OVERVIEW

Be a part of the Marshall story with this 85th Anniversary head.

Since his birth in 1923, Jim Marshall has changed the world of guitar music forever by listening to the needs of guitarists, incorporating them into amplifier designs, and developing some of the most cutting-edge and familiar tones ever recorded.

The 1923 85th anniversary amp head commemorates Dr. Marshall's 85th birthday celebration. Based on the legendary JCM 2000 Dual Super Lead platform, the 1923 head features 50 watts of EL34 power and that distinctive Marshall tone. The front panel is finished with a custom color print design incorporating both the 85th Celebration logo and Union Jack flag. Every guitar amp head is constructed using high-grade Baltic birch plywood for superior sonic performance and durability.

Great Amp!

By Randy

Comments about Marshall 1923 85th Anniversary 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I play everything from jazz standards to heavy rock and my amp has to be able to keep up. This one can. I can get smooth smokey jazz chords and sizzling violin like sustain and everything in between with this amp. The voicing on the ultra gain channel works well with any of my guitars and I can get all the variations in tone I want from any of them. The classic gain channel has too much base boost for my taste but it does offer more tonal variations for those who are interested. I will mod mine so the classic and ultra gains channels have equal voicing and then it will be perfect for me.
Ths amp is set up near perfect for me. The range from clean to any level of distortion I need with excellent tone all the way is there with this amp. I love the spring reverb too. The only reason I can't give the amp a 10 here is because the clean channel has too much base boost compared to the ultra gain channel which makes it unusable with the neck pickup on any of my (many) guitars. The cabinet booms too much. Also you can't switch cahnnels and take advantage of the too different gain level settings when the eq changes so radically bewteen the classic and ultra gain channels. Each channel has two gain setting but the level changes between the two and requires re-adjustment after switching. Luckily I can fix the voicing issues on the classic channel with a few easy mods.
Typical good Marshall quality but they are skimping on tube shield covers and the power tubes now have clips like the fenders use. Only the first pre-amp tube has a metal shield. I don't hear any more noise compared to my older JCM 900 though. Maybe even a little quieter.
No amount of money savings can account for an amp that doesn't turn me on. This one deffinately does.

THANK YOU MARSHALL

Comments about Marshall 1923 85th Anniversary 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Owned this amp now for two months, i decided to write this review for all those people saying that marshall are ripping us off by just tarting up a bog standard dsl 50 and charging us mega bucks for it.i've also owned a dsl 50 for the last eleven years, the two are quite alike "except" for the fact that the 1923 is far more smoother, crunchier, fatter, creamier, dynamic and responsive. i certainly don't feel ripped off. it looks amazing and sounds amazing... i'm one happy musician..

Versatile

Comments about Marshall 1923 85th Anniversary 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Past reviews are correct, this amp is not for metal heads but vintage & blues freaks will get goose bumps! While this amp has 2 channels, practically it is a 4 channel amp because each channel converts from clean to crunch and from lead 1 to lead 2. The clean channel is amazingly clean for you blues players. You can get very close to JCM800/900 tones as well as some JVM tones and JCM 2000 tones spot on! ... Very versatile! These 50 watts will shake the walls of a medium sized venue. Recommend running a Marshall 1960 or 1936 cab with this amp for sweet leads, thundering crunchy rhythms, and chimmy R&B grooves. Adapts well to most pedals. This amp is the recreation of the DSL 50 watt, too bad Marshall jacked up the price ... still, it's worth it.

Comments about Marshall 1923 85th Anniversary 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this head because I wanted something as close as possible to Jeff Beck's tone, he uses a 50w DSL and this amp is basically just that. Clean/crunch channel is very versatile, gain/ultragain is KILLER Marshall tone baby! This thing gives me the tone that previously was only in my head...BUY IT!

WOW!

By RickPlayerSC

Comments about Marshall 1923 85th Anniversary 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This is not a JCM 2000. Okay, I play a H&K Triamp 2X15 & 2&15 and a Fender DeVille 4X10. I love my tone... But wow! This thing has some punch. I played it with the 1960's leads as it is pictured with, and I want one bad! This thing has the kind of tone that you feel with. ultra clear, nasty thick mud to crystal light. It has a "fat" button that drilled in the low's but if you want leads it is there. I think this thing has more versitility than my triamp which is totally loaded. I will own one of these things sometime, either down the road or immediate future. I highly suggest you play one. Probably not for metal heads. But Classic/ Vintage Tone people, this puppy is an absolute treat!
