I've found this combo amp to be incredibly feature rich with balanced XLR out, 7 band EQ, active/passive switching, External speaker out jack, footswitch (the actual foot switch is optional) and quite a few other useful features. So far, with a Euro Spector 5 string bass, I've been able to attain some amazing tones from this little powerhouse without too much EQ and keeping the "Low" and "High" dials in a "flat" position. I'm uncertain as to how this amp would fare at a live gig if having to rely solely on stage volume since it is somewhat compact - and I've always believed that when it comes to "Bass" and "Low end" sooner or later, you're going to NEED to move air and in order to do that, you're going to need speakers and size IF you're going to be playing at high volumes. This thing is really VERY heavy and extremely cumbersome to move around so it's only going to serve me as a "practice" amp in my home since there are no side handles or wheels on it. Overall, I'd say that this is the PERFECT practice amp and would even, most likely, be great for live gigs in very small or low volume situations.

I've been playing bass for almost 10 years, and purchased this amp back in 2001. At the time, I didn't know too much about gear, so I picked this up because I picked it up at the local music store, which all they had were peavey's and it had "200W"!! Everything back then was all about power and not tone. Looking back now, I wish I chose something else. Like many of the bad reviews, it starts to distort when you get close to 50% of the volume. It does give you a good amount control, you have your high, low, contour, bright, and the EQ, but for some reason, I can't get a good sound out of it. I own a EB musicman stingray, and with all the tweaking, I still can't get the full potential great sound out of this bass. It has good lows, but it must be the mids that this amp is lacking in. For the price, look for a fender or an ampeg.

    Does many things well.

    By Tonebender

This amp does many things well. I have had this for about 3 or 4 years now. Actually bought mine used, it has been throttled by the previous owner. He used it for heavy rock. I use it for classic rock and blues. It's pretty good at what it does. Sure, it doesn't have the tone of higher end amps, but it doesn't have that price tag either. Pretty good for the money. Mine has casters on it so the weight doesn't bother me. When we play outdoor shows or bigger venues I always run it into the P.A. You have to be realistic, any amp this size will need help when playing outside or in big spaces. It has plenty of power for a medium or small venue though. And lastly, a compressor is absolutely necessary. Anyone complaining about a lack of headroom or volume probably isn't using a compressor (or isn't using their compressor correctly).......

    AMAZING!!!!!!!

    By Kyle-pm5GI

    from Summerfield, FL

I use this bass amp every school day because I am in the Jazz band and Stage band. It is a truly amazing amp. If it weren't for the price, I'd own one already. It shakes the Jazz room an insane amount when you crank it up. It gives a very dark and rich tone. I was speechless the first time I heard it, and I still am blown away.

    GOD, LOVE, & MUSIC

    By Scooter

This AMP is a very good amp. The only negative is, the power! If it coild be turned up just a little more past halfway, it would put out very well..It has a nice tone, and quick response for a 15" speaker. It's very heavy. Everything else on this amp is great.

    great for beginners

    By metalman420-q-dV-

I love this amp combo. It is great for the beginner and not hard to use. I have used it in shows from small clubs to medium clubs. My only beef with this amp combo is that it is very heavy and they only put one handle on it which makes it hard to move around but the casters help out. There is a great range of sound from your lows to your highs. If u are a beginner I recomemnd you to buy this.

    Owned it/sold it.

    By HEAVY

This is a good amp, as everyone else has said, for practice space and smaller venues. We use it at my church, miced, and it works great. I used it out for a couple of larger venues and it distorted trying to get higher volume out of it. The sound is decent, although the EQ is weak.AND she is very heavy, but also very sturdy!

Very Durable & Reliable but heavy to carry

    By R0B

    from North jersey

I bought this amp about 6 or 7 years ago and have gigged with it relentlessly. I have to say this is the most reliable and durable amp ever. It has been lugged every where, been beat up, dropped, had beers spilled on it, was left in a hot trunk for a week in the summer and the same thing in the frozen winter and has NEVER ever failed me. The sound is always perfect. The only down side to this amp is it's weight and handle. It weighs 80 something pounds and it feels like it's 200 pounds because the only handle is on top. No side handles or wheels. If your over 6 feet tall and strong, you can handle it easier, but if you're a shorter person, you'll find it much harder to carry...which is why it was nicknamed "The Burden" in my band. I recently retired this amp to a practice only amp and i'm now using a Hartke Kickback 12, it's half the weight and sounds killer for live shows.
