The power you need, the sounds you want.

The Line 6 HD400 rack mount bass head, much like its LD400 Pro combo brother, offers LowDown tone in a powerful, rack-mountable amplifier. Boasting 5 fully adjustable essential tones, including Rock, Clean, R&B, Grind, and Brit, the LowDown HD400 amp head offers pro players uncompromising power, extraordinary versatility, and commanding tonal definition. The Line 6 HD400 bass amp head also comes with a crucial set of 5 effects, including a studio-quality compressor based on the immortal Teletronix LA-2A from the 60's, the Smart Control FX Envelope Filter, Octaver, Chorus, and a full-featured bass Synth with fully adjustable parameters.

The recipe for one great gig after another, night after night, the Line 6 HD400 is a bass amp head that features an array of ins, outs, and hardware like two NL4M-series Speakon speaker outputs, a balanced XLR direct output with exclusive A.I.R. processing, a 1/4" preamp output, an FBV jack, and rock-solid construction specifically designed to withstand life on the road.

    Amp Models:
    Clean

Inspired by the Eden Traveler, this model is all about clean, funk, and fusion bass tone. It'll give you warm lows and punchy highs.

    R&B

Inspired by a '68 B-15 Flip Top, this model is a tribute to those clean, fat, bass tones of the late 60's and early 70's. It is the kind of tone you hear on most Motown recordings, as played by the pioneering young bassist James Jamerson.

    Rock

This model is inspired by the '74 Ampeg SVT which has appeared on innumerable recordings and arena stages worldwide. Now, all the tone of the head and 300-pound behemoth 8x10 cab is available without having to lookup a chiropractor.

    Brit

Based on a '68 Marshall Super Bass, this model delivers the kind of overdriven bass sounds brought to us by late '60s British rock pioneers like Cream and The Who.

    Grind

As the name would suggest, this is for the modern rock sound of the late '90s and the new millennium popular in bands like Alice in Chains, Mudvayne, and Rage Against The Machine. Based on a distorted SansAmp PSA-1 into an SVT with a direct clean bass signal mixed in, this model gives you that angry, clear, and punchy aggression that cuts through the mix and takes your sound to DEFCON 1.

    Effects models:
    Compressor

This pro LA-2A-style compressor is ideal for helping every bass player - particularly the ones who play with their fingers -- achieve a smooth and consistent signal at any volume.

    Envelope filter

Based on a Q-Tron, this envelope filter effect can be heard on tons of major funk and rock tunes.

    Octaver

Based on the EBS OctaBass, this effect produces a single note one octave below the note you're playing to add a powerful new vibe to your sound.

    Chorus

Based on the much loved T.C. Electronic Chorus, this transparent, smooth, and expressive chorus was built for bass, and using it won't reduce your low end. It's an especially beautiful complement for fretless basses.

    Synth

Sitting at the back of the model knob is this secret weapon that turns LowDown into a '70s classic bass synth. From funk to modern rock, this fully adjustable synth delivers incredible tones while tracking every dynamic move you make.

    Features

    • 5 bass amp models: Clean, R&B, Rock, Brit, and Grind

    I like it!

    By Robert Pilcher

Comments about Line 6 LowDown HD400 400W Rack Mount Bass Amp Head:

I purchased the line6 lowdown HD400 rack mount bass amp head for our church. The church had been using my ampeg svt III. I really like the new head. It has plenty of power and is very easy to use. It doesn't take very long at all to get exactly the sound you are looking for. I like the presets and the tuner option as well. I do wish that the knobs were labeled above instead of below, but other than that a great head. We use it with a hartke 4-10 cab. sounds nice.

Best Bass Head I've Ever Had

    By cwfWwKBOP

Comments about Line 6 LowDown HD400 400W Rack Mount Bass Amp Head:

Best Head I have ever Had!
I give it an 9 because of the fact that the knob lables are under the knobs which unless you have an 8x10 u cant see them! other than that the effects are great, tuner is accurate, deep button really gives it that DOD Meatbox feel and if you are willing to invest in the shortboard you will never need an other pedal again (except maybe a suppressor or gate RECOMENDED)!
THE quality is great! Sturdy metal construction! Effects sound phenominal and (as a pedal junkie) can replace all effect pedals you may have! great sound! totally has converted me to line 6!
Great right now! since they are planning on discontinuing the item it runs for cheap which is great!

    Can't handle the cold

Comments about Line 6 LowDown HD400 400W Rack Mount Bass Amp Head:

Update/more on the HD400Lately I?ve been gigging it with a GK 212MBE 4-ohm cab, and it gets really loud. Problem is, at least with mine, since it got cold outside and it sat in the band trailer, when I brought it into the warm gig, it wouldn?t power the cab. Everything else worked, so since I go direct into the PA, I just put it in the drummer?s monitor and got through the gig. I took it home, and the next day it worked fine again, and I had to keep taking it home and keeping it warm. Then I forgot and it got stuck in the trailer again, and again it wouldn?t power the cab for the gig, I took it home, and again, the next day it worked fine. Someone who sounded like he knew what he was talking about said it was because of all the features and circuit boards, it couldn?t handle the condensation or something. This is inconvenient for me since four of us usually ride in the four-door pickup tow vehicle, and there?s no good place to keep it in the pickup cab. Anyways, I just ordered a GK MB500 mini/light head, and I have a Snark tuner (so I still don?t have anything on the floor) that works great, so the HD400 will live in the studio. Just a heads up in case someone is in a situation like mine where the head is going to get cold before the gig.

    good amp, but...

Comments about Line 6 LowDown HD400 400W Rack Mount Bass Amp Head:

I bought this mainly because it has a tuner and a compressor, and I don?t want anything on the floor, and my rack is just too heavy to justify hauling around to little bars. The tuner works well, even on my B string. Plenty of power for my old GK 8-ohm 410 cab on a loudish stage. If I needed more volume, I'd have to add more cabs.I set it on R&B, no effects or deep switch. Knobs arrangement is aggravating, as they all look the same, and some ?genius? thought to label them under the knobs where ya can?t see them, convenient I suppose for someone putting it on top of a seven foot rig. I rated it 5s on the features, quality and value, but dogged them one point on the ?overall? because of the knobs thing.

Comments about Line 6 LowDown HD400 400W Rack Mount Bass Amp Head:

I've had this head for a couple of days now, just got finished tweaking my effects and tone just right. Its an awesome head with unbelievable capabilites! If you are tired of not being heard this will definately get the heads to turn! I paired with a behringer 4x10 and definately not using the full power but its still plenty loud!!! Shook the paintings off my walls the first day and only had it Half way up!!!! If you are not the traditional bass player this is perfect for you, and if you are then you should consider broadening your horizons!!!!

    Awesome bass head

    By poit57

Comments about Line 6 LowDown HD400 400W Rack Mount Bass Amp Head:

I've only had it a day, but I am absolutely loving it. I upgraded from a Gallien Krueger Backline 600, which was okay for what I could aford at the time. I played through all of the presets, which has so much more than I could ever use, and found a few sounds that I will spend a majority of my time using.I used to own an Alesis BassFX multi-effects pedal, but after much tweaking, I could still not always get the sound I was trying to achieve. Some of the presets are exactly what I was looking for in terms of sound.I'm playing through one Kustom 4x10 cabinet, so I'm not using the amp to its full power potential, but it's still plenty loud for my purposes. The mp3 player input is also an added bonus over what I had before. My purchase of this amp has made me very happy, and that is with much anticipation. I've been eying this thing since about 6 months before it was even released. It just took me until now to be able to afford it.
