I actually own the 5150 2x12 combo. I play speed/thrash metal and it is by far the heaviest, hardest hitting, most articulate amp I've ever played! I bought used from a store here in my city and I run it through my Randall warhead 4x12 cab and it just decimates everything within a 5,000 mile radius! I am planning on buying the actual 5150II head eventually though, cuz even though the combo is brutal, I feel I need more power! But the tone is just insane, it hits harder than my old Warhead, it's way more articulate and a lot less noisy than any other high gain amp! I was gonna get Marshall JCM but then I played the 5150 and I lost total respect for Marshall amps, even though I'd play a marshall over a Mesa/boogie any day!(mesa/boogie sucks!!!) I downtune my guitar to standard 'C' and I can boost the hell outta my mids and still have all the bone crushing crunch I need! It is a very unique tone capable of any sound desired! Buy this amp and if you don't, you're not a guitar player!

It is an extremely basic amp head. Not much tone change no matter how its adjusted even with the crunch button depressed. You will have to spend several hundred more in effect pedals to get the sound you want. If a simple sound is all you need thatn this is great, but if you're creating originals then a Marshall is better.

Great amp for every type of style! The clean channel is awesome as long as you use a compressor. The gain channel is absolutely ripping! So much power that I'm scared to turn the post past 4 as I think it could destroy my drivers! I set the pre to 10/bass to 7/mid to 2/ high to 7/ post to 3/ resonance to 5 and presence to 5. Turn off the compressor with the gain channel. Also have a BBE sonic maximizer/ Boss EQ/ Boss noise gate in front. Just make sure your family isn't at home when you crank it! What a gas...

    Very Impressed

I bought this amp a few weeks ago because I played everything I could get my hands on and 5150 II was best. It rips it is so responsive and has way more gain than you could ever need . Only complaint is the clean channel really is pretty bad but that's not why I bought it. Overall killer metal amp.

    Great Amp

I own one of these tone monsters and it is the best amp I have ever used. I am over happy with it. I apply it for Hardcore music and it does more than enough for me. The tone is just out of this world

    beautiful tone

Wonderful sounding amp. Very heavy and well built, which pays off for an unbeatable sound. Next to marshalls and mesas, this thing wails, there is nothing that sounds as good as this thing cranked.

All I have to say is WOW! I played through this amp ONE time and I'm hooked. I have a Marshall AVT combo and a line 6 amp, and neither of those can touch the tone this amp puts out. So much distortion, I back off the pre-gain knob. Just flat out mean on the lead channel.

Just bought this amp and it's pretty phenomenal. Powerful and beautiful sound/tone. Due to cash constraints I'm relegated to using a 10yr old crate 4x12 cab for a couple mos. I couldn't believe how good it sounded through these old crappy speakers. Some have compared to the top-line Marshalls & Mesas, which I cannot attest to since I've never tried them, but at this point I'm not even tempted to try them. The overdrive you can get from this amp is unreal and if you toy with the rhythm channel enough you CAN get a good clean sound. You will have to buy at least a reverb/delay pedal as the head does not have any effects, but don't let that sway you. This amp is a monster, and the effects loop is footswitchable and works nicely. The description says this is a 2 channel head, but essentially you have 3 because the combining crunch-channel is also footswitchable, but does not have independent level or e.q. controls.

    EVH, what else?

No need for any over drive pedal, period. Clean channel is great. Crunch channel is very useable. A versatile amp for any style.

this amp tears mesas and marshalls to shreds. if you play hardcore, (In Flames, Atreyu, etc.) this is the only amp that will do. All other amps, with the exception of Bogner (too expensive, lower life expectancy) just come up short. more volume and distortion than you will ever need!

I bought this amp about 2 months ago and it's the only amp that i'm still satisfied with. I'm really picky about my tones and the 5150 II punches out the right kind of tones for Metal, Hardcore, and anything else where you need some heavy sounds. I use a Marshall JCM 900 cab with Vintage 30 speakers in it and it sounds phenomenal. When you crank the gain your tone does not break up at all. I recommend this amp over any other amp.

Eddie can do no wrong !!!

I never cared for Peavey products until Eddie Van Halen signed on. The Wolfgang guitar is the sweetest thing I have ever played. I just bought the 5150 II head to complement my Wolfgang and once again perfection comes to mind. If you love the famous Brown sound or you are looking for an amp to play some down right heavey guitar then this head is for you.I hope Eddie can duplicate with charvel with what he has done at Peavey.
