Gives you unlimited new sounds.

The Moog MF-102 Ring Modulator is a direct descendant of the original Moog modular synthesizers. It contains three complete modular functions: a ring modulator, a voltage-controlled carrier oscillator, and voltage-controlled dual-waveform LFO. It can be used to process any instrument-level to line-level signal.

A ring modulator produces sum and difference frequencies between the audio input and a carrier oscillator. The ring modulator's LFO can be used to modulate the carrier frequency. The Moogerfooger Ring Modulator can create effects ranging from subtle tremolo to harmonically rich distortion, gong-like sounds, sweeps, swoops, and divebombs. It can be subtle, or outlandish in its use - you decide!

The Moogerfooger Ring Modulator's control parameters are signal mix, carrier frequency, LFO rate, and LFO amount. All of the ring modulator's parameters can be controlled by the great feeling knobs that beg to be tweaked as well as with expression pedals or external control voltages. Panel switches select LFO waveform and carrier frequency range. 1/4" jacks are provided for audio input and output, pedal/control inputs, carrier input and carrier output. The heavy-duty yet smooth acting bypass switch allows tabletop or floor use.

Imagine that the ring modulator's carrier oscillator is producing a 500 Hz sine wave, and your input signal is a 100 Hz sine wave. The ring modulator's output will be a complex waveform. You will hear two pitches: 400 Hz and 600 Hz. You will not hear your original input or the carrier oscillator.

Power supply is included for use with 110 VAC.

the most interesting effect that i have come across

Comments about MF-102 Moogerfooger Ring Modulator:

being a fan of the extreme and strange, i absolutely love this effect . im also a big fan of Moog, and the build quality of this unit is unquestionable. overall, it "goes up to eleven!" again, i highly recommend this to experimental musicians or sound engineers if any sort who want interesting or unusual sounds.
ring modulation, in general, is one of the most interesting effects i have found. this specific hardware is excellent. Moog makes high quality analog equipment and this effect can give your guitar or synthesizer a new dimension- from relatively subtle tremolo/vibrato to extreme bizzar mechanical effect. ring modulation at full mix level gives you not the origional signal but two signals. 1. the sum of your input signal and the frequency setting, 2. the difference of those two( simultaniously). you can attatch moog expression pedals to control any of the four main knob settings, getting a lot of really odd morphing sounds as the two output signals are shifted- or a more tremolo type effect can be evoked. experimental musicans or anyone who likes an unusual sound will love this. this effect along with flange is fequently used in sci-fi to create "robotic" voices on speaking tracks.
this module is in a metal ( probably aluminum) case with vintage style wooden sides. it has heavy duty plastic knobs for the controls and two " rocker" switches. overall the built quality seems very high, everything is ver durable. it comes with a power adaptor whos thin cable is the only part that serms a little fragile. (it also has a metal on/off switch similar to many effect pedals).
there is no getting around the fact that , like most Moog equipment, this module is expensive- but to me, its worth every penny. now that i have this i could hardly do without it. the design is simple and manual hardware controls ( with optional expression pedal control) are exactly what i want in every effect i use. the sounds you can get with it are astonishing! its fun to run any sound source through, and with a few of the moog expression pedals, is great for preforming.

    loving it!

Comments about MF-102 Moogerfooger Ring Modulator:

i'm still a metal head at heart but when i "solo" i love the avant garde etc a la wayne krantz and others that would use this sort of thing, the features are quite substantial and easy to play with, it's very sturdy etc, and although some may find the size a drawback i feel it isn't because of it's gravity on my sound, idk sounds silly to say that but tis true! the only thing i could really mark down for is that it isn't true bypass, or anything close, it seems to bleed something through in the signal when disengaged and me no likey, i plan on getting true bypass loopers so whatever, i want a second one since i have a two amp set up, and i've heard and heard about others, but this seems to be the more reasonable and worthwhile of the bunch of them out there, boutique or not so boutique, you will only enjoy this pedal if you like weirdness to come out of speakers to the point where it isn't a guitar anymore, it's not something i want all the time, from myself or anyone, but when it's the right time it's really good with this tool, thanks

    Just get it

Comments about MF-102 Moogerfooger Ring Modulator:

The coolest effect i have ever come across. If you're an average guitar bro playing Dave Matthews covers than don't bother. If you have a taste for the extreme and are willing to experiment, just buy it, you won't be dissapointed at all. I also own the Electro Harmonix frequency analyzer (also awesome), but as far as ring mods go, this is worth the xtra cash. Unlike any effect pedal you will own. I highly recommend it to anyone playing experiemtal music.

    Can't get enough of it

    By Leon-y3GfG

    from Pennsylvania

Comments about MF-102 Moogerfooger Ring Modulator:

This pedal is so much fun. It's deceptively simple to use, it sounds crazy, and it's built like a tank! I play bass professionally, and nothing is more satisfying than the combined look of shock and awe from the croud when you turn this thing on during a solo. And it sounds wicked when you combine other stuff with it. I'll turn on my distortion, set my Digitech Bass Whammy to the detune setting, and turn on my Envelope Filter. Using the Moog Expression pedal, it sounds like a wah pedal on crack! The only problem is that it's huge. With the expression pedal next to it, it takes up a ton of pedal board space. But if you're like me and won't compromise (and enjoy a healthy helping of bass wierdness), check it out.

Comments about MF-102 Moogerfooger Ring Modulator:

This pedal is pretty awesome. You can get lot of different cool sounds. The biggest problem with it is how it takes you out of tune. If the ring modulator is on the high setting it sounds cool but its just hard to match stuff up and make it sound good.I still don't fully understand how everything works and I've spent hours on this pedal just playing around with it. If your into spacey, weird sounds, this pedal is perfect.

    Tone from the outer cosmos

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about MF-102 Moogerfooger Ring Modulator:

When I first bought this pedal, I didn't really use it to make music for a while. Instead, I just played around with knobs. This guy takes a lot of getting used to, just because its so unconventional. Once you become familiar with it though, you gain the capability to create, for lack of a better way to put it, 'space music'. I like to throw in oddball riffs in my music to change things up every now and then, and the general mindset while I'm doing that is to make them sound as weird as possible. This is the pedal that will make your audience go 'wtf is that!?!'

    Moog Ring Mod

    By Jacob's Fall Bassist

    from Victoria, BC

Comments about MF-102 Moogerfooger Ring Modulator:

This pedal takes a little while to figure out, but when you understand how it works, it'll give you the craziest sound out there. The only negative aspect is that the drive setting is always activated, even when the pedal is off. All you need to do is find the drive setting where it will give you the same tone as when the pedal is not in your line-up. Takes some time to get this pedal worked into your line-up, but if you're looking for something out of the ordinary, this will let you experiment.

    Dr. Science

    By TimM

    from Pt. Arena, CA

Comments about MF-102 Moogerfooger Ring Modulator:

I'm one of two guitarists in a rock band. One guitar always covers the whole front in this genre so when you're #2 on a tune you have the freedom to color the background. This moog is a high quality instrument; clean, powerful, with the most user-friendly controls in the industry, and a high-presence analog signal. The more work I put into this thing, the more I get out of it. Beautiful tremelos, birds, Thunderbird control panels, all the ring-mod gong possibilities. Add overdrive, compression and delay and you might have the SPCA visiting. Reasons I can think of for not owning one: -It's pretty big among footpedals. -If you're singing and/or worried about the next chord and don't have the time for it. -You're playing a Moog keyboard already. I use it at all rehearsals and all gigs.
