This amp does many things well. I have had this for about 3 or 4 years now. Actually bought mine used, it has been throttled by the previous owner. He used it for heavy rock. I use it for classic rock and blues. It's pretty good at what it does. Sure, it doesn't have the tone of higher end amps, but it doesn't have that price tag either. Pretty good for the money. Mine has casters on it so the weight doesn't bother me. When we play outdoor shows or bigger venues I always run it into the P.A. You have to be realistic, any amp this size will need help when playing outside or in big spaces. It has plenty of power for a medium or small venue though. And lastly, a compressor is absolutely necessary. Anyone complaining about a lack of headroom or volume probably isn't using a compressor (or isn't using their compressor correctly).......

I've been playing bass for almost 10 years, and purchased this amp back in 2001. At the time, I didn't know too much about gear, so I picked this up because I picked it up at the local music store, which all they had were peavey's and it had "200W"!! Everything back then was all about power and not tone. Looking back now, I wish I chose something else. Like many of the bad reviews, it starts to distort when you get close to 50% of the volume. It does give you a good amount control, you have your high, low, contour, bright, and the EQ, but for some reason, I can't get a good sound out of it. I own a EB musicman stingray, and with all the tweaking, I still can't get the full potential great sound out of this bass. It has good lows, but it must be the mids that this amp is lacking in. For the price, look for a fender or an ampeg.

I have purchased this bass amp last year(2009).I really love the rich and powerfull low bass in it.this bass amp has very good deep bass depth in it...Ive been playing bass since 5 yrs and for beginers this bass amp would be good...I would suggest the beginners to go for it....its quite heavy though but use Casters for it...

TnT very explosive

By RogueBassist

from Forest,IN

Well, I play this amp for my High School's jazz band and im very impressed with it. The older students told me about the freaky problems with what they hear. Obivously they don't play bass cause I found nothing wrong with it. It's just amazing!. I get really nice highs and tremendous lows even though I play a Rogue Rx100b starter bass. This amp blows me away.

great amp

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

i bought this amp about a year ago and i love it. i can litterally reach any tone i want. the enclosure is exceptionally strong (although i got a tear but fixed it) because it fell down about 5 stairs and survived (5 stairs for somthing around 100lbs. youd expect it to shatter). the only problem is how much this amp goes for. for this price youd expect a louder amp. its perfect for now but i know that soon my band is goona get louder and im goona need a new amp as opposed to just turning up. but it sounds great and really makes a difference by changing the eq and contour. if youre looking to buy this you should also buy a cabinet because this is one of the few amps that double the power by adding a cab. i love it and you will too.

i just got this amp today and it is probly the best amp ive ever played on, i had a bassist of 45 years help me with this we put it upto a fender bassman 150 and this thing sounds much better. i was sceptical when i saw it was a peavy, but now i couldnt be happy. it keeps up with a marshall 1/2 stack like nothing and could easily drown it out and then some. i play in a hard rock band and let me tell u thi is the best thing u could ever want if ur practicing or doing small gigs. overall best amp for the price.

Built like a tank

By Jonboy-P9qSx

from NC

If you have read these reviews you know this amp is heavy...85 lbs. Although that makes it hard to carry...it also feels you with a piece of mind knowing that your amp is built like a tank. The sound quality is great as well as the volume. It has a 7 bar eq on it...if you want more highs of lows or whatever..but like the other guy said "a lot of it(your individual tone) has to do with your pickups and strings". So get some emg pickups and some good strings and go to town (although those things are just icing on the cake...and are not necessary).

Not good for creaky stairs.

By Mental Hop-InSMQ

This is a nice amp for most shows with tons of thump but the problem lies with playing at high volumes. It distorts a little too easy. And as for it being heavy, all you have to do is drill on some wheels and it's much easier. But with my old band we had a show in this rundown place in Jersey. The drummer and I had trouble getting it down the creaky wooden steps because of how heavy and awkward thing is.

Great Amp

By Bob-8S2M8

I found this amp by mistake and am very happy with the peavy TNT 115. Yes, it's a bit heavy but the tone is exceptional. Plenty power for big Honky Tonks.
