OVERVIEW

All the vintage and modern amp tones you want.

Spinning the amp model knob on the front panel of Spider IV 30 is like browsing through a museum of the 12 most revered guitar tones of all time. Vintage British beauties, modern American monsters and more, Spider IV 30 features the historic amp tones that all guitarists are required to have in their collections. Play with sparkling clean tones based on a 1973 Hiwatt Custom 100, syrupy smooth drive tones based on a mix of a '65 Marshall JTM-45, a '58 Fender Bassman and a '63 Fender Vibroverb, British pop/rock tones based on a fawn Vox AC-30, the high-gain onslaught based on a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, and more. With one-touch ease you can access 4 channels of world-class Line 6 preset tones masterfully dialed in by pro players. Plus, each channel also stores 4 complete amp settings of your own creation. Create, save and recall amp model, EQ, gain and effect settings with the push of a button. I have a 50 watt tube combo and a 100 watt tube head and was looking for an amp I could practice with late at night or with headphones.

I've tried the Blackstar HT-1R and the Yamaha THR10X and was not happy with either. The Yamaha made a 'farting' sound whenever I would palm mute, even at the lowest volumes. The Blackstar almost met my standards until I discovered the the reverb doesn't quite cut all the way out even when it was on 0.

I had purchased a Line 6 Spider IV 15 watt a few months ago and wasn't please with it as it had the same 'farting' sound with palm mutes and I took a leap of faith that the 30 watt could handle it with the large celestion speaker. Well, I was right. Not only does it handle the heavy palm mutes, the Metal and Insane Red and Green versions all produce different chugging sounds. I should mention that I don't put this above maybe 20% volume because it does get loud for indoors, and I don't know if the higher volumes could maintain the sweet chugging sounds.

I love the sounds this modeling amp puts out, especially the Red Metal channel and the Green Clean.

Can this be used for gigging? No. That isn't what this is designed for, but if you are looking for a great practice amp at an affordable price....do yourself a favor and pick this one up. I rarely write reviews, and this amp has my mark of approval.

I ordered this thing to honestly, hold me over until I could get a better amp (decided to pick up the guitar again after a few years of letting work take over my life). I knew I wasn't going to be getting anything immaculate for this price, but I did expect better than this. If you like that shredder, overdone dirty sound, you'll get it with this amp. It seems to me like they spent way too much time putting as many effects as possible on this little guy instead taking that time to put something together that had A MORE QUALITY SOUND. Also, the volume levels never stay the same when turning it on and off (I'm really not imagining this). I'll have it at a comfortable level, turn it off, and the next time it's turned on it will sound maxed out (literally just have to inch one of the volume knobs down and back up a hair and it will go back to the level It was at, not a big deal, but it's annoying and I've never had any amp do that). I don't know where anyone gets off saying this is good for recording or performance...I would be embarassed to show it off anywhere. Thank goodness I am getting a new amp in just a few days, this thing blows. I would never recommend this to anyone who actually has an ear for music.

Great Little Practice Amp For The Money

By Quanah

Comments about Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Have had this amp for about 2 weeks now and so far no issues and everything is working great on it. I bought this amp just as a small bedroom practice amp so I didn't have to fire up my main half stack every time I just wanted to keep it mellow and not wake up the kid. The headphone out jack is great for late night jamming with your iPod plugged into the AUX in!!! I also wanted something light and compact to take to practice once a week again without loading up my half stack and pedal board every time. This amp seems to be built very solid and all the knobs and buttons are pretty basic and don't feel cheap. Some of the pre amp settings sound alright out of the box but if you are an experienced player you will definitely be changing these to your preferred custom settings anyway. But, great for beginners to have something to start with and build their sound from. I like how all effects are built in and with the MKII Express short board, (a must have to switch channels, tune and for wah) I bought it makes packing and taking this thing around with me very easy having no extra cables or batteries to worry about. This little 30W gets pretty loud I must say, not enough to do a medium or outdoor gig with, (unless miced through a PA) but definitely good enough for a small practice room or just jamming along to some tracks with your PA. Our drummer plays very loud and is a hard hitter and in our medium size space this amp can be heard but not way out in front. I play Hard Rock and Metal so when cranking this thing it does alright but obviously not anywhere as good as my 50W Blackstar tube amp. All in all for the money this amp is great with all the features it comes with and I will see how long it lasts before deciding if I would buy another one?

Jury still out after one month (amateur, occasional user)…am I hearing a dirty background sound developing in the clean settings? Not sure…
Regrets. Wish it had a manual override button… the larger models do.

This is a great amp it is so easy to use. it took me a little time to master this amp, and if you are the type that needs a bit more time to figure out amps this amp comes with 12 sounds already built in and it came with a paper with 3 awsome sounds that you can dial in yourself. It is built really strong and looks beautiful. This is a great choice for beginners and experienced players. The built in tuner is so exact and so simple to use. Its easy on the wallet. First off, to all those praising this amp for it's metal + insane sounds, you obviously haven't heard a 6505+ roar in your face. It's great for playing jazz, country, and blues. I recommend it to no one for metal and rock. As a picky guitar player, I only praise the headiest, warmest, tightest sounding amplifiers, this amp did not meet my standards.

I love how well built and solid this amp is. The sounds are great and you can really tweak it for the tones you are looking for.

My only gripe is that sometimes the bass is so low that it sounds like your speaker will blow. I am always having to turn the bass knob down.

If you want a good affordable amp that is well made and has great sounds this is the one to get.
The effects are all very well done also.

Comments about Line 6 Spider IV 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I had an old Peavey Vypyr 30 that I thought was awesome. Until I spent time trying to use it. It was frustrating in all ways. I borrowed a friends Line 6 Spider while he was out of town and fell in love with it within a half hour. I was playing guitar and trying settings and effects. I got back to the sound I wanted in a flash. Something that would taken a long time on my old Peavey. This Line 6 Spider is the amp I need and the amp I can live with until my olden days in my living room. For shows I have other big amps and a stack. For practice, this is the amp to have.
