OVERVIEW

An industry standard for tight instrument compression since 1976.

In the quest for ultimate tone, a compressor is an indispensable ally. And the MXR Dyna Comp that was produced in 1976 has long been regarded as one of the ultimate stomp box compressors ever made. There's something inherently musical in the way this compressor pedal "tightens up" a guitar signal, raising the volume of quiet notes and leveling off peaks to create rich, full bodied sustain. From country twangers to metal monsters, guitarists have long relied on the MXR Dyna Comp pedal to make their riffs stand tall in any live or studio mix.

Now the MXR Custom Shop brings back that highly sought-after sound with the '76 Vintage Dyna Comp. Meticulously researched and superbly crafted, the compressor pedal features the exact same circuitry used in the original 1976 Dyna Comp, identical in its component layout, silkscreen and handmade wire harness. The key component is the old school CA3080 "metal can" integrated circuit (IC), which yields quieter operation, greater transparency and increased dynamic range. These ICs have been out of production since the '80s, but MXR has tracked down a stash of them—enough to produce a limited run of these little red boxes of compression bliss.

The MXR Custom Shop '76 Vintage Dyna Comp effect pedal can be powered by one 9-volt battery accessed through the bottom of the pedal.

FEATURES
  • Switchcraft jacks, Carling switches and CTS potentiometers
  • Old school CA3080 "metal can" IC for optimum performance
  • Output and Sensitivity controls
  • Identical red paint and legendary MXR "Script" logo of the original
  • Housing is made of lightweight aluminum, as in 1976

With supplies limited, the MXR '76 Vintage Dyna Comp is destined to quickly become as ultra collectible as its noble ancestor. So get yours now.

Comments about MXR Custom Shop CSP028 Vintage Dyna Comp Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

Well all I have to say is I've purchase this pedal twice. It is the most quiet compressor I own. If you are looking for that log sustain sound to die for here it is. I use it on my Fender Basses to make the note last almost for ever. The absence of an led bothered me when I first got the MXR, but all you have to do is turn the volume up to see if it is on. Also a hidden fetcher the paint on the knobs is glow in the dark paint.

Sounds great

By SuperComp

Comments about MXR Custom Shop CSP028 Vintage Dyna Comp Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

I really like the CSP028. If you want the true old-school Dynacomp sound and vibe, this thing has it. The standard production Dynacomp is pretty close, but there are nuances to the CSP028 that really make it a lot of fun to listen to and play.
I'll dock it one point for not having an LED, even though the original design didn't have one.
Compared to my standard block logo Dynacomp, the CSP028 has a smoother feel with a less-jarring attack to the notes. My block logo Dynacomp feels a bit "stiffer" in comparison. With some guitars, particularly my Telecaster, it's warmer and punchier than the block logo. Finally, the CSP does't seem to be as noisy.

Bottom line: The two versions aren't light years apart from each other in terms of sound, but I can hear and feel some subtle differences.
It's not a great value at the price, but I think it's priced about right overall.

Just Get the Regular Dyna Comp

Ask me a question

Comments about MXR Custom Shop CSP028 Vintage Dyna Comp Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:

I A/B'd this with the regular M-102 Dyna Comp, and you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference. Sure, it sounds great, but the use of "rare" components doesn't do much except empty your wallet faster. Save yourself more and get the M-102.
