OVERVIEW

(Open Box) Great jazz tone in a powerful and portable 1x12" combo.

Jazz guitarists are well aware that creating a great jazz tone requires not only the right guitar but also the right amplifier, and the DV Jazz 12 has been designed with jazz in mind.

For those who prefer a 12" combo, still very light and easy to transport, the DV Jazz 12 is the perfect choice. It features the same pre/power amp section of the smaller 8" version and the same clean, warm, musical sound, but the extra driver size makes it great for either intimate or louder gigs. The amp's innovative technology gives you faster attack and improved dynamic response.

This is a very nice , clean sounding Jazz amp. I would have given it 5 stars except the cabinet workmanship at the seams is not the best (on mine anyway). The Aux plug wiggles around and feels very flimsy. The on/off switch is on the "rear of the amp," The main controls are also near the rear of the amp-making you have to go behind the amp to turn it off or on. I set mine up through a switched surge protector so I don't have to get up and reach around the back of the amp every time I wish to turn it off or on. The sound is great with good head-room and almost no feedback with my hollow-body guitar. The controls are perfect for a jazz amp and give you all the controls + reverb you need for most Jazz sounds. I really like it. And it also sounds good with my PRS semi-hollow as well. Put the controls up front so you don't have to get up out your seat when playing and a more solid build on the AUX plug input, and clean up the seams and you have a 5 star amp. But these are minor things. The great sound is the major thing.

I had high hopes for this amp. First disappointment was that it is not made in Italy. Also, there was a noticeable background hiss that, combined with the noise from the fan, was distracting and took away from the sound quality at practice volume. The reverb has a chorusey thing going on which I did not really like. A good quality spring reverb would have been better (or even a regular digital reverb). Overall, it felt kind of cheap and was a letdown for me.

Comments about DV Mark DV Jazz 12 45 Watt 1x12 Jazz Combo:

So here's an update after gigging with this amp for about 6 months in a jazz setting:
- I'm still happy with it.
- The tone is in fact darker than other amps I've used. Setting it flat with the guitar tone rolled back can be too dark for some rooms and instrumentation, but the tone controls are effective and I've had no problems finding a suitable tone in every case. Guitars used with this have been a Heritage Sweet 16 with an HRH mounted pickup and an Eastman 880 John Pisano model. Also occaisionally a Cordoba "Maple 14" Fusion nylon string guitar with a built-in Fishman "blender" pickup. In other words, mostly fat-sounding humbucker-equipped archtops.
- The volume has been sufficient for every club gig that I've played with it. I've not yet taken it to a big band gig (that happens next week - I may post another update), but in 4 to 6-piece outfits with horns, it's been loud enough for comping and solos with room to spare. I've been asked to turn down.
- The open-back design is a real plus for stages with no monitors. No problem in providing enough sound to lock in with bass and drums.
- The lovely white leather-like exterior was clearly going to take a beating so since DV Mark does not offer a cover to fit, I sent the measurements off to a custom cover maker and now carry it to gigs inside a tough vinyl cover.
- I learned later that Musician's Friend's sister company, Guitar Center, has several times offered this unit for a lower price.

Perhaps the most significant result of this purchase is that my tube amps are staying home. At 22 pounds and with enough volume for any club I've played in the DC area, and flat-control tone that's warm and dark, this is the amp I take to gigs these days.

Comments about DV Mark DV Jazz 12 45 Watt 1x12 Jazz Combo:

You don't have to be a jazz guitarist to appreciate this amplifier for guitar. If you desire a clean sound, in an amp that is loud enough and super light, this is a great amp. Originally I bought and played through a Fender Blues Junior. Nice sound but lacked loudness unless you wanted distortion, which I did not. To get a clean sound with some volume and stay with a Fender you have to get into some large, heavy amps. No thanks! I tried this one out with my Gibson Les Paul and it was a most pleasant surprise. I use flatwounds and aim for a mellow tone. My style is blues, folk style, and some Memphis flavored R&B. This amp is perfect for that sound. Highly recommended!

      Great Service from MF

Comments about DV Mark DV Jazz 12 45 Watt 1x12 Jazz Combo:

Ordered one of these about a month ago for use in a jazz trio. I liked the sound but there was an odd buzzing noise on low notes. Called MF and described the problem. They immediately offered to replace the amp and e-mailed me a pre-paid UPS label. All I had to do was box it back up and drop it off at UPS. A little over a week later, the replacement arrived. No more buzzing noise and the internal fan (which some folks have said is noisy) was almost silent. I suspect the first amp was damaged somehow in shipping, but MF exceeded my expectations with their quick service. Thanks!

Comments about DV Mark DV Jazz 12 45 Watt 1x12 Jazz Combo:

Bought this on a whim glad I did, great warm jazz tone best I've had in my music room. Other amps owned henriksen 12 didn't like the eminence driver, still own fender twin, roland jazz copy,dr. Z Carmen ghia. All my archtops Gibson 175,Ibanez gb10, D'Angelico ex-ss ooze that syrupy warm tone. It's surprisingly light and very good quality plus it's cool looking. Great for jazz but not much else. Great value,
I don't play in a band but guess this would be great for small gigs.

Comments about DV Mark DV Jazz 12 45 Watt 1x12 Jazz Combo:

Really warm round sound from this amp. Sounds great for jazz and blues. Also seems to sound best with humbuckers. I get awesome jazz tone with the neck pickup on my LP and Dot. But I haven't been able to dial in a good sound on my Strat. It seems to cover up the true sound of the Strat and won't give that really transparent sound characteristic of single coil pickups. So if you play jazz/blues or similar styles with clean tone you will probably like this amp. It's super dark. Just doesn't seem to be able to cover all sounds is all.

Beautiful sound, makes my Gibson L5 sound warn and natural. A fraction of the weight of a Fender Deluxe or Vibrolux. Only complaint , the digital reverb is not as lush as a vintage Fender or Ampeg. Reverb decay time is a bit short also. Other than that minor issue a great value.

Comments about DV Mark DV Jazz 12 45 Watt 1x12 Jazz Combo:

This is a remarkably light weight combo amp that delivers a good jazz tone at moderate volume. It went to its first gig yesterday, a jazz quartet with drums, upright bass and tenor sax backing a female vocalist in a small club setting. The gig went well and the amp did its job. The open back design allowed the sound to spread to the other players more than the closed-back cabinets I've been using lately, which was a plus. I found the tone to be warm - to the point that at one point I had to roll off more bass and add more treble than I'm accustomed to. No problem getting a good tone for the room, but I'm going to have to do a few more gigs with this amp to see if this is typical of this amp, or an artifact of last night's room resonance. So far I'm liking this, but the price point puts it square the the competitive range of several other jazz-suitable small amps including my go-to favorite, a Quilter Ultra-light Eight, and another very capable jazz amp, the Fishman Loudbox Artist (yes, I know it's an acoustic amp, but it seems to love arch-tops). Best feature - all that good sound in a very light package. What would I change? Well, that beautiful white exterior is probably going to start showing dirt and wear very soon - I wish this amp had come with an amp cover as did the Quilter.

Comments about DV Jazz 12 45 Watt 1x12 Jazz Combo:

First, I play a wide variety of music; I perform in country bands, play old swing and jazz tunes, some blues, and a bit of rock and roll. I've been using a Blues Jr., which is a good amp, but it just wouldn't get loud enough without distorting a bit. Nice for blues, not so much for country and jazz chording. This amp is louder clean, and though some say it's only suitable for jazz tones, I can get a clear, fairly bright sound with my strat and tele that works fine for country too. Very light, easy to carry, nice looking, simple, intuitive controls. The ever is a little disappointing, too fast a decay for my taste, but bearable. There is a little fan noise, but nothing you notice at a gig. Glad I got it.

The DV Jazz 12 combo amplifier enables you to play clean, with lots of headroom at a very good price. Jazz isn't its only application. Good bedroom or small venue amplifier that can get loud when called upon. XLR out is a plus. If you like to distort sound and think using lots of gain is cool, this amplifies is not for you. The DV Jazz 12 is like a mirror. It reflects the playing skills that you have.

Awesome combo. Great alternative to a heavy tube amp and equal in sound quality only different. It has a ton of bass which I love and is also quite accurate in the highs and pretty good in the mids. It has a beautiful natural reverb from the deep cabinet and is very light. You can't do much better than this tone machine, it is super solid for the bassy jazz tones for which it was built, and is very formidable for other stratty, bluesy clean tones as well. If you want a small, portable combo for bedroom practice or small jams or gigs, this thing is awesome!
