Peavey

All-tube, 100-watt amp head that specializes in innovative versatility and timeless, brutal British tone.

Peavey's Butcher 100W tube guitar amp is a 2-channel amplifier with 5 - 12AX7 preamp tubes and 4 - EL34 power amp tubes. Both the Clean and Crunch channels feature independent 3-band EQ, plus master volume and preamp gain controls so guitarists can adjust the interplay between the preamp and power amp on each channel for an array of gain possibilities.

Both channels on the Peavey Butcher tube amp head include a separate, footswitchable gain boost, while the Crunch channel also has a 12-way Punch selector that adjusts the low-end attack of the amplifier—a handy feature that helps match the amp head to various speaker enclosures.

The master section on the Peavey Butcher amp head widens the range of possibilities with 2 footswitchable master volumes, so players can set one as a default and use the second as a solo boost; a patented Presence control that boosts the extreme high frequencies, giving the amp extra cut; and high and low gain inputs.

On the Peavey Butcher's rear panel, the built-in Peavey MSDI microphone-simulated XLR direct interface eliminates the need for miking by allowing users to send the amp's signal directly to a recording device or mixing console. Additional controls on the tube amp head include a line out with level control; active effects loop with send and return level control; impedance selector; half-power switch; and a tube bias adjustment jack.

Comments about Peavey Butcher 100W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This amp is great for Classic Rock, Hard Rock or Classic Metal. It would require an OD pedal for serious Hardcore stuff, but you'd be looking at other amps for that. The clean channel has decent headroom but starts to break up fairly early like a Marshall would (which is fine for me). I think you could get some nice overdriven Blues tones out of it without much trouble on the clean channel. The crunch channel is, in a word, AWESOME. I've owned and played a lot of different amps including Fenders, EVH 5150, Peavey 6505, Marshall JCM 2000, Mesa Mini Rectifier, Egnaters, etc, etc. Like most of you reading this, I'm always searching for THAT tone. I play hard rock/metal and was concerned that this wouldn't have enough gain. For what I play is has plenty of gain - without an OD or Distortion box. It's hard to go on just someone's review as hearing is believing, but this has much more gain than I thought it would have. Anyone want to buy a JCM2000 DSL? Great classic head, but this Butcher head has replaced it.

Only one thing to be concerned about: this is one heavy sucker.

Probably no way around the weight so, great job Peavey!

Comments about Peavey Butcher 100W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

If you like the sounds on the first Chickenfoot album then this is the amp that created those sounds. It's the brain child of Joe Satriani and what was supposed to be released as the JSX 50. The only difference between the Butcher and the JSX 50 is that Joe's original amp was a 50 watt. Also there was some back and forth before Joe released it as to whether or not EL-34 tubes were going to be used or 6550's. I also have a Peavey 3120 and I really like them both. But this one is my favorite of the two.

Comments about Peavey Butcher 100W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've been searching for the sound in my head for years! And i finaly found it with the butcher. I can get sounds ranging from the 60's to the 90's exc. The Stones 'Hendrix' Skynard' Zepplin' ZZ Top' Poison' Randy Roads' Metallica' Megadeth' STP' Soundgarden' Just to name a few however you will need an overdrive pedal to get the heaver stuff such as metallica for exc. I highly recomend this amp if you grew up in 80's and 90's like me and like to play the music from them time's. I've tryed the 6505 and the triple xxx and both are amazing amps but they just have to much gain for me and with the gain set at low settings on tho's amps to my ears it's just not the crunch sound I like to here. The Butcher is what it is a great american made classic rock tube amp. If your on the fence trying to decide look no ferther buy it you can't go wrong.

        My new favorite amplifier

Comments about Peavey Butcher 100W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Took a chance on this one, didn't really know what to expect but read these good reviews. I have to say, I'm really blown away. Why would you buy a "Marshall" made in China or a Blackstar made somewhere in Asia for the same money when you can buy this amp which captures that British sound perfectly and it's made in the good old USA! The punch control is ok, nothing to write home about but it does work. I like it best with a single coil for punchy leads, no pun intended. I use a GCX system, so having the MIDI switching ability is WAY cool! It integrates perfectly and I can use this without the included footswitch, I just have it programmed into my presets. The tones are absolutely gorgeous if you understand the cleans are like Hiwatt, not Fender. It's not so much for metal, but if you play a Paul you can get pretty darn heavy. I can't say enough, this amp is great!
The different boost types are great!
It's a Peavey. Duh! It will probably outlast you.
Again, Peavey is probably the only company that makes PRO level gear that doesn't charge so-called PRO level prices.

        Goodbye Marshall!!!

Comments about Peavey Butcher 100W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Yup, Somehow Peavey out-Marshalled Marshall. The clean channel is really good if you don't want a really clean channel, it's actually better if you turn it up and use it for a crunch type tone. Channel 2 is what this amp is all about, though, to me. It's Angus, it's Jimmy, it's big and fat and huge like Oprah Winfrey without the annoying hiss. It's like having a big old plate of all you can eat Sonny's ribs in Dallas! Yum Yum Yum, Win Win Win, Tasty Tasty Tasty. I love the Butcher (hate the name BTW, I think it might turn people off that thinks it's going to be like the 80's Butcher). Bottom line: GREAT AMP, made by some dude in Meridian, Mississippi who's name escapes me. Oh, yeah, Hartley Peavey! Rock and Roll HP!!!

        Rock and Roll!!!!!

Comments about Peavey Butcher 100W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Just got it and it's really great!! Channel 1 is awesome for me because I like a little overdrive in my clean signal, not crystal clean. If you dime out channel 1 you can really get a great Hiwatt LOUD sound, especially with the boost on. I've now ditched my overdrive pedals because each channel has it's own boost, AND the master section has 2 volumes, so I don't need external boxes. It's amazing to me how much tone you can gain just by taking things AWAY from the pedalboard. The loop is great and I use it in 50 watt mode unless the band is on a bigger stage (sadly not that often). All that said, I can't recommend this amp any more, it's the best amp I own, hands down, and I own about 6 USA made amps.

Comments about Peavey Butcher 100W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

dude, I got this at a store in Memphis and I am honestly blown away. This made in the USA is like a Marshall plexi, but with a great clean channel and boosts on both channels! There's also 2 master volumes so it's basically like having an amp with built in stomp boxes! I used the built in direct out and it's just fantastic. The clean channel with the boost on is VERY Hiwattish, like my old 50. Best amp I've played in many years. Great, Great, Great, Great, Great!!
