OVERVIEW

Not just another fuzzbox, but also a preamp!

The ModTone MT-DS Speedbox distortion pedal emulates the tones of a vintage amp or classic overdrive and is housed in a compact all metal box that can take all you dish out. It's not just another fuzzbox. It's also a preamp in itself.

The ModTone distortion pedal features a simple 3-knob configuration for overdrive bliss. Starting with a custom-tailored Tone knob, you can dial in just the right amount of sparkle and warmth while still retaining all the crunch and tonal clarity you love without a hint of noise. Next is the Drive knob and it's truly where the heart of this pedal lies. The custom-voiced overdrive circuit and proprietary gain stage setting allow you the option of getting a delicious overdrive tone from your clean amp or combine it with your amp's overdrive setting to achieve a thick and creamy lead boost that sustains for days. Last up is the Level control that allows you to select the perfect amount of gain whether your style is a touch of the blues or an all-out metal blitzkrieg.

The Modtone MT-DS Speedbox, like the whole family of ModTone effect pedals, features period-correct, vintage-style components, smooth linear taper pots, high-impact switches built for the floor and top quality jacks for optimum tonal transfer.

OK . . . It WAS the Stupid Deal of the day!!! The price was just way too tempting to pass up. Figured it was worth the chance. Even if it was the pits, i was not out much at all. Boy was i shocked. Great dirty tone! All the guys that have used my rig have loved it too. Couple of them have even picked one up.

I mainly use it live with my slide guitar. It gives it a nice grit. Crank the Gain up about 3/4, crank the tone to a lot of bottom end, and let her rip.

It's been very durable. It's made several thousand miles on my main pedal board. I expect it will make many more.

For the $$$, it's a steal!

The ModTone Speedbox has a fine tone, fine features, and fine construction. However, when I stomp the thing on, my output volume is cut by a few DB's. Unacceptable. Only when I have the gain AND volume cranked does the volume match the clean signal. Very dissapointing.

Comments about Modtone MT-DS Speedbox Distortion Pedal:

First off, the quality is noticeable as soon as you remove it from the box. The pedal has a decent weight without being overly large, it feels turbo sturdy. I'd say it has a footprint just slightly smaller than a standard BOSS pedal. The paint is GORGEOUS. The corners are smooth and rounded. The tone pots are tight and silent when turned, The quality is obvious. The in/out jacks are very smooth. Now the tone, By adjusting the tone pot you can achieve anything from grit to crunch to heavy distorted tones. The sustain is EXTREMELY EVEN. By adjusting the gain past 3 o'clock it really starts to howl, Not an over-driven scream, but an even, controlled howl. This combined with my Mod-Tone Aqua Chorus gives me the 90's grunge tone I have been seeking ever since I first imagined my ideal tone, Thanks Mod Tone for making a turbo-high-quality, affordable distortion. Thanks Musician's Friend for introducing me to my new best friend.

I really enjoy this pedal. The tone range is huge. Dirt to grit to crunch. The casing is super solid. The best value for your money.

Comments about Modtone MT-DS Speedbox Distortion Pedal:

I got this for dirt cheap on SDOTD. I also recently got a Tech 21Boost/Distorntion on SDOTD. I like the core sound of this pedal better. I also have a Way Huge Fat Sandwich and a mesa single rectifier head custom birch 4x12. This pedal makes my VOX Pathfinder 15w sound gnarly and its epic into a 50w/100w tube head. I no longer feel the need to get a tube screamer.

I've used this for live gigs and practice. I have about 35 effects in my rig and I run through three different amps. This effect plays nice with all of my other effects and is super quiet when on and when turning on/off.

Comments about Modtone MT-DS Speedbox Distortion Pedal:

Had some credit at MF and needed a distortion box. Didn't know anything about the Speedbox, but it was the right price for the amount of credit I had on account so I bought it. Very surprised at the tone. I play Classic rock through a Peavey Classic 50 head and 2-12 cabinet and it just sounds great for that.

Comments about Modtone MT-DS Speedbox Distortion Pedal:

I did my best to incorporate this into my sound, multiple times, and it just isn't meant to be... I really don't see how it could be for anybody when you consider how much it diminishes your output volume. When your clean sound is louder than your crunch, there's no point to using it for crunch! Unless you plan on exclusively using it with the Gain and Level all the way for thick, rather over-powering distortion for solos, I'd say this isn't for you. This should be a LOT cheaper with a much higher discount, and ModTone should be making better pedals than this. Get a better pedal elsewhere in the meantime.

I just had to get this to make some noise, Had the "original" Tube Screamer as a teenager, long ago... which was great w/ my Les Paul.
Now on a real nice P-Bass, adds some nice edge.
