Sounds okay at low volume, but at band level it's horrible. It bottoms out, and causes the speaker to burp. My band does not play that loud either. Peavey should stay away from having active circuitry on the 2 and 3 channel, maybe that's why it's awful. I will never buy an amp with active EQ circuitry ever. Peavey classic series are great.

Great For All Kinds Of Music

This amp is really good for any type of music, The clean has great sound and the dampning switch is very usefull. The Crunch is great for clasic rock and even hard rock. Many people say the amps for metal only. It is deff a good amp for metal cause it has more gain then you will ever need but if if take time and adjust the amp amp right and turn im some mids and some gain down it will work great for punk, alt., rock, thrash, hard core, metal. the power adjuster is also very handyto play at lower volumes and still get good sound. The amp is a great buy and sounds great. Sounds as good marshall and mesa boogie if you adjust it right and alot cheaper. Its ALL TUBE too.

Triple XXX Lover

By Wolfgang Nut

I've owned this amp for nearly a year and absolutely love it. It sounded great right out of the box, but was a little harsh and tinny under some circumstances. I just re-tubed with JJ 12AX7s and 6L6GCs and warmed the bias up a bit, now this thing is simply unbelievable. I've never imagined having such tone and versatilityat my disposal. I considered the 5150/6505 (huge EVH fan), but they don't perform as well at home studio volumes, plus they have no reverb or clean channel. This amp will not dissappoint you - rock solid with typical Peavey reliability.

Awesome

By KingBiskit

This amp is everything a touring musician needs. Selectable power section, reverb, 3 channels and tons of power. It's tube, thats all I've got to say, this amp set on 25 watts kills, 120 just shredds cabbage. The perfect amp for any musician.

Combo Amp

By unforgiven4eternity

from Central New York

This is without a doubt the most powerful combo amp I have ever used.Who needs a half stack? You can play almost any venue with this beast. I don't even mic it half the time. Built like a tank, Peavy really put some pride into this amp. The only downside is it's very heavy almost a hundred pounds. So heavy that the first time I brought it to a gig, the handle broke off and I dropped my amp in the driveway, a little scratched and bruised I plugged it in and played our gig that night without a hitch.I'd buy it again, it's a beast!!

120 watts of tube power is PLENTY enough power unless of course you want to play for the whole of New York City from Central Park. You can play shows for 5,000+ with this amp, and the most I've played for is about 1200-1400. They then came to me after the show and complained that their ears were ringing. Yeah, this is a great amp for a great value. 120 TUBE WATTS, 3 built in effect tube channels, and 2 twelves?! This is an amazing amp, with a unique tone. Get it while you can.

A versatile amp with a nod toward metal players.

By LithiumFix

from Seattle WA

I have owned a XXX combo for about a year now. I play mainly rock, and use a Strat. Les Paul Studio, and a Wolfgang Special. I have gigged numerous times with this amp, and recommend it for any players looking for a reliable rock amp. I find that you can get most rock tones, and many that are better than what you hear the "big boys" getting. It goes from AC/DC to Creed without breaking a sweat. I can even get a very decent "brown sound" with a little tweaking and a humbucker equipped strat. Well built, and it looks pretty cool too. I did change the 6L6's to EL-34's. The clean tone is good, but not great. The new tubes helped with that, as the Russian tubes that it came with were a little raspy sounding. My clean tone is warm and sounds great when you add a little jape to it. Try it out, but use a good quality guitar to play through it at the store. That will give you an idea of what it can really do. I ended up playing through it with my guitars just to so I wasn't surprised when I got it home. I don't regret buying this at all.

Bare Bone Beast of the night

By James-ihzNL

from Perrysville IN

OK this peice rocks it can definetly blow th eballs off a rhino from 50 even 100 yards. the foot switch on mine is weird but i bouight it used so its probably not in all models. plus the clean is very clean when you dial the mids back and the crunch is the best Van Halen sound i have ever heard.i play with a Les Paul Studio fitted with the Zakk Wylde set EMG pickupsand this things flys. just dial the gain back on the crunch channel and people will know that you AIN'T TALKING BOUGHT LOVE thats for sure. But bring a weight lifting belt for your back or you might be in the hospital for weeks...or just bring your drummer along.

I cranked up this XXX 2x12...budabing - budaboom...I bought it. It cuts through like nobody's business. Probably the best rock amp I've ever owned... This thing sounds off and serves perfectly every classic rock band we pay tribute to...yeah, I do get Marshall sounds and Boogie sounds...not perfectly, but I'm playing it hard and hours at a time. My Marshalls were always taking a dump. Made in The USA baby!! The reverb is perfect...does not affect the gain/drive/distortion at all. This is one heavy mother, though. Stand by for hernia surgery. I played this thing loud and right next to a Recto 50 and Marshall TSL-122! Peavey won the hearts of most on the huge sales floor. I had people actually cheering!

Peavey XXX trouble

Has a problem where it looses all it's power one minute, then is fine the next. It's at another shop and I have my fingers crossed they can fix it. It sounds good when it works, but crapped out on me at a gig. Never been so embarassed in my life. Wish I spent the extra money and bought the Marshall.

Not quite a pro amp

By Mad Dog Dorado

from Gilbert, AZ

I just bought the Peavey Triple XXX 120w combo basing the purchase on the 3 channels and the great crunch you hear on the samples. I was very excited, however unfortunately I was then very disappointed when I fired it up. By itself, the amp sounds great; put it with a band and both gain channels are empty and get lost. There is no tube feel or warmth what so ever. I currently play a Fender Prosonic 2x10 combo with a Marshall 4x10 cab, and the Peavey doesn't hold a candle. Great amp for garage bands though.

versatile amplifier

I've had this amp almost a year now. i inherited it from a friend of mine. this is a high quality amplifier; chromed over speakers, all tube circuitry, heavy duty chrome knobs. the things built like a tank and unfortunately just as heavy. I wish peavey had put casters on this monster. it sounds great for satriani/vai kind of stuff which is mainly what i play and it also sounds fine for classic rock although i wouldnt recomend it for somebody that wants a classic rock amp. I also have in my amp collection, 2 marshall half stacks (jcm 800 and 900), fender bassman, and fender super twin reverb and this amp blows all of them away with its tone, in my opinion. Great clean and o/d channel. The only problem i have with the tone is when you crank the bass up for heavy metal the speakers buzz horribly at their resonant frequency especially with palm muting. Overall a terrific amp.

All the amp I need

By Carl-82T-I

from Eagle Mountian City, UT

I've owned this amp for over a year, so I've had some time to live with it. I switched to GT El-34s after I got it. The EL-34s are warmer for a bluesy classic sound. I play a Les Paul and a Strat through it. It?s really heavy so I installed casters and heavy duty handles, that helped. I used it last summer for an outdoor gig to over 6000 people. I was concerned it might be a little weak. Actually, the rest of the band complained that I was too loud on stage. I made the appropriate adjustments. My drummer has a nasty habit of accidentally throwing sticks in my direction. It?s got ample guts for just about any gig and it sounds nice and thick at lower volumes as well. The foot switch is roomy and built like a tank just like the amp. In over 20 years of playing I've never had an amp that cuts through the mix like it. I?ve played through many of the biggies. I get a lot of compliments on the sound quality. I really think this amp is hard to beat for performance and price. I like things simple and reliable on stage and this amp has three very solid and easy to navigate channels.

Peavey classic series are great.

love the crunch channel

By 3harmonicas

from FL

i bought this amp 1 yr. ago. the clean is better with the damping switch on tight-but the other 2 channels are better on loose damping. the crunch channel can be dialed-in to produce one of the best tube amp sounds (HARMONIC SUSTAINNNNNN.....) i have ever heard; strips enamel off the teeth! GET IT FOR BIG CLASSIC (SOUTHERN TO AC/DC) STYLE RIFFS--- if you get this amp for metal, (I wanted it capable of metal) you prob won't be smiling! of course, with the right effects and equipment, i finally got that bada** heavy sound going thru the clean channel.
