Compared to other overdrive pedals I've owned, the Wydle overdrive pedal had the sound I was looking for. I have the output on 10, Tone on 5 and gain on 3. With those settings, my amp really shines and sounds great. I'm amazed at how sensitive the knobs are and how easy it is to change your overall sound by tweaking a little bit here and there. If you're looking to push your amp into hi-gain heaven, pick up a Wydle overdrive, you won't be sorry.
I've tried many overdrive pedals on my Blackstar HT-5 and none have made it sound as good as the Wylde overdrive. The pedal itself is very simple and easy to use. All metal construction and three knobs, simple enough that a drummer could figure it out. You have an output, tone and gain knob. The tone is very sensitive and easy to dial in the right balance of bass and treble. The output controls the level and the gain dials in that dirty tone that everyone craves.
This thing is built to last. You can stomp on it all day and it will keep working.
It's not the cheapest pedal out there, but well worth the money. For the tone and durability alone, you could easily pay twice as much.

I bought mine over 2 yrs ago and my switch went bad as well. The switch would either cut the sound volume by half or just wouldn't switch on or off. The light remains lit no matter what. It's also a bit noisy with no sound playing and in use, but I guess that's normal for an overdrive pedal? so I bought a suppressor. I also paid way too much at the local musician store. However, when this thing is behaving properly it's a beast. I put it in front of a Marshall VS65r and I play a Hellraiser and it just made the amp sound like a true tube amp. Dirty channel and knobs all the way to 11, you can sound like the shredmaster himself. Great sound and quite versatile, I can even get a Voxy type sound on the clean channel with the gain all the way down, output at mid and treble a little left of center. If I didn't get ripped o much at the initial purchase I probably would pay to get it fixed. SO, once it's finally working and on, just leave it there, don't mess with the switch. Overall, great sound and I like what it does to my hybrid, but not reliable.

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:
You don't have to like Zakk Wylde to love this pedal. I have respect for him as a musician, but I'm not really into the whole leather and chains, lumberjack, WWF biker metal thing, or whatever. Regardless of who is endorsing it or what it looks like, the ZW-44 is one tasty sounding overdrive pedal. I think it sounds a lot like a TS-808, with a nice balanced sound that retains your guitar's fundamental tone even as you turn up the gain. Really easy to get those great early-ZZ Top tones with the tone knob around 10 O'clock and the gain knob at about the same spot. Responds well to picking dynamics and the use of your guitar's volume pot. One of the best of its kind I've tried, including a TS-808. Rugged MXR quality. Nice compact design. Even if it were neon pink, the size of a shoe box and signed by Michael Bolton, I would still dig it!

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:
Very good overdrive pedal. Probably not the best on the market, but it gets the job done. It does generate a bit of noise if you put the drive past noon, but I'm only using it to boost my amp so I keep it at about 10 o'clock. Very sturdy and high quality and I imagine it can take a beating and keep working. Most MXR pedals are built tough.
I would definitely recommend this pedal if you just want to boost your high gain amp to tighten the tone and distortion. However, if you want to use as an overdrive on the clean channel, you'll need a noise gate before the pedal and after the mic because it will get noisy.
Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:
Overall its a great overdrive pedal not over the top and its awesome i Reccomend it to anyone
I love the pedal its so simple to use three knobs and it gives great sound it really beefs up the sound on any amp no matter what channel. I read the reviews on how good it and watch so many videos of people using it and the sound was awesome so I knew that I had to buy it.
The sound really beefs everything up especially on an overdrive channel. When i played on clean then turn this pedal on it made it sound jump to a crunch settting even though i set it on clean, on overdrive it gives it that extra kick that I was looking for. The main reason I bought this pedal was to have a good overdrive pedal to kick up my overdrive a little more and bring my Zack Wylde Crybaby to life because If you get the crybaby by itself it looses the sound and gets lost in the mix but with the overdrive it cuts through the mix and brings the sound back to life so you won't be disapointed.
For the price its a great pedal its really good no matter what channel im playing on im not disappointed and along with my crybaby pedals ( dunlop zack wylde & morley mark tremonti) the overdrive gives them and extra kick

I've been on a search for quite a while now for my ultimate tone. I've always been close but I couldn't find the right OD or distortion pedal to really make it work for me, until I found this one. Truly the best sounding pedal I've ever player. Far better than my ts-9, RAT, Custom badass 78', etc.
Combined with my pedal board and my Line 6 DT25 set on the mesa setting, I'm getting an early 90's "No more tears" Zakk sound and I'm loving it. Switch it over to the clean channel and you get really nice growl. I've had tons of gear in my time and I've never felt compelled to review a product, which shows you how highly I feel about this pedal.
Youre average pedal features. Not too much to tinker with, which is what I like.
Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:
This thing sounds like a little nightmare! (In a good way) Can get anywhere from a crisp crunchy tone to a deep hard blues sound out of it, so it's actually pretty versatile. Who needs a quality amp when you got this beast, I put it through my Fender 212 and it makes it sound like a marshall full stack of Metal! Highly recommend, if you're looking into it, get it! I've never been so satisfied with a pedal.

Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:
Ok lets all remember that this is an overdrive pedal. This is designed to help out your sound and not necessarily be the end all and be all of overdrive tones. There is a reason that amps that have a clean and dirty channel cost more and the better the sound the more they cost. Distortion pedals are relatively cheap and can really help out an amp that is so-so or give a little punch to a lead so that you don't have to fiddle with the knob settings of the amp right before. With that said THIS PEDAL WILL DELIVER. Simple, sleek and with three settings that cover a wide range of sounds. I like the LED that confirms ON-OFF if you are using it as a lead boost. Sometimes you can get carried away and keep using it in the rythm sections, but the light reminds you that you are not Zakk Wylde and that maybe some of the rest of the band might want to be heard. Solid, dependable, very easy to use.

I got this for christmas from my grandmaw about a year ago and i was very excited. I started playing with it and got my tone dialed in perfectly within a few minutes. I use it a distortion pedal and a boost pedal. I get a sharp punchy tone from it and it is an amazing deal.

I've been looking forward to getting this pedal for sometime. I'm currently using it to boost the gain on my Blackstar HT-5 and wow, what a difference. I'm getting a lot more gain and it sounds heavy. I had to retire my badmonkey, it just couldn't keep up with the Wylde Overdrive.
Comments about MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive Pedal:
I bought this pedal today. I play a stock Ibanez RG350DX with a Dean Markley 90 watt amp. I've been trying to tweak my sound to what i need and thanks to this I'm just about there. When used on a clean amp it gives a great 80's hard rock sound. When in front of a dirty amp it just SCREAMS metal. There is a tad bit of hum when used with the dirty amp, but im planning on getting a noise suppressor soon so it won't bother me.
