When I first opened up my POD, I was so eager to get it plugged in and going that I didn't read the manual. So naturally when I went and plugged it in and started playing around with some of the effects, my initial response was "this is cool, but how can it be worth 200 bucks?". Well then after I read the manual a bit, figured out how to access and use the storage banks, an started creating my own tones with it, I started to realize what a great tool I had for my guitar playing. True, it doesn't get the raw distortion you might ned for heavy metal (my brother's V-Amp getts a bit more distorted), but if you are plugging it into a combo like I do, use the amp's distortion and then you're really screaming. The effects are top notch, especialy when you use the tap button to customize them. I play mostly classic rock/blues/hard rock, and the POD can really get those lightly distorted tones such as AC/DC and KISS. It can cover Hard Rock distortions with Line 6 Insane (great for tapping). I use the POD with my Marshall and a crybaby wah, it makes all guitars (even my $150 Ibanez) sound good. So bottom line-If you're really into metal, this might not be for you, trade up to the xt, but if you play classic rock or hard rock, this is for you.

The POD offers a good sound for blues or light guitar riffs, with decent sounding effects. If you are serious about a hard rock or metal guitar sound - the POD doesn't even come close. Just listen to the sound demos out there on the internet with the rectified or hi gain settings, and you will notice a very "muddy" sound with no presence. (As if you were listening to someone behind a closed door playing their guitar.) The POD amp simulation works fine if you bypass the cabinet simulation and feed it directly into an amplifier (I use a Peavey 5150 2x12 Combo), but if you are recording directly from it, the cabinet simulation ruins the sound.

fairly versatile, but not for tone freaks

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I have owned my pod for about 4 years now, and I must say it has it's advantages and disadvantages. I do a lot of home recording, and the pod is ok for that, but you need a good pair of humbucker pickups for the best tone, in my opinion. I have two telecasters, one outfitted with the EMG 81 and 85, and I have an american tele with the standard noisless pickups. The american tele is a much thinner sound. The pod does a fairly nice job with the humbuckers, but not so much with single coils.

Not as good as all the hype

By Old Rocker

After 40 years as an active musician and several years as a home recording engineer, I will say this has some very good amp sounds but only if you use the Line6 edit software. There are several settings you can not even get to without it, like the AIR,Presense, changing reverbs. It would be almost impossible to use it live as you have no idea what the settings are, except in Manual mode. I give it a low rating as I also own the Vamp2 and for 1/2 the price it's sound is almost identical plus it has lights in the dials for everything. If this unit ever burns out it will definately NOT be replaced!!!

podtastic mate!

By jem-zLAZO

from cornwall

Having been thru the marshal head+cab then combo plus all assoc pedals... I switched 6 years ago to pod, then pod 2, regularly played big clubs with di straight to house pa otherwise thru a 4k backline and have not had a single failure, always get a quick eq with minor tweaks for venues and generally set a house line at 3/4 output and work of the fb volume pedal. no reflection on my playing but I get accused of having a mime track re the tones etc, several purists have had minor heart attacks when they've been chatting after gigs finding out it was all done without valves etc, I used to be a tone bore but this really (with some setting up) does it all! top piece of kit and all for 100 quid! I have an xt also now but cant seem to get the same sounds yet.

Versatile, simple, incredible tones!

I've tried just about every kind of amp, direct box, processor and stomp box, and now my search is over! The POD 2.0 has provided me with everything I need in a little box. I primarily use the "British High Gain" model for playing live-it sounds just like the old JCM800's I used to love so much! It's fantastic for recording, practicing with the headphones, or plugging into the mixing board direct for live performance. Even the other musicians I work with marvel at my tone. I can even get some sweet sounding controlled feedback through our stage monitors! Purists, say what you will about amp modeling, but I'm here to tell ya, I've changed my mind. After all, I was once one of you! The least you can do is give it a try. Play with it for a while, I promise you won't be disappointed! Also I recommend the FB4 footswitch for on-the-fly channel switching.

Great for those not wanting a dozen pedals

By Ibanez4

from Youngstown, OH

I play guitar as a hobby, and the POD 2.0 is great for what I want. A ton of effects in one easy to use device and a good price for it. Only drawback is that after a while I did realize that you will need the foot controller if you ever want to stand up and jam through an entire song without stopping to change settings.

THROW YOUR STOMP BOXES AWAY

By telemaster1988

from Fort Wayne, IN

I've used the POD for about 3-4 years now, and haven't switched to anything else. You get multiple amps and classic effects all rolled into one little kidney shaped box. I've done away with all of my stomp boxes and multi effects pedals, because none of them stand up to this. All I use live is the POD and a wah pedal going straight into my half stack, and I just bought the Floor Board, so now I don't even need my wah pedal anymore! Great Buy.

A while back i was given one of these from a friend of my dad's who also plays guitar. after i figured it out , i was amazed by some of the effects that could come out of this thing. (my particular favorite is the rotary) this thing is great and sounds good on both clean and overdrive.

Best all around choice

By Babbitt75

from Dublin, Ohio

See all my reviews

I've tried almost every processor there is and the POD is bar none the best choice. I'm also a tube amp purist, loyally using Mesa Boogie amps in my live setup for over 10 years nothing can compare to a real live tube amp, but... For jamming around the house, practicing or even recording the POD has tons and tons of features that will inspire you for a long time. My only complaint would be I'd like to see a stereo 1/4" or 1/8" single output rather than the seperate 1/4" jacks or midi. Also, you really have to dig deep to tweak your tones, such as the 16 extra amps that aren't labeled, the boost settings available through use of the TAP button. If you really dig deep into the manual you can make this little puppy do almost anything. Regardless they are mega-fun.

This thing is awesome!! It's like having a box full of assorted pedals in one. And then it has amazing amp models to choose from, the POD is defintly worth every cent. I also recommend getting the floor board.
