I have been playing as a hobbyist for 25 years and could never get the right distortion/tube sound. It is about time...this thing is great, much better than I ever thought possible. Finally a true pedal that covers just about everything I play...Blues, acdc, queen, zepplin, skynard, ozzie...all of it. If you have trouble getting the sound...this is it.

Maybe bad luck once, but twice? First box I ordered would'nt power up. I sent it back for an exchange, and a month later it arrived. I knew I was in trouble when I pulled it out of the box, and I heard a rattling noise. Sure enough it powered up, but did nothing but hum. I dont know if its MI's QC dept. to blame, or just rough handling. In any event it seems to me that if the box cant make it from the manufacturer to the customer in working order, how well do think it would stand up to the rigors of gigging?

MI Audio Finally on Musicians Friend???

The Crunch Box is an excellent distortion pedal to add to any board, it might be a little more nichey than other distortion pedals, but that's why I love to buy pedals, each one is unique in its own way. MI Audio has a great line of products, the boys down under really have a good thing going. I've played with the Crunch Box, the Blues Pro, and the Tube Zone, and all perform extremely well. This Crunch Box can go from a lower gain overdrive range to screaming Marshall stack territory. Seriously, it does what it says, and it does it well. I will say that the tone control for me is less than perfect, I wish I had better control over the bottom end, but there is a great sweep.

what a disto pedal should be

By Witness The Fitness

The MI-Audio Crunch Box has the same 3 nobs as the Boss DS-1, my previous disto pedal: volume, tone, and gain. This is sorta what the DS-1 should have been. It's got a deliciously thick crunching distortion. It packs a huge wallop. I seldom have to turn the volume nob past 12. The gain nob is the one to play with. At 5 or 6, it gives a pleasant, energetic crunch that to my ears sounds kinda retro, a la Rolling Stones' Brown Sugar. Turn the gain all the way up and this baby can wail. Only weaknesses are, if you keep the gain low, like 3 or less, rather than giving a subtle drive it just gets murky, so I also keep a Boss Blues Driver around when I want a light tube overdrive, and rock the Crunch Box for the heavier stuff. Also, the tone nob borders on useless. I keep it at 12 and it sounds great. If I turn it up all the way it's pretty similar, just a bit tinny, and if I turn it all the way down, it gets murky. Keep the volume between 9 and 12, the tone at 12, and the gain higher than 3, and you will get the best disto you've ever heard.Value-wise, it was hard for me to pony up this much for a distortion pedal, but if any was worth it, it's this one.

Rich, Beautiful Distortion

By TooManyToys-4numl

I very rarely write product reviews, but this beautiful red box has inspired me so much I was compelled to do so. To be brief, the distortion produced by the Crunch Box is harmonically rich and generates the most gorgeous useful overtones I've ever encountered from a distortion box. It's a very useful tool.

I have used this overdrive crunch box for about three months. I call it overdrive because it works much like an o/d, But this thing gets real hot real fast to blow your mind sustain. Sweet tone sweep as well, not fizzy or buzzy sounding like most distortion pedals. Gain structure and volume work exellent .Perfect for over the top lead work to stand out in a crowd. Blows me away really! Best move I ever made, my hat's off to MI audio. awesome! The search is finaly over!

MI Audio Crunch Box

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This pedal is really great. It can give you the fuzzy hendriz tones, the amazing thrash tones, and pretty much anything in between. I'm running this pedal into an old 1952 Epiphone Century tube amp combined with my TS9 and using a 1961 Epiphone Sorrento with two mini humbuckers. I get some feedback at higher gain and volume, but what do you expect with a hollowbody guitar. Holding back on the gain I get incredible blues and jazz tones with this pedal. This pedal definitley produces the most accurate marshall distortion I have heard. So if your looking for marshall tone, just dont even bother with the marshall brand pedals becasue the MI Audio Crunch Box does it better. My only complaint about this pedal is the previously mentioned presence control. I realize that they wanted to keep the size down, but they sound put the control where the rest of the control knobs are. Anyway buy this pedal! Do it!

Marshall In A Box

This is a really great pedal for any kind of music. It nails that marshall in my opinion even better than the marshall stompboxes. Combined with my tube screamer my guitar just screams!

Great Distortion!

I play a lot of church/alternative styles and this thing is GREAT. I have the v1, which has been improved with the current version 2. The gain is awesome on this pedal...you can go from very little/no dirt to almost a good fuzz level, even with the higher output Les Paul pickups. It also sounds great with a Strat, from just barely any crunch to massive over-the-top distortion. The Tone knob has been improved quite a bit in Version 2 as well. It is punchy, and clear, and it sounds awesome with a boost pedal for solos. For you P&W folks and you main stream rock folks, this is a great pedal. You won't regret this one.I cannot imagine what I would get in the same price range to replace mine. It's built like a tank, and I believe it is true bypass. No tone sucking here! Give it a try! Happy riffin...
