I really like this amp when it goes DI through the PA. If you're using it for a practice rig, for a small venue or for recording, you're probably going to like what you hear. For me, I needed something that would transport easily and set up quick and BINGO! that's what I get from this. I've got a big, monster rig that I use for larger stages and long engagements - but for the one-set quickies and impromptu jams - this is my amp of choice.
two channels - with blend; cool tone shaping capabilities
I found some issues with active pickups overdriving it. Even with the "active" switch activated and the compressor on I was getting fart noises until I dialed my active pre-amps back a bit.
Well - value is relative. For me, it was an outstanding value because I bought mine used at >1/2 retail. This was in a music store which had a rehersal studio in it as well. This amp was supplied to that studio, so needless to say - it probably suffered some abuse. It does still sound real nice though.

Initially, I loved this amp. It sounded great and the distortion was fabulous. Then I plugged in the foot switch, which cut off the speakers. No sound whatsoever. The dealer contacted Marshall and the amp was replaced in less than 5 days. The replacement lasted about 2 months before it malfunctioned on stage, during a gig. The sound completely dropped out, not once, but 6 times within a 3.5 hour time period. It stayed off between 30 seconds and 1 minute before returning. Took it back to the dealer, Marshall said take it to an authorized repair shop; and it's been there for 3 weeks. The good news is during the 2 months it worked, it really sounded good. Whether I keep it or not will depend on my discussion with the repair man, who's also a bass player, and whether or not he thinks it's really fixed. Bottom line...buy something else.

Comments about Marshall MB4210 300W/450W 2x10" Hybrid Bass Combo Amp:

I have used the MB4120 for about three years and I have no problems with the sound it produces. I run in combination with a Marshall 15 cabinet and have never been short on power.
The rig is reasonably portable BUT reliability is a huge problem. The original amp failed after a few gigs and was replaced by Marshall. The replacement developed a fault and was repaired under warranty. I bought the MB450 head as a back up in case the combo failed again. The head has now developed a fault..
Two amp breakdowns and one head failure in the time I have used it is unacceptable.
Marshall have been great and repaired the amps swiftly, but I have little confidence in the amps.

    Perfect Dual Purpose Amp

Comments about Marshall MB4210 300W/450W 2x10" Hybrid Bass Combo Amp:

Light, portable, powerful, and extremly versitile. I use this as both a bass and 6 string guitar amp.
This amp can be taylored to a mutitude of sounds. Only if you take the time to become familiar with all the adjustments will you really appreciate its capabilities.
Very well built - SOLID. Amazingly light for its power.
Great price for all this amp can do!

    GREAT BASS AMP

    By Joe Falco

    from Palm Beach, FL

Comments about Marshall MB4210 300W/450W 2x10" Hybrid Bass Combo Amp:

BUY THIS AMP, BUY IT NOW.
This amp is the real deal. It delivers the punch a classic rock bassist demands. I bought this from Musicians Friend about 8 months ago, and it is a dream come true. I play medium sized gigs and once in a while some outdoor stuff. Last week my band did an arena gig with a mega 70's band, no I won't name drop, but they are huge and yes, you would know them. The amp gave me everything I expected. I listened to the playback of the house sound recording, and it was pure magic. Even the Mega band's bassist commented on how great my MB4210 sounded. Now don't misunderstand, I used a cab extention and drove it to 450 watts @ 4 oms, so that added some extra punch. But extention cab aside, this amp is everything a working bassist will ever need. It is a workhorse that has not had one problem in the 55 gigs I've used it for over the past eight months, not to mention the eight hours a day my band rehearses 5 days per week. All in all I can only say, if you want a great amp BUY THIS AMP. By The Way, I play a Gibson EB-3 Bass, it's old but so am I. I'll see you on the road.
This amp is a rare bargain at any price, but at Musicians Friend's price it is a steal.

Sounds too much like a guitar amp

Comments about Marshall MB4210 300W/450W 2x10" Hybrid Bass Combo Amp:

No real bass boom, you will need a 115 cab to go with it. Mids and highs a bright, like you would expect with two 10's. Just not enough punch for my liking.

stack sound in a portable package

    By MrTwo

Comments about Marshall MB4210 300W/450W 2x10" Hybrid Bass Combo Amp:

this amp has been great, I am never going back to a stack. It is heavy, but much more portable than a stack. Sounds great, played small and medium gigs with this and never had it turned up past a 6 or 7. It rocks!

    great for practice

    By Bmen1

Comments about Marshall MB4210 300W/450W 2x10" Hybrid Bass Combo Amp:

Ok lets get one thing straight great practice amp deep low end good mids and highs would rather have a complete EQ on an amp or head though only out puts at 300 watts so you could play small indoor gigs this could be heard about 100 yards out clearly but not loudly unless you have an extension cab 8/10 would be best or a 4/15 cab which would let you play medium to large gigs and small to medium out side gigs. Marshall heads go best with Marshall cabs in my opinion.

    Disapointed in quality

    By Druuna

    from Grand Rapids MI

Comments about Marshall MB4210 300W/450W 2x10" Hybrid Bass Combo Amp:

I've had the Marshall MB421 Bass Combo Amp for 1 1/2 years along with the Marshall MBC115 extension cabinet. My plan was for a nice combo amp for practice and a 1x5 sub for jamming with friends. I like the tone but I've had nothing but problems with this amp. In my opinion, this amp sounds great (when it works), particularly combining the modern and classic channels. It has a nice punchy, clear tone and enough volume for a band setting. It's been in for warranty service twice for the same problem and it still isn't working right. The sound will cut out and the volume goes up and down and eventually goes silent. I took it to the store I bought it from and they tested it and it failed for them. They took it to the regional Marshall warranty service center here in Grand Rapids MI. It took a month to repair. They said it was a bad solder joint on the speaker. A few months later it started doing it again. This time it took three weeks to repair and they said it was a bad send and receive jack. The amp has just come back from warranty service, it's scuffed, scratched and dirty and now has a loud buzz even with nothing is plugged into it. I've had lot's of other amps over the years. My last bass head was a Peavey Mark IV that I dragged all over the country. I played night after night with that amp and it never failed. This amp is well cared for and kept in new condition. I'm 47 and I don't play in a professional band anymore. It mostly sits in my living room and has only been taken to jam at a friends house a few times. I will probably have pay to get it fixed by an independent repairman. I wouldn't buy one again.

Marshall MB4120 great old school sound

    By Papa Smurf-5ir5u

    from north carolina

Comments about Marshall MB4210 300W/450W 2x10" Hybrid Bass Combo Amp:

Have had for about a year. Had absoulutely no problems. Opened it up just for the heck to look. Everything clean neat and well layed out. Use with LTD (active) and Fender Jazz (Passive). Works well with either. Origninally use tube side but now have found blending channels gives me the best of both worlds. Sometimes use a behringer BB410 with it (bottom from hell). Sometimes add a Peavey Black Widow 15. (more growl). The bass amp I have looked for years that I could afford.
