This is probably the best "bang-fer-yer-buck" practice amp. As an adult (spelled "Old Guy") learning electric guitar I can choose any type-of -amp, and any-effect whatsoever. (In fact the "Phaser" operates more effectively than any analog stomp box!!)
Since I won't be turning up the volume with a pipe wrench, or banging it against a wall, or dropping it down the stairs, it should last ME quite a while.
(I did get the 2-YR warranty just in case I want to!)
You get everything!! Stomp box effects, it emmulates every popular amp model, 4 preset buttons that work like on an FM radio, knobs that came off a star trek set, upholstered in synthetic "water buffalo". All this and when you turn it on, before you plug in the input, the thing gets bored and puts on a light show for something to do!
IMPORTANT: This unit 1.) will not accept ANY pedals. You gotta use the knobs!
2.) Has NO USB PORT
The top strap was mounted slightly off. (Big Deal!! Its a practice amp!! I HAVE a screwdriver!!) Some guys don't like the "vypyr teeth" on the grill. (So What?! It's removable!)
This thing has only one drawback...it's probably too complicated to figure out for those guys that drink brawndo through a crazy straw!

I'm in Iraq, I needed a small versatile amp to practice quietly in my room. The high gain sounds on the metal amps are really good if you leave them on the red (hi-gain) channel, on the green channel they sound fake and hollow, garbage. The clean sounds on the other side are good if you leave them in the green (clean) channel, the red channel sounds like the green channel on the other side. So basically there is no in between, you can go high gain on one side or clean on the other and it sounds good if you stick to that. The effects are lousy except the delay. The chorus, octaver and pitch shifter are so bad I hope someone got fired over them. And to top it all off the amp got stuck in headphone mode about a week ago so I can only play with headphones. Cheap construction and effects. I'm a peavey loyalist and I was upset over my buy. I bought a Vox VT15, I'll see how that works.

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Everything about the vypyr 15 is easy to use , I spend more time playing know than trying to dial in a sound with a mustang amp. Simply put this amp makes me want to play alot more mustang amps get boring real quick. My music style is blue grass to rock and roll and metal. The VYPYR 15 does it all, my experience with the mustang line of amps really dissapointed me I bought the vypyr 15 to give that line of amps a test drive cause i want to get a much bigger amp and a hundred dollars is not going to kill me. With that being said im not going to get a bigger amp cause that amp does it all. Its pretty loud and its all i need i dont play live or even play with anyone so it fills my needs 100%. IN THIS CASE LESS IS MORE!!!!
Everything one needs to create excellent guitar sound, love the way you can quickly change your sound.
Not sure if it would handle being gigged with, great for home enviroment. The wood they used is what gives this amp a sense of cheapness about it, but as soon as you start playing through it you simply are blown away and you forget about it.But me i like to look at it too and thats wheen i notice it.
Ive owned a mustang i and still have mustang ii I simply dont use it anymore since i bought this amp.

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I love this amp! This thing is very loud and perfect for the bedroom rocker! It has plenty of knobs and setting to keep even the best guitarist busy for awhile. There is a learning curve to this amp and mine didn't come with a book? Anyway for the price you cannot beat this amp. It is great for the metal tones. If you are looking for bluesy tones go with a Fender Mustang.

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I have been playing guitar for over 15 years. I bought this amp because of it's versatility and because I like to play a lot of different styles of music. I love to play blues, Santana, metal, and hard rock. This amp does it all. It lacks the stompbox effects in all of the other models, and it does not have the usb out for the audio interface. But if you are looking for a practice amp this is it. I can get a Pantera sound, a Santana sound, a Clapton blues or a Stevie blues, anything I want. It's loud enough to play in my church or small gigs if you mike it, but the best value in the line up is the 60 watt tube version by far. Best amp for under 100 out there.

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Wanted a practice amp that would satisfy just a few needs. A good distortion sound, a good clean sound, easy to use, and sounds decent at very low volumes. Got very spoiled by my 5150 combo; nothing sounds quite as good to my ears, but the thing is louder than bombs; can't practice with that in my apartment. Tried a bit of stuff: vox vt20+, blackstar ht-1r, and a digitech rp-255 through a couple of different small combos. Trying to play through all of them was like squeezing blood from a stone; just couldn't get the tone or feel out of any of them no matter how hard I tried. Enter the vypyr 15. It's remarkable how good it sounds, even at its lowest levels. The combination of saturation, clarity, and balls is quite surprising. Even the cleans have a nice kick. I'm not saying to go gig with the thing, but for practicing, you can't beat it. The harmonics are there with the distortions, as well as the sustain; the mesa emulation actually has more sustain than a real mesa funny enough. The cleans are really nice as well. It's not just a metal amp. Dialing in medium-gain tones is quite easy as well, just try the twin and plexi settings on the overdrive setting or clean with the tube screamer (or both). Not bad... It actually has a surprising amount of low end as well, which I think is generally a concern for amps this size. I actually had to turn the bass down for most of the presets when I initially got it; it's that fat-sounding. The effects are decent, good enough for practice, that's what I would yet again like to stress this amp should be for. I don't think anything is going to be a replacement for your favorite tube amp; at least, not for me. For practice, I don't think you're going to find anything better. Great sounds at bedroom-friendly levels, easy to use, and very affordable. I'm finally enjoying playing guitar at home again...

HAving been on and off guitar for 50 years, I've had my share of great amps... some not so great.

This Vyper comes so close to reminding me of my favorites that I should have never sold.

It is way more that I need in features.... lots I don't even recognize by name but the ones I do know are a delight.

I am as pleased with this amp today as I was with my Twin Reverb (back in the day.)
More than I would ever use however the ones I do use are great.
For this price the switches are solid, quiet.. time will tell.
Can't tell you how much they dropped the price for me... but I couldn't say no!

      Awesome Amp...but.....

      By Justin Giebudowski

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp about 2 months ago, after comparing it, side by side, with a different modeling amp. I, quite literally, live in a basement, so keeping volume low was a priority for me," as not to disrupt the other members of my household. This amp DOES get loud. I RARELY play above ""3"" on the master", but on the few times I have cranked it out, it does get a little bit squirrely.

Well, 2 months later, I'm still in love with it, however, it has gotten to the point where it is a slight bit limiting - I have a tendancy to switch effects mid-song, and without a footswitch to do so, I find myself looking at a Vypyr 30 and a Sanpera II, which will not work on this amp, as it doesn't have the MIDI interface to connect to it.

I've also been considering dropping some cash on a few pedals, but with the stompbox additions on the 30, I'm going to really need to sit down, and play through those before buying a pedal that I won't wind up using.

Understand - nothing negative I am writing about is really the fault of the amp - it was a poor choice on my own part, not a failing on Peavey's.

Bottom line: If you are a true beginner, or just need something to screw around with, this amp will have you set for a long time. However, if you are looking for something that will last you for the longer haul, go with a different model that has the MIDI and the additional stompboxes.
I liked the fact that this had more amp models than...the other guy. If you are researching Modeling Amps, you know which one I am talking about...

Lack of an actual effects loader is dissapointing, though - you CAN get pedals and switches to work through it, but it takes a small bit of coaxing.
Everything except for the actual housing seems to be pretty well built. The housing itself is slightly thinner than I would like, but that can be a good thing - you aren't lugging around a tank, but I wouldn't suggest using it as a seat.
For the price, I don't think ANYONE could go wrong on this.

This is a wonderful amp. It has great cleans and biting overdrives with excellent effects modeling. However if you are looking to play OVER drums in any application then you should step up the wattage. Go for the 30 watt or higher. Any setting over volume level 5 or 6 will be riddled with clicks, dropouts and distortion. Overall the amp is the best for the price!

      How much?...yeah

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I originally had the 30w, which had the 10" speaker but traded it for this one (the 30 was to loud for my apartment). Nice bass response for such a small speaker (this was a concern for me). Controls are a little weird due to all the features on the amp. Once you figure it out its not bad at all, and I never even looked at the instructions.

The only thing I could think of that I would like on this amp that it doesnt already have is a fuzz of some sort. The distortions vary enough to make up for that though. Great, near perfect, practice amp.
The amp models are really what sets this amp apart from the rest. There are a lot of them and most of them sound very nice. The effects are pretty good to, however there are some that are worthless. Still, all the effects I need. Tuner is handy.
Never had an issue with it, which was a concern when I bought the amp.
I almost de-rated everything else to point out how great a value this amp is.
