I bought this amp mainly for recording. The 8" speaker sounds really good because of the closed back, and the low volume output makes it easy to record in a home environment. For high gain stuff I would recommend some kind of pedal, as the distortion is more of a classic rock type than metal, although it would probably be fine for hard rock too. Unlike the Peavey Vypyr which has a boomy low end which neccessitates lowering the bass and thereby creating a harsh, trebly tone; the Marshall sounds very balanced. Because it's solid state, you don't have to crank it all the way to get a good tone like a tube amp. I'd say it's a very good deal.

If you are into clean sounds then this is not the amp for you. If you play hard rock/metal then you will love the sound but... Use a distortion pedal on the clean channel. The overdrive channel is your standard solid state crunch and nothing to write home about. (The amp has an omnipresent white noise sound which becomes an annoying hiss on the overdrive channel.) The 3 EQ knobs allow for some nice tone shaping but the 8" speaker definitely has limitations. I play a Les Paul and double coil pickups pack too much punch for this amp to be of any use for someone wanting a bright clean sound. For me the biggest drawback is the rather short (47 inch) power cord which exits the back of the amp without any protective bushings. The permanently attached cord isn't very thick and is vulnerable to damage - the amp has a closed back so there is no way to protect the cord in transit. The Marshall CF Series is made in Vietnam but don't let that bother you. Power cord issues aside, this appears to be a well made product. For the price it is a really good amp but it isn't very versatile. If you are looking for the "Rhoads Crunch", this amp has it. If you are into old jazz, ala The Les Paul Trio, forget it. The bottom line is that I would recommend it to budget-minded rockers but not to jazz or country players.

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG15CF 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I purchased this practice amp because of marshalls reputation but found that it has an annoying hiss that distracts from sound quality and focus while trying to do just that, practice.
Maybe I just got a bad one. if not I hope they take notice and fix the issue.

        Ex Mesa Boogie owner.....

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG15CF 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Oused to have 2 Mesa triple Rec's and was out of the music thing for awhile after having to sell so I bought 2 of these MG's. Wanted to completely change the way I was runing my amps/sound and I still had My Boss ME-50 that ran true stereo so thats why I bought 2. The only thing I wish these had was an effects loop but it wasn't a game changer. It took me about 15 mins to dial in a good sound and I ended up using the clean channels with the Boss MT-2 Metal Zone distortion with the chorus and I couldn't be more pleased with the overall sound...exactly what I was looking for even though these aren't tube amps. The closed back on these added to the low end I was looking for. However the dirty channel is good I personally don't think it holds a candle to the clean w/distortion and churus - way more clarity with excellent pick sharpness that I never did find with the Boogie's. I only wish I would have got the next size up even though the total of 30 watts is more than enough to practice with and jam with friends. I wouldn't hesitate to buy these again and would highly recommend.

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG15CF 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I needed an inexpensive low wattage practice amp that could travel, be reliable, and generate a good tone. The clean channel is good. The overdrive channel is very good. I get a good tone with the settings on: Gain - 8, volume - 1 thru 4, bass - 8, Mid - 5, and treble - 6. The settings will vary depending on what tone you are trying to achieve.
