OVERVIEW

The amp that started it all!

The Marshall JTM45 Amp Head is a lovingly created reproduction of Jim Marshall's first amplifier. Now the classic JTM45 is accessible to all who enjoy its glassy, clean tone and fluid, warm sustain.

By including GZ34 valve rectification, as found in the original, Marshall has ensured a faithful recreation of the JTM45's glorious sound. The GZ34 rectifier valve interacts with the rest of the valves causing subtle harmonics to shift and smolder beneath every note you play.

I could have saved a lotta time and money if I'd found this amp a few years ago. I've used Fenders, Mesa/Boogies, Peaveys, and other Marshalls...all were great, but nothing can come close to the tone of the JTM 45. My Les Paul and LP Jr. sounded amazing and my Telecaster...I couldn't believe it was the same guitar. Hands down, the best amp I've played thru (including vintage Fender Bassmans and Twin Reverbs). I've only got the volume up to about 6 (my neighbors probably wouldn't like me to go any higher). I'm using either a 1960A 4X12 or an MG212 cabs. One thing I will note, if you're gonna use an od pedal, you will have to take the time to tweak it so your tone won't sound muddy. If you're thinking about buying this head, stop thinking and buy it. YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!

Fabulous tone and simplicity

By jimprw

Comments about Marshall JTM45 45W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Classic Marshall tone for all but speed/death metal needs. The tone on this amp shimmers and sparkles when clean, and with overdrive and distortion stomp boxes you can get legendary Marshall sound from blues crunch to JCM 800 shred. And with 30 watts, volume is more than adequate for home and small to mid-size clubs. The tube rectification does, indeed, color this amp to be on the warmer side when receiving a clean signal. And with the overdrive this compression frames all 6 strings into a clear, but mean package. I've been playing for over 40 years and own 9 different amps - including vintage and boutique. This Marshall is, overall, the best sounding amp I have ever heard - hands down.

Comments about Marshall JTM45 45W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I'm an old professional musician. When I was a kid this was the amp the best sounding guitarists, to me, were using. When I plugged into this jtm45 I found those sounds.
Also this amp does sound so good really loud, but if you can't be playing loudly at some gigs, you can just turn it down and use pedals for overdrive and diistortion. My pedals sound better through it than in any other situation I have used them.
    Great amp...

straight on mighty marshall sound. Best customer service on the planet! If you can afford this, get one. 30 watt head running 5881 power tubes. This amp holds its own against my JCM 800 50 watt. Be advised, plexi style with no pre amp gain so you must crank it up to get the goodies. Very wide range of input tone control.

      Excellent!

Comments about Marshall JTM45 45W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I tried and bought this amp locally. The shop I bought it at let me come in early and crank it up, so I got to see what this amp could do before I bought it. And I was impressed. The tone range you get by jumping the chanels is amazing.

      Marshall better than Fender?

      By Blazecaster

      from The Open Road.

Comments about Marshall JTM45 45W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Indeed, both amps are quite well designed. But Marshall is about two steps ahead of Fender in terms of modern music sound and quality control. But this amp and the Fender Bassman are more closely related than one might think. When Jim Marshall first started tinkering with the thought of building amps, he did most of his practices replicating a Bassman. He basically copied it, Just compare the control panels! So keep that in mind when buying this amp the Fender was the original inspiration. But Marshall reinvented the Fender Simplicity and added some few choice improvements which you all of course know. The stack design, beautiful overdrive and stunning overall engineering. You cant hate Marshall. You can thank Leo for that.

Comments about Marshall JTM45 45W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This is a great amp for almost any music style. The clean is fantastic and the crunch is old school Marshall. To get higher gain or more distotion at lower volumes just hit it with a good OD pedal.

I play a Les Paul and it sounds fantastic thru the amp. But really, any guitar will sound good. The guitar tone and personality will come thru.

      Highly recommended!

Comments about Marshall JTM45 45W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This amp is very sweet, it's the best head I ever played through. Stop shopping around, buy a Marshall JTM45, you will not regret it. No frills just great tone and roar, being only 30 watts you can crank it up, and it's not going to blow your ear drums. I usually do not give reviews for products, but the JTM45 is by far the best. If people only knew what great tone is.

I use this head with a 4x12 with greenbacks, or a 212 with 75's. Plug in,jump the channels & go. I use a "Metal Zone" for leads, but not for all leads. It's LOUD, but not awful loud like a plexi. My JCM 800 is now my spare. 'nuff said!!!

Not playing professionally now but use it for jamming at home. Am very happy with the JTM 45. Coupled with the 1960AX cabinet with greenbacks creates a great sound. Both these products were returned items. Saved some money and got a good amp setup! Can't even tell they were open box items. Highly recommended!

Comments about Marshall JTM45 45W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I put kt-66 GEC nos tubes in the clear ones, yes they are $$ but worth every penny, made a few small mods and this amp is by far the best amp in the world for anything, I play Zep to Black Sabbath to Metallica to Early Ozzy with Randy Rhodes and this does it all perfectly. Nails the tone I am looking for. I am going to get a 50w 1987x next for larger gigs but this is what I am using now and it is plenty loud enough with my 1960AV with vintage 30s. I also moded the presence I put it in the back and put a volume know where the presence was in front. All of these mods were easy and relatively inexpensive besides the NOS tubes. I use a vintage MXR 10 band EQ to cut down on the highs throught the treble channel.

Comments about Marshall JTM45 45W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This is the amp that started all the fuss-and for good reason. It is a powerful "take no prisoners" tone machine.Loves single coils and humbuckers alike. If you want a forgiving amp to hide your inconsistencies/mistakes/sloppy playing....do yourself a big favor and skip this amplifier. If you play well though, and want your audience to hear EVERY NOTE you play, and in the warmest most beautiful powerful way possible, then this is your ticket.Me personally,I put a 5751 in V1- 12AX7 in V2- and a 12AT7 in V3 because I like the "semi-clean" tone it brings.I use pedals for the rest.I also re-biased for KT66 tubes;because they are so awesome in this amp.I also replaced the tube rectifier with a weber copper cap to get tighter with more headroom.I also got a weber MASS 100 attenuator-best thing I ever did-now I can crank the tubes and not make my ears bleed. And believe me when you hear the beautiful rock and roll goodness that comes from this tone machine you WILL want to turn it up to 11 and bask in it's glory. Why else would you even play a Marshall??\m/

Comments about Marshall JTM45 45W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

My new head out of the box has a nasty full volume squeal with both volume controls at zero when there is nothing plugged into the input. When I plug into Channel 1 the squeal stops and all you hear is normal tube buzzing (too loud for quiet recording). It sounds like a typically great Marshall flat out with both channels jumped. There is obviusly something wrong (bad pot, ground, tube?) but I am reluctant to send it back.

This amp has some of the most beautiful clean tones imaginable. The trick is jumping the channels and using the volumes to mix the perfect blend of both. You get bright and spanky on one side and warm and fat on the other, to taste. Tones of bass. Very useful presence control. Breakup is nice, but don't look for too much crunch when fully cranked. Great pedal platform.
