos to Line 6 for making an effects processor worth owning!

deserves the hype

Fantastic sound/amp models. Ability to "customize" to the exact sound you want is priceless. Even if you are a purist about bass tone, you will get sounds out of this you never could have dreamed of. Most of the effects and stomp models are studio quality. You won't need anything else for your bass recording needs.

best gift I ever got :-)

By bassmaneastcoast

from Eastern Shore, MD.

I got the bass podxt for xmas in 2003... I still love it. I use it for recording, practicing and for live stage use. It has a built in crossover option which I use live all the time... The amount of tweakability is incredible. I now run the high end straight into the board with a trs cable and run 70hz and below to a sub. Recording with the digital usb connection is the cleanest sound I have ever gotten on my computer. For some of my more jam oriented shindigs, I use a midi foot controller to call up any channel or parameter on the fly. If you have been playing for more than 15 years you will want this thing in your toolbox of gear. No doubt about it.

this thing rocks. It has so many effects and options, you could waste away a few days just playing around. Whats best of all in this rig is that the effects are actually useful. Of course, some are a bit out there, but for the most part, it's all ready to record. I did not like the distortion models, so if you like disto id suggest buying a good pedal you like. Also, im not a big fan of auto wah, so i use my wah pedal for wah. Other than that, this thing kicks a**, and is guaranteed to give you loads of good times just playing around.

This product lives up to the hype! I returned my crappy Digitech BP80 and even though the price on the Line 6 made me flinch at first, hearing was believing! After just messing around with it for a few minutes in the store, I knew I had to have it. Now, after really experimenting with it for a week at home, it has MORE than exceeded my expectations. Don't know how they put so much customization into such a little box. Excellent build quality, great effects, and a kick butt users guide to boot. Buy this!

Great for Recording

I write electronic and most of my instruments are soft synths. I wanted the sound of a real bass but was worried about the size of getting an amp. I then ran across the Bass PodXt. Not only does it allow me to directly record from it but it has all these great amps, mics, effects that sound great. After I recorded a bass line... I was impressed that I did not need to change any EQs on the mixer... the sound quality is that good!!!! It sounds great and it is inexpensive... pick one up!

Valuable Home Recording Tool

By Boognish

from Monroe, LA

I've had my POD for 4 months now and I'm still finding something new and cool every day. I've used it mostly for playing live (in conjunction with the Line 6 four button floorswitch) and it's been great. But just recently started using it to demo songs at home and the POD has shown it's true worth. You can set up just about any amp/cab/mic that you could possibly want. AND add a slew of effects. I'll agree with some of the other reviews that the distortion sounds aren't that great, but with a lot of tweaking I've been able to get some sweet tones. I've learned more about how effects work from using the POD than from the thousands of dollars I've spent on various stompboxes.

Best multi-fx I've ever used

By Tim-DuOtW

INCREDIBLE. All the settings are perfect, or close enough where you can get what you want. The N.I.B. setting is awesome, but you might need to raise the wah and cut the mids to get it right. The Finger Definition setting gets as close to tube as you can get without actually having any. The compressors are great, the distortions have great variety, all the mods are so versatile, and it has the best auto-wah I've ever heard. EVER. Great for slap. My favorite settings are Finger Definition, Jazz Deluxe, The Fish, NIB, Sabotage, Tom Sawyer, and Live at Leeds. I highly recommend this product, Line 6 is great!

Very nice

I've had my pod xt for a few months now, it has always come through for me tone wise. The distortion tones are beatifull. It is awesome how each of the distortion tones have sub-tones that are the sound, but different feel and such. You can make endless combinations from slap, to deep bass, it's just a beautiful little toy. I think it is a great value for the price, buy it if you can.

Great tool for folks who want great bass tones

By Hot to trot

I'm primarily a guitar player, but have a small home studio and with a Fender Precision bass at my disposal. I have struggled with getting decent bass tones on tape and find this thing indispensable. I can plug in and audition several tones in a matter of seconds, and I love the "Compress" knob. The tweakability is amazing. I don't use too many of the on-board effects, but don't mind having them.Tonally, it's never going to completely replace a good amp and mic, but I think the tones are great and very expressive and record fantastically. This a great-sounding, very well thought-out unit. Highly recommended.

I got the Bass Pod about a year ago on E-Bay for $***. it's pretty good for the efects. The distortion is good, the flange and auto wah are cool.the bass synth on mine dosent work for all of the frets but that might be just mine. the Amp models are good for cool tones. I still have to use the MIDI feature.

Well Worth It.

I bought this the other day. It was well worth the money, I must say. The first thing I noticed when I plugged it in was how it cut ALL hissing coming from my Bass head. Once I got that out of the way, I messed around with the preset tones and the like. If you have a specfic sound in mind, this will give you it.

Incredible!

By bassman06-al5Wh

This little modeler has just about every effect and amp setting you could ever want! It can make almost any bass or amp setup sound professional! The only (small) complaint I have about it is that it is not as easy to use as some other modelers, but don't let that stop you from buying it. It's amazing, and well worth the price.

Simply a must for bass players

By Bassman-T82qQ

I've had my PODxt for about a month and I love it. The overdrive is just right and the amp modeling is excellent. Some distortion effects are a bit too crunchy sounding for my tastes, but they are just right if you play heavy metal.

Bass PodXT is great!

By Scotty-aT94b

from Ottawa, Ont Can

I bought it used from anoth local musician. I also got the shortboard with it aswell and it makes for easy switching of channels while playing live. I used to have a bunch of pedals on the stage with me and would have to always run cables from each...The POD makes life easier to setup and tear down at the end of gigs. I can also edit my sounds quickly while playing.

Not as user friendly as hoped

By God forgave me

from Oakdale,Ca

I was hoping that this would be the answer for a number of concerns to playing live and recording. I have had it cut out on stage and give me a wonderful hum that is annoying. I went back to my pedal board and I am happy. As for recording on the computer. As of this writing and countless try's to download the necessary program that they claim to be free and easy to download I have had no luck in making it work. It's back in the box and I will sell it soon or use a sledge hammer on it. I am not happy and Line 6 will not be on any list of mine to buy in the future!

Great deal, versatile product, powerful capability

By Anonymous

I have wanted a Bass PODxt for more than three years...I was nuts about it, but I couldn't buy one until recently. Before I even purchased the POD, I downloaded and read >100 page .pdf manual several times...So...when I purchased it, I knew how to use 100% of the product right out of the box. This is a great product because once you read the manual and understand how to use it, you can create so many sounds. If for nothing else but the price, it is worth it. I mean, a tuner pedal is at least $100, a compression pedal is about $100, and a reverb/delay pedal is at least $100. Right there is the price of the POD, and it contains so much more (not to mention a TAP function for setting tempos).Even if you don't use bass effects, the ability to set EQs/amp/cabinet/mic settings and easily switch back and forth. I can play a regular verse, switch to a slap chorus, and use a 1/16th note picking pattern bridge within the same song with no interruption in play.Great product: you can record on any of your computer recording programs using a USB cable. This has many functions, and I am this product's biggest advocate.
