Comments about Peavey 6534 Plus 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:
If you are reading this then more than likely you are trying to decide between the 6505 or the 6534. I can offer a unique perspective on this since I owned them both at the same time for about the space of 8 months. Played through the same cab(Marshall 1960 bv, Vintage 30's) and guitar (Gibson Flying V w/500t PU)also Gibson Les Paul Traditional w/Dimarzio Super Distortion). There were 2 other reviews on here that stated that the EL34's(6534) crunch and the 6L6's(6505) sizzle. I would very much agree that that is about the best way to describe the difference between the 2. Both have more gain than anyone would ever want to use and both have incredible tone. So basically it boils down to if you like crunch or sizzle better. After 8 months of having both I decided I liked the crunch better and sold the 6505 and got another 6534 for backup. In closing I would recommend if you are scooping your mids go with the 6505 if you like to keep your midrange then go with the 6534.
Comments about Peavey 6534 Plus 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:
The tone is fantastic on all three channels. A built in noise gate would have made it a ten!
I've had the 6534+ for about 6 months now and love it! It has an abundance of gain and it is all usable. The clean channel is greatly improved over the 6505+, and the crunch channel is fantastic! While the noise was greatly reduced over the 6505 series, it would have been nice to have a built in noise gate like the JSX had, but that's easily remedied with a pedal or rack unit.
Just like the rest of the 6505 series, this thing is built like a tank.
Sounds better than amps that are almost twice the price!
Comments about Peavey 6534 Plus 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:
I've always liked the 6505/5150 series, but I'm an EL34 guy, so I was missing that crunch. I always thought the 6505+ was to "sizzly" and this amp totally remedies that. The clean channel is greatly improved over the 6505 as well, actually that was probably the most unexpected thing about it for me, it's really good. All in all, the amp is a whole lot more versatile now in my opinion. I play it through the new 430 cabinet which I saw on a youtube video shoot out. The combo of the head and cabinet are unbelievable, simply fantastic. You will be happy with this amp. Oh I forgot to mention, 100% built in the good ol' USA! Keep Americans working, people!!! Boom, WINNING!!

For those who are frustrated with the lack of info on this amp let this be the voice of reason you have been looking for. This amp delivers. All the midrange guff you missed in the 6505 is abundant here in the 6534+. Make no mistakes the amp is still a very capable metal monster but where the 6505 had sizzle this amp has crunch. The 6505 was a great amp but lacked punch and definition. The amp really kicks you in the chest like a marshall but still delivers all the high gain saturation you would come to expect from an amp carrying the 65XX badge. And unlike marshall amps like the dsl and tsl the gain is usable all the way through the sweep of the control. Lots of note separation within chords and a new found clarity I think people will find refreshing. The clean channel is also very capable now. This truly is the amp peavey should have made in the first place. If you love you 6505+ but just felt there was this little something missing, that something can be found here. The amp is still pretty noisy but is improved over past variations. The only thing I would have asked peavey to do would to be to add a noise gate on the back panel like they use on the JSX and the upcoming xxx II only they put it right on the front with those. Id also like to see a more usable range in the presence control as it is similar to the original where it really is only effective at the last 7% of travel. Otherwise peavey knocked it out of the park and into your grandmothers coffee cup.Guitar used: Carvin Ultra V with dual emg 81 humbuckers
Comments about Peavey 6534 Plus 120W Tube Guitar Amp Head:
Admittedly, I didn't buy this from MF, I had to have it sooner and got it at my local dealer. Anyway, I was really curious what the difference would be with the EL34 power section, and it's just what I was looking for. The amp breaks up differently than the 6505+, maybe a little earlier. The gain now has a bit of a Marshally type of element to it, compared to more of a Mesa-ish tone on the 6505+. Bottom line, built like a freaking tank, awesome tone (including a highly under-rated crunch rhythm tone IMO), Made in the USA. Win, Win, Win!
