I have a 50 watt tube combo and a 100 watt tube head and was looking for an amp I could practice with late at night or with headphones.

I've tried the Blackstar HT-1R and the Yamaha THR10X and was not happy with either. The Yamaha made a 'farting' sound whenever I would palm mute, even at the lowest volumes. The Blackstar almost met my standards until I discovered the the reverb doesn't quite cut all the way out even when it was on 0.

I had purchased a Line 6 Spider IV 15 watt a few months ago and wasn't please with it as it had the same 'farting' sound with palm mutes and I took a leap of faith that the 30 watt could handle it with the large celestion speaker. Well, I was right. Not only does it handle the heavy palm mutes, the Metal and Insane Red and Green versions all produce different chugging sounds. I should mention that I don't put this above maybe 20% volume because it does get loud for indoors, and I don't know if the higher volumes could maintain the sweet chugging sounds.

I love the sounds this modeling amp puts out, especially the Red Metal channel and the Green Clean.

Can this be used for gigging? No. That isn't what this is designed for, but if you are looking for a great practice amp at an affordable price....do yourself a favor and pick this one up. I rarely write reviews, and this amp has my mark of approval.

I bought this as a bargain for the price of a pedal. This amp is a big seller which is part of the reason I bought it. I figure that many people can't be wrong. It was reviewed by some to be the one of the best up to date new modelling has to offer at a reasonable cost. I had owned the line 6 Flextone III back when it came out, far better in my opinion than the advanced "spider IV" series. This amp is the 30 watt model which does not have anymore than 12 presets. The 75 watt & up all have 100+. If the sound quality is equal to the 30, I'm glad I did not buy it. I found this amp out of the box to be wayyyy too trebly & shrill, eardrum ripping in almost all the presets. The red clean is the only Preset to me that is ok to listen to straight from the get go . I played a 98' USA Lonestar Strat through it. I could not believe the other crunchier channels were so shrill. On that note I did spend some time "tweaking " the amp 2 hrs. I ended up using the clean in all 4 -,A,B,C,D channels with little variation. This seems to be a basic" learning modelling" type of product not the "advanced up to date modelling " it was touted to be ie ".Spider series"
This amp will get loud to me, the headroomy 12" speaker helps. I should have known by researching this amp ie- Youtube etc. not many reviews, just demos mainly. I would have thought Line 6 -big company= better reviews. Nope, they just sell a bunch of these. I'm guessing to young eager beginner types that like Loud shrill metal type tones . You know ..like when you go to the" big box music store " near you on any Saturday ,bunch of kids trying to show off to each other. Ughh, I had also owned the floor pedal" 500 something or other" From line 6., did sound good through an amp & PA , But to me most presets on these modeler amps are terrible. IMO. This amp is built well as far as solid durable cabinet ,pots etc. It requires an external pedal to switch the channels remotely, added cost. It is what it is a "Toy" in my opinion.

    Great Amp

Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Just recieved this the other day and, really gave it a workout, it is all I thought it would be. This amp for the price you pay is unbelieveable, amp models, effects, built in tuner, able to store your sounds you like, what more could you want in a practice amp? I have an older model line6 flextone that I use to gig with and, I am sure that I could probably gig with this one also, plenty of power and, great sounds. With my older flextone when you use the floorboard that really opens the door to all kinds of sounds but, that is not available on this particular unit. Go for the spider 75 if you're looking for that. I have been a musician for over 40 yrs. and, line6 has given me what I needed for sound and ease of use, it's all right there in the amp simple as can be. I will probably get the fbv express mkII pedal to go with this just because I like to use a volume pedal and, access my tones with a footswitch. Great amp, priced right, Go for it.

Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

first off for all the nay sayers over this amp, if you think the sound is bad from this amp, then get a decent guitar cuz this amp sounds awsome. I run my 1989 kramer stagey deluxe 2 through this and man what tones you can get from this amp. my kramer has seymour duncan JB and jazz Pups and its a perfect combination for great tones from this amp. right out of the box i was getting awsome sounds with minimal tweeking, basically 5 minutes after plugging in I had an awsome clean tone and metal tone. after further playing with it I got even more great tones. this is a perfect amp for home practice or band practice. ITS LOUD trust me when i say you can drown out your drummer easily. setting the 4 diffrent channel effects is stupidly easy. ive never looked at the owners manual no need to. amp is very easy to adjust and when you want to save your custom tone its as simple as push and hold for a few seconds the channel button you wish to use. The built in mp3/ipod jack is a great bonus for jamming along with whatever music you want to play along with. I cant say anything about the built in tuner as ive never used it. the one and only con against this amp is that it does not come with the foot controller. thats a seperate purchase add-on. the amp is light weight and can take a beating. its well designed easy to use and most of all it does what its supposed to without making you go rob a bank to afford it. it sounds great and is loud. i typically when in the house practicing never turn the vol up past maybe 25-30% for band practice maybe its turned up 45% yes i have cranked the vol full on and man is it loud. It will wake up your neighborhood. there is a slight distortion at max volume but i dont ever need to go that high except for sh$ts n giggles. run this through a p.a system, mic it and its stage worthy and ready. in smaller clubs you dont even need to mic it. over all im happy as hell over this amp. perfect for about every style of music. i love it! enough said!

        Amazing amp for the money!

Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Overall, this amp is excellent. If it were damaged, I would buy another one, though this amp is very durable. I have accidently knocked it a few times and it still plays very, very well. It is a pleasure to own and play this amp, as it is a great value and has a ton of effects. It is amazing and I would recommend it (in fact I have to people already!). So what are you waiting for? Go buy this amplifier!
This amp has probably the most effects you can get for the money! It has 12 amp channels: clean, blues, crunch, metal and insane just to name some. With each of those channels you can use 3 built in effects at a time, including chorus/phaser, reverb and three types of delay as well as tremolo effects and phaser. Using these effects in combination with the 3 band eq (bass, middle, treble) you can get pretty much any noise you want. You can get GREAT distortion at a low volume thanks to the modeling technology this amp uses. The features are a great step up from that of my Fender Frontman 15.
Great quality is the only thing you should expect from this amplifier. Super powerful distortion at low volumes, and crisp clean tones are at your hands and easily switched from one to the other using the footswitch which you can buy as an add on.
This amp is simply the best you can get for the price. If I hadn't seen the price tag on it, I would have assumed that it were worth a lot more. This amp gives you flexibility and effects at great price. It is great for practicing, as well for recording with the headphones/line out port. This is definitely an amp for anybody interested in something a step up from the basic bedroom/practice amp, and I would definitely recommend it to anybody.

I ordered this thing to honestly, hold me over until I could get a better amp (decided to pick up the guitar again after a few years of letting work take over my life). I knew I wasn't going to be getting anything immaculate for this price, but I did expect better than this. If you like that shredder, overdone dirty sound, you'll get it with this amp. It seems to me like they spent way too much time putting as many effects as possible on this little guy instead taking that time to put something together that had A MORE QUALITY SOUND. Also, the volume levels never stay the same when turning it on and off (I'm really not imagining this). I'll have it at a comfortable level, turn it off, and the next time it's turned on it will sound maxed out (literally just have to inch one of the volume knobs down and back up a hair and it will go back to the level It was at, not a big deal, but it's annoying and I've never had any amp do that). I don't know where anyone gets off saying this is good for recording or performance...I would be embarassed to show it off anywhere. Thank goodness I am getting a new amp in just a few days, this thing blows. I would never recommend this to anyone who actually has an ear for music.

First off, to all those praising this amp for it's metal + insane sounds, you obviously haven't heard a 6505+ roar in your face. It's great for playing jazz, country, and blues. I recommend it to no one for metal and rock. As a picky guitar player, I only praise the headiest, warmest, tightest sounding amplifiers, this amp did not meet my standards.

Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

since i stopped gigging i really havent needed or wanted to deal with a large (2x12) amplifier so i began a search for one in a more suitable size and power output for someone playing at home and sometimes jamming with another guitarist. after playing 17 different amplifiers from many different brands with many different features i kept on going back to the spider iv 30. the sound is a lot bigger than i expected from a 30 watt, 1 x 12 amplifier and unlike several of the other amplifiers with multiple effects built in, this one doesn't sound really "brittle" or overly bright, rather it has a nice rich full sound. the features on this amplifier give the best bang for the buck as well, this has way more features than just about any other amplifier in this price range.

Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

This is one of the best practice amps out there. If you can't stretch your dollar fore a high end Marshall or Mesa/Boogie, this is the amp for you. It has a nice smooth clean tone, but it can dish out the distortion in a heart beat.
This thing has a little bit of everything for a practice amp. The Distortion settings are excellent, each light has a red and green state. Each light is based of off different amps. From Hiwatt to Mesa/Boogie, this amp can dish out all kinds of sounds.

The Flanger and Phaser sound really good but the tremolo is not very good. It only seems to adjust the volume of the tremolo other then how fast it is. The Echo effects sound really good, although I don't use them very much.
For a practice amp, it's great! But don't expect to gig with it. The sound quality could be better, it has a very digital hum to it and you need to tinker around with the settings for a while to get the right sound out of it. Once everything is dialed in, you should have no problem
What can I say? For the price, you can't go wrong!

Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

At first use, i liked this amp for a nice practice amp. well after a few weeks it got more and more on my nerves. Changing amp models turns on misc effects... this is a dumb feature. the worst thing Is the crunch channel. I'm not a metal player. i Play rockabilly, christian contemp, and hard rock sort of stuff, and the crunch gain is the base sound I need a lot of the time. Unfortunately if you do anything other then bang power chords they have so much noise gate on it you have almost no sustain. yeah its just a practice amp but the poor sound just really bothers me. No issue like this on the metal red channel, but its to much gain for what I play even cranked down, and not the right sound

OK first of all, for all of you who get mad that when you switch channels it ads effects to it: It comes that way UNTIL you program it not to!! Just set the channel without any effects and hold that channel button down until it blinks, then thats the way it will ALWAYS sound when you go to that channel until you add an effect. (read your manual!!!!!) So anyways. This is a great amp for the money. Its plenty loud for practice. The effects sound great and you can dial in any sound from blues to metal to classic rock. Of course it wont sound like a tube amp. Its not! But you cant buy a better more versitile amp for the money!

Well, i got this amp about a year ago and at first i thought it was really good... but then i got into a band and had to start cranking it up. the tone is preatty horrible without any pedals or anything if its up too loud. the effects are decent enough and i had no problem with them. but after playing it for about two months with it cranked, it like halfway blew out. when it was turned down low, the tone was fine, but turned up, the tone made me want to cry. and when i played any high notes, it just made a wavy sound and cut off.sooo over alll, this amp is good for beginners and intermediate guitarist looking for a practice amp, but if you crank it up to loud, your gonna be upset.

I have owened this amp for about 5-6 months. Twelve inch speaker, effects, decent modeling, Great bang for the buck. It takes a little fiddling with but find a basic sound from 12 selectable choices, tweek them in with the effects, save your favorite 4, and you will love this thing. There are separate controls, for gain, reverb, echo/delay, three tone knobs. There is also a knob chorus/flanger/phaser/tremolo which I really do not use. The controls are very strudy, not like some other units I have tried. Amp noise in minimal, if you hear any at all. I cannot complain about anything. Sound great at all volume levels if tweeked right. Great pratice amp.

This is a great amp it is so easy to use. it took me a little time to master this amp, and if you are the type that needs a bit more time to figure out amps this amp comes with 12 sounds already built in and it came with a paper with 3 awsome sounds that you can dial in yourself. It is built really strong and looks beautiful. This is a great choice for beginners and experienced players. The built in tuner is so exact and so simple to use. Its easy on the wallet. Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I had an old Peavey Vypyr 30 that I thought was awesome. Until I spent time trying to use it. It was frustrating in all ways. I borrowed a friends Line 6 Spider while he was out of town and fell in love with it within a half hour. I was playing guitar and trying settings and effects. I got back to the sound I wanted in a flash. Something that would taken a long time on my old Peavey. This Line 6 Spider is the amp I need and the amp I can live with until my olden days in my living room. For shows I have other big amps and a stack. For practice, this is the amp to have.

Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

The Spider IV 30 does exactly what it claims it can do, which is exactly what I need it to do. It's a versatile little amp that makes up for its limitations by delivering flexible and adequate options. I won't be playing any high volume gigs with it but, together with my Line 6 Variax, it gives me all the options that I need for quiet to moderate volume practice.

Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I got tired of dragging out my Marshall half stack and pedal board every time I wanted to play. This little amp is great. The output from the 1x12 is plenty loud and the effects work well. As stated previously I would highly recommend buying the footswitch with the amp. It's a bugger changing channels by hand and it's not a smooth transition. When you do change to another channel or tone selection the volume cranks up about three times louder. I used to have a Line6 150w. and it did the same thing. All in all I would recommend this amp for practice or if your a beginner the features will save you from buying all the effects pedals.
For a practice amp this has all the features you would want and they all work pretty well. I would HIGHLY recommend buying the FVB footswitch because it's very un-smooth switching channels manually and when you do the volume cranks up three times louder.
Everything works fine and the quality is there.
How can you beat this price?

              Spider IV

Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I would strongly recommend purchasing the Line 6 Spider IV 30 watt combo!
This amp has some great features. I really like the reverb it sounds very natural. It also has great tone! I can really get a nice clean sound at 30 watts!
I was really surprised at the quality of this amp. I was very impressed it using the Celestian 10' speaker that can really handle the power.
I was also very impressed with the value! I think this a great deal for such a versatile amp.

              Good Amp - Features Limited

Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

This Line 6 is a solid amplifier with great tone and volume -- IF you are familiar with amplifiers, DSP, and effects. The beginning/novice player may be stymied by the response of the effects modules, channel selection and other adjustments. There are preset tones for each selectable channel, but touch ANY of the control knobs and it reverts to the dial settings currently in place. Meaning the entire tone changes and you must then manually dial in a desired tone. Once a tone is found it can be saved to any of the four preset channels. Two effects dials offer six different types of effect - three each - in a rotational selection process that increases the effect as you turn the dial, but then suddenly jumps to the next effects lowest setting in a very sensitive change relay. So besides reverb, only two effects can be used simultaneously. The tap switch to increase/decrease effect response will further confuse the novice. I was quickly unimpressed with this arrangement. The sound is great, the features are good but difficult and touchy to dial in. Good amp for those in the know.
