I've had my Basspod XT Live for about a month now. I wanted it primarily for live performance. I sometimes use several basses for some larger venues and previously had a problem getting a tone dialed in for each bass through a single chanel amp. So with the pre set capability of the Bass PodXT Live I can set up various banks of presets, and even name them for each bass. I have ended up skipping the need for a pre amp and plug the pod into my poweramp, and bass cab. I haven't tried the bi amp mode yet, but I have gotten as far as to check out how it can be set up. It looks very promising since it has so much control over the crossover point, and how steep a slope you can choose. (6, 12, 18, or 24db per octave) The 6 band semi paramectric EQ is very cool and can be memorized for each pre set. The amp and speaker combinations, with the EQ capabilities, takes tone control to a never before possible level through one amp. This is especially true when you consider the fact that you can custom tailor as many as 64 presets, or 16 banks of 4 pre sets each. Next is the effects. For live use I seldom mess with them, but I could really see using them for recording. It's hard to get much clairity with effects in live sound. One feature is that the effects have a crossover, so you can leave the lower frequencies dry and have the effect selected above the crossover point. I have yet to experiment with that. I am not a "techie" kind of guy at all. I'm 55, but refuse to be the "old dog that won't learn new tricks". It took a few reads through the manual for me because; well, you just don't know what you don't know untill you get into it, re-read it, keep trying things out, and eventually I "got it".I have to admit it was very challenging, but fascinating to discover the capabilities. This thing has taken my ears into new territory, and so it will also do that for my creativity. I have to rate this unit very highly. The quality is solid. The sound is as good as you are at editing, or creating your own. But,even the stock presets are cool. If you never got beyond the first preset you would have a nice SVT sound to enjoy.

I like the Pod but at the same time I don't. Here are my reasons: This is a great tool for the tinkering type of guys who love to play and alter all the different sounds you can get with this guy. You can go online and download free profiles that can mimick your favorite artist, or you can purchase additional packages with more goodies to add to you pod. The software is cool because you can even tweak the sounds yourself right there on your computer and save them right to the pod. This is cool! However, if you are an actively gigging guy, this poor little guy will never satisfy you. I tried to gig with it out of convenience and minimizing my effects pedals, but the POD can't take the beating. For this reason, I have to give it an average rating. When you are running this little guy thru your practice amp or headphones, it sounds so cool, but when you start running it thru the big boys, it just doesn't sound right. Even after spending all day with it trying to dial in the sound, it just doesn't get it. For this I have to give it an average rating.I think its worth it though for any avid bass player. Its so much fun sitting down on a Sunday, loafing around and tweaking all the different sounds you can get out of it!

This is the perfect all in one Bass tone machine

By Clark

from L.A.

If you take your time and tweak the sounds the amp models give you the biggest best sound you can get. But you need to get your gain structure right and eq right. And of course you need to send it through the best amp possible. And the effects are really great too. But if you are not into tweaking something to get the best sound this is not for you. There is no shortcut.

Line 6 Bass Pod XT Live

Great! It has many great effects that can be used simultaneously and you can create awesome new sounds. The only thing is the price is a little high, but what are you gonna do? Also, be careful what you're plugging into, it is nice to have an amp that has an effects loop, becuase if you put it into the input, you are adding your amps unique voicing to the sound, therefore altering the 'modeling' result.

what's not to love?

Beautiful! The only thing I wish I could do with this thing is to use two or more of the same type of pedals simultaneously. Meaning, Say maybe I want to use two different wahs at the same time, or two different distortion pedals, or two different amp models. But that's it. You've got most of the classic setups at your feet. it's awesome, I'm thinking of buying a second one to do just that, more options.

PODxt Live

For those of you who have only heard the online sound clips and are thinking of buying this without playing it in a store, go out and try it. I was amazed by the sound clips online and went and tried one out. I just couldn't get a good tone after 2 hours. It had a lot of "filler" effects, like synths. Some amp models were okay, like Chem X and Insane, but for the most part they sucked. I played the model based off of a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier and then plugged my guitar into the real thing right next to me. Huge difference. The main reason why I was looking at this was for the amp models, but most of them lacked what was in the real thing. If you'd use this more for effects like chorus, delay, flange, and weird synth things, it would be okay. But if you're looking for something to emulate amps, I'd just save the money for the real thing.

I am very pleased with Line6!!More features than you can handle, great tones, and built like a tank. I do think its a little much $$, but in the long run I thank its worth it.There's no way you can go wrong with Line6.You can tweak everything to your liking or leave it as is. With Line6 support and downloads you have a endless supply of tech help. I look forward to making music with this thing for years to come.

I bought one of these two days ago and already I am extreamly impressed. I did purchase the old desk top model of this about a year ago and returned it because it was not really fully useable in a live band without the additional 265 dollar foot switch. But this new model has it all. I also should point out to bass players who are skeptics on effects that this thing does so much more. Its amp modeling is the main reason I bought it. it makes getting slap tones a breeze along with any other thing you can think of. line six gets it right this time.

Sweet

By Jeff Cotter

from Kennesaw, GA

I have owned this for only a couple weeks and already have fallen in love with it. It has one of the best sounds even coming through my Fender Frontman Amp. It looks intimidating due to the numerous switches and what not but is easy to figure out and use, even on the spot at gigs and so forth. It has quite a few affects that will take all your old riffs and make them like new again. And when you play some Jaco on it, there are a couple effects that are PERFECT for it. There are also a lot of effects to take a song up a notch and make you relive that first feeling of learning a song that you always wanted to and can't believe it when you totally mastered it. It really will surprise you how usefull it can be.

Take note of the ratings!

I used this floorboard, and I was really disappointed. I have been playing for almost 6 years, and I was looking for something to tighten up my sound. I was mostly disappointed at the fact that it didn't have anywhere near the amount of features and controls that the Boss GT-6B had (which I bought and love). The Line 6 cost more, but is not up to par with the Boss.

Convinced me to get rid of stompboxes...

By Boozeguitar

See all my reviews

The PODxtLive has some great modeling abilities, and is a breeze to edit. The sound quality finally convinced me for the first time in my 18 years of playing to go digital and get rid of my stompboxes, though I did keep my Boss Metal Zone to use for extra grind on some of the cooler low gain amp models. Running it into a decent and versatile tube amp basically gives you all that you want from a good modeler--the equivalent of having your own arsenal of tube amps. Even if I had to lug it somewhere and plug into someone else's crappy solid state amp or direct into a PA, I'd feel confident in geting good, giggable tones. The effects tweak knob on mine went out recently (hence the low rating on quality) and I am not getting any response or help from Line6 techsupport as of yet. If it weren't for that, I'd give it 9's across the board.

DBassman hates it

By dbassman2000

from Tonopah NV

The low rating is due to the equipment I have, 2 qsc 3402's 1 svt350 pre-amp 2 bxt410's and 2 svt18's. The pod xt I feel is not designed for anything else other than a Variax/First Act 4 string and a busted up combo that you just got from a pawn shop. The effects are cool, but thats about it, the pedals are designed for someone with tiny feet, as you'll step on 2 if your not carefull, with my five string the effects really crap out when I hit B flat, even the tuner it comes with won't tune past "e", even if I model Ampeg, then unplug it my real ampegs kick its glutious maximus sound wise. Here is another item I bought that will sit on the shelf until surplus time.

Not worth it...

By Dan-5zHdd

I got this for a christmas present about a year and a half ago, and overall, I'm dissappointed. While it does have a LOT of different features, and many different amp models, most of them are useless or just plain sound bad. Using this thing basically killed my tone, and I found it impossible to cut through while using it. I also put down quality as a 5 because when I first bought it the volume/wah pedal was squeaking and sounded like a goose, but some silicone grease fixed that. Overall, I think it isn't worth it, as most of the effects sound very fake, and the amp models sound NOTHING like the real thing. Anyone want to buy mine from me?

Everything you could want or need for your bass

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This thing is incredible, I can't believe all the amp and cab models that you have access to. The effects are limitless and you can tweak each one to your exact liking. If you own a bass you need this to complete your arsenal, you will never complain about your tone ever again! Easy to use, and very stage friendly, I used it 4 days after I got it at a gig and had no problems, except for a jealous guitar player who just so happen to pick up the guitar version of the PODxt Live, Can't say enough, stop thinking and buy.

Great for PC-direct recording and live use

By Final Plea - ID

from Post Falls, ID

For studio work, this thing is outstanding. Record either via USB connection or Line-Out and you get a crisp tone identical to what you hear from the headphone jack (it even switches automatically to "studio" mode when headphones are plugged in. Personally, I've been recording via USB, with a line-out from our PC into the line-in on the POD, which routes the entire mix through the POD's headphone jack.In a jam/live environment, I run this through a Nady XA-900 into a Behringer B1800X cab and can nearly replicate the tone I get through headphones by setting the POD to "Amp/No Horn" output. I got nowhere close to this with my old Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro.I've yet to want a sound I couldn't create with this, the manual is 3/4" thick and easy to read (even entertaining). Switching amp/cab models and effects is seamless, as well, a big step up over the V-Amp.My only gripe with it is that there is no SP-DIF output, but that was overcome with the USB functionality. The Monkey software for control through your PC is very intuitive and easy to update.

I truly used to be a bass "Purist"; Axe & amp, that's it! But recently, I had the jones to add a little grease to my sound. I play in a classic and original rock trio and found the voicings of the Bass PODXT Live were exactly what the doctor ordered. Using this processor direcly into our mixing board and running it splash-back through the monitors, I have eliminated the need for an on-stage amplifier completely, yes, it is that versitile. The noise gate is phemomenal, there isn't any extra sound, even switching between pre-sets in the middle of a song. I recommend this Line 6 product to any bass player who would like to tailor their sound more effectively.

Not life changing

By Deathfunk666

from Anaheim, CA

As far as flexibility goes, this one owns.I bought this because I wanted to spice up my rig and it does that fantastically. The amp models and cabinets are great, no doubt I am satisfied with this purchase. There are too many good things to write about so Ill cut to the things I don't like.To begin with, the picture thats on Musicians Friends is nto a true description of the rear panel. IT IS NOT A STEREO OUT! It has a dual output but one is of the modeled sound the other is the DI.The synths and autowahs are crap. I tried tweeking them, their crap. And when you run two amps out from it, it makes them worse.I play an Eight String extended range Bass tuned to F#, and it does not respond well to those frequencies. (Its fine til you go below A)And on the one I bought, the expression pedal is too tight and makes an annoying squeeking sound. (Loud enough to be audible over about 1150 watts through an 8x10 and 2x10)Now I do think it was worth the money for the amp models and effects, just know its not the perfect piece to the sound your missing. It does help A LOT though
