Great sounding pedal works incredibly IF the rest of your gear is at least decent. BUT if you are playing through a solid state amp or a fender squire you don't want this pedal. It's designed to be used with good gear. Those complaining it doesn't have enough growl for death metal must be playing through a line 6 or similarly poorly designed amp. or simply just don't know how to dial their amp in. I run it through my Randall amp (tube and yes through the clean effects loop in the back) and it gets more low end growl than i need for death metal. it's goes from heavy mud distortion to super bright distortion and everything in between. oh and you got two channels of it!!! no need for a 3 channel amp with this beast.

If you buy this distortion for heavy rock sounds - look elsewhere. I tried it through quite a few amps and it could never achieve the sounds I was after. I tested it on clean amp - Fender Princeton (solid state) and my 2 Marshalls, Valvestate 8100 (solidstate) and JCM900(tube). It is good for bluesy tones but distortion 1 when you dial little gain. When you crank the gain it gets out of control and not ina good way. It gets buzzy and lifeless. Distortion #2 (the bottom one) is totally useless. It sounds like a fuzz at max and is totally uncontrollable. Again - at low settings it gets some nice rock/bluesy sounds but nothing to write home about.Compared to other distortion units I own (Sansamp TRI-OD, H&K Tubeman), while this unit is well built and loaded with features, all the rest beat it in the tone department.

Good Distortion

By The Dude-mvIX6

I've always searched for a distortion pedal that could give me everything I desired from warm fuzzy riff's to bright lead parts along with man things in between. I use this pedal 3rd in a line of 17 pedals, using a custom guitar with lindy fralin pickups amplified with a fender bassman amp. This pedal does it all the distortion on the bottom with the bass boost enhanced is very nice I keep the gain pretty low so it doesn't get to dirty. The top distortion with the mid cut button in isn't to great, but with out it is pretty crazy, I can get sounds that sound like an analog recording, blowntube, dead battery, smooth overdrive, to shrill erie sounds, I use it most for bright lead parts. Overall I think the pedal is a winner, built well, sounds great, can't go wrong with that combination.

Mixed Feelings

By Mojo-ELDxC

Well...One Channel sounded great! The other...Not so good...or at least not to my liking...It is defiantly a FUZZ effect not a distortion! But they almost had a great product...they should have made both channels identical (using the good sound) then you could set different gain and volume levels...as if it were a 2 channel amp...then it would have been great...IMOHO.Not to knock it too badly...as far as a FUZZ sound goes it was pretty good...I just don't care for FUZZ that much...And it was very well made!!It just wasn't what I was expecting or looking for so I am sending it back.

Best bang for the buck

By Beckman

from Pinckney, MI

I have recently purchased this pedal and play it through a Peavey Classic 30 all tube amp and LP and American Strat. It sounds fantastic. There are basically 4 driven tones to choose from, which can be altered to give even more sounds. I still have to fully explore it, but it is built like a tank, easy to manipulate, and when played at a moderate level through a tube amp, I can get tones for just about any style I am looking for. I gave all fives, but based on the criteria and the price I paid, it warrants it. How many more features do you need, the quality, both build and sound are great, and since it is on sale, the price was fantastic.

Great pedal

By The Upper Decker

from Philly

I really love this pedal. It's great to be able to preset two different types of distortion. One for lead and one for rhythm. That's how I do it. But if you only play lead you can have one more crunchy then the other and really switch in between during differnt parts of you solo. This pedal give you a lot of options. You may need the right amp and even guitar for this amp, but possibly not. Like any pedal you got play with it and mess around to get the right tone. Gotta be patient. I only play through a fender deluxe 90 for live shows with a 91 fender strat with lace golds, which is not the best amp but a good enough guitar to get a good tone going. I recommend this pedal to anyone, but gotta be patient.

ONE OF THE BEST PEDALS MADE

By Prize Fighter Inferno

from Helena, MT

READ THIS BEFORE BUYING!!! This is a awesome pedal. I just got it a few days ago, and i love it. I have a Rocktron Zombie pedal and have played a Jeykl and Hyde pedal, a Digitech metal master, which are great pedals, but I like this one better. One of the reasons is because of the great price!!! You cant get a better pedal for that price. BUT READ THIS BEFORE YOU GET IT. I have a EPI Les Paul Standard and i run it through a Peavey Valveking 112, which is an all tube amp (one of the best all tube amps there is). So i think that is why some of these people have written bad reviews is because they dont have that great of a set up as far as guitar and amp go. Like the Zombie pedal I own, i think this pedal sounds good through a tube amp.

Good with the correct gear

By Adam-fSFhy

from Greenwood, SC

I like this pedal it has the good MXR quality sturdy as any Boss pedal. This is a very tempermental piece of gear. It works best as a hard crunchy distortion. I use it to do hard rock leads and its pretty good.It works like a wah the tone you get is determined by where it is placed in the pedal order. To reduce the feedback lower the gain level and use a booster pedal then run it through a noise gate. The amp you use will determine the over all tone,in my personal experience tube amps are better for this pedal.
