This thing is a beast! It should be kept behind a pane of glass with a sign that says: "In case of electric guitar emergency….break glass!" This is the most versatile tube amp out there. If you can't find a sound you like on this amp, then you are impossible to please. The reverb is great. It will be fine for you, unless you play in a 60's surf band, but no one uses reverb like that anymore! Yes, the stock speaker must be broken in. The clean is amazing and stunningly crisp and quiet. This is like the Swiss army knife of amplifiers. You can use it for home practice, studio use, jamming with a band or playing an outdoor concert….if you drive a 4-12 cabinet with it.
It is amazing that any amp manufacturer can offer a product of this quality and versatility for this price. It is made in the far East…………….SO WHAT?? So are cell phones…and they are way more complex than a guitar amp. If you get this, you will never need any other amp…..no matter what style of music you play. People on here who are whining about the speaker, the reverb, the tubes or some other stock part of this amp: GET A CLUE!
Go and get a fender hot rod or blues deluxe, which cost more by the way, and then spend more money on pedals, and you still won't sound nearly as good as this!!
If you are truly an artist…..this is a wonderful blank canvas!! If you want a blank canvas, made in Europe or America…than spend the additional money and get it, but make it your own! Put in your dream speaker, tubes, mods, reverb or whatever else and make it your own! But please quit whining about this amp not being perfect…..nothing is. If this was made in England and cost $1200, you gear snobs would be just raving about how great it is!

Comments about Marshall DSL40C Limited Edition Vintage 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

From another review: "One bummer, you can't run the on board speaker and an external speaker at the same time."

I believe this is inaccurate. The 16 ohm on-board speaker is connected to a speaker cable that plugs into the amp like any other speaker cable. If you plug it, and another 16 ohm speaker (or cabinet), into the amp's two 8 ohm speaker jacks, you'll be using the amp in one of its intended configurations. This is described in the owner's manual.

Comments about Marshall DSL40C Limited Edition Vintage 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp has too much gain, too much trouble, and too much bass. That's why it's great, it doesn't leave you wanting more. I've had it about a month now and I think it is just great. It's hard to have a bad setting, the amp always sounds good. I love the way it looks, I love the way the knobs feel. With all the settings you essentially have 4 channels, plus the tone shift button you can really dial in what you are looking for.

A few gripes I have heard are that there is not enough reverb. If if you bought this amp I'm sure you already have a decent reverb pedal, anything you need beyond what the amp is giving you should be handled by a reverb pedal anyways.

I've read the Lead channels have too much treble when you switch from clean to distortion, I have not found that to be the case. The amp has a lot of treble (especially before the speaker breaks in) but you can eq it to your liking. If you can't balance the clean/lead eq then this is not the amp for you. Some people are happy doing c19 mod to lessen the trouble on the Lead channel, I don't think it's necessary. Some people have said swapping out for a different speaker resolved the issue.

I've heard the clean channel is not equal to other brands, but I do not agree with that, the clean channels are beautiful and unique. If you prefer another amps clean channel than get that amp. The clean channel is not lacking.

I played this amp, a Blackstar ht40 and a peavy 6505 60w combo before buying this. They are all great amps. The DSL40C stood out to me, it sounded good no matter how the eq was set, I really enjoyed my time with it. The Blackstar and Peavey had me messing with the eq the whole time trying to find nice settings. They sounded like there was a pillow in front of the speaker.

Here we have a great sounding amp at a great price. It cranks, it gets very loud, and sounds very good.

Comments about DSL40C Limited Edition Vintage 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

The first one I bought was "used - mint" which had a tube issue. The 2nd channel did not work at all. Anyway, swapped that one for a brand new one and couldn't be happier with this amp! The vintage look of this amp is great in person, but the tones in this thing... unbelievable. It is exactly as advertised; anything from plexi to JCM2000. I run it mostly in triode on the drive channel (lead 1) with the gain at 9 or 10 o'clock and the notes just literally leap off the fretboard. The clean channel is very impressive as well -- better than expected; big bottom end. It's definitely a FUN amp to play. Not many are. If you can't get the goods with this amp, you're probably better off in front of a piano. I'd say the break in period on the speaker was a solid 12hrs of playing at moderate volume. New speakers can be a tad tight and harsh sounding, of course, but it's all butter now. I'm going to run it through my vintage 4x12 and see what's what. Can't wait!

Comments about Marshall DSL40C Limited Edition Vintage 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I have a handful of good tube amps and this is by far the best I have ever owned or played. It covers all the ground of other one dimensional amps. My Fender amps cover clean but woefully lack in good tube distortion. This amp has it all.
The only thing I would like to see is the ability to foot switch between the two clean options and the two lead options. Getting SRV and Hendrix tones,as well as most other classic and even modern toes is effortless. I can easily gig with this with no pedals, which is the first time I have ever been able to say that. It does take pedals very well and the Fed loop works well.

This amp is the best value on the market today, bar none.

Comments about Marshall DSL40C Limited Edition Vintage 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp replaced my TSL122 when it failed. I tried Orange, Fender and non-tube Marshalls and none of them were sufficient. I play weekend bar gigs in a Rock/blues trio. THIS amp is awesome! Very versatile, very creamy on the Hendrix/SRV. If you like the Marshall sound--this is a great way to get it (settings let you choose from 4 different vintage Marshall amps). Plenty loud enough for a bar environment but it handles the clean subtle passages with ease. The vintage look really creates a buzz. The only bad part is the hiss on the high gain. All in all a GREAT amp. 9 out of 10. Not to mention it's about half the weight of my TSL.

Comments about Marshall DSL40C Limited Edition Vintage 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Bought this sweet little thing about a month ago now. Quickly found out even at half power this amp kicks like a mule in a small room. At full power, well, better wear earplugs. This is NOT a bedroom practice amp, not unless you and your family and neighbors like rattling walls and vibrating floors. As for the tone, the crunch channel NAILS the tone i was looking for from this amp with my SG. The clean channel is fairly descent, and copes fairly well with a tele for country twang. Haven't messed with the ultra gain channels much, but there are some good sounds to be found there as well. Like others have said, the celestion is BRIGHT right out of the box, but it mellows out with some use. The finishing is pretty great for an overseas built amp, and the eq, volume, and gain knobs do a great job of fine tuning the sound. The reverb isn't as good as say a spring verb, but it does fine for what i play. It seems to have a pretty good quality about it, everything from the finish and grille cloth to the switches and knobs. Its heavy, but still lighter than a 4x12. Overall a pretty amazing amp for the price. Next objective is to get a 4x12 and really test it out.

I've only had it now for a couple of weeks but this amp has great tone and plenty of gain. The reverb is a bit light but that's OK. I wanted a portable amp to take around places and also one to sit on top of a 212 cabinet that I have for bigger gigs. It seems to have plenty of strength and it sounds great. One bummer, you can't run the on board speaker and an external speaker at the same time. Not a deal breaker though. It's a great amp, try it, you'll love it.

The Vintage Look of this is Amp is beautiful and it's a very powerful unit for home use. In a large 20' x 22' room, I still have to run it @ half power. It definitely delivers on the Marshall Sound that I was looking for and the included pedal was a nice touch.
