I just got one of these used with an old VTM 120 head, and I've gotten a really smooth overdrive out of this set-up. It can get a little muddy, but I've messed around with the settings and have gotten a really nice, crisp, classic rock sound (think Angus Young) -- which is what I like. I use a Gibson "The Paul" (a thin Les Paul - sounds more like a SG). If you use loads of distortion, it does get pretty chunky, but I normally don't, so it works fine for me. I'm probably a little biased because this is my first half-stack and I got it really cheap, so I can certainly live with it. I don't plan on gigging that frequently, so I can live with the handles - though I could see how that might get tiresome.

I've had this cab for almost 2 years, and on its own merit with the XXL head, is decent. Sounds good overall, but the quality is no comparison to a good Mesa, Marshall or Krank cab. Plywood? C'mon. This is where it hurts - it's definitely NOT roadworthy. The small, cheap casters can't stand up to being used much and one of mine actually ripped out of the cabinet. A huge chunk of the cab came out with the caster while being rolled across a parking lot to a gig!The handles are painfully hard to get a hold of, and how in the world do you remove the grill if a speaker blows? Beats me!Again, for a low priced cab, it's definitely not worth much more than it sells for. Maybe not that much.

Its ok after you replace the speakers

By CURMUDGEON B.C.

from Fremont California

I have had this cab for a while now. The speakers that were in it were a bit farty, as I like to play dropped-B, so I ended up replacing them with Celestion Vintage-30s and Eminence Red-Coat "the Governors" Now, I LOVE the cabinet....its built like a tank, and I toss this thing around pretty good. Tolex has held up fine, casters are a little small, but havent broken on me yet, and I have gigged this for 2+ years, and I am the 2nd owner of this cab...

Not a horrible cab, but it is pretty cheap feeling when placed up to other cabs. Ive been playin and giggin with mine for about a year, and it has help up just fine. I run mine with the JSX head. It does have an old british type feeling to it, not to clear, and not too punchy, but a smooth rocky type sound. Maybe not the best, but I think there is worse. Try to find one used, and im sure you wont be dissapointed, as you can get em pretty cheap nowadays....

sounds great

i love this cab. i use it with a 300 watt peavey head and the tone sounds great. it is extremely loud and you can crank it up and it still sounds good. if you're looking for a cab with a good price, go with this.

best sounding cab i think i've ever heard

By Mark :: September 22nd

from milan, TN

i personally rate it above any marshall, mesa, fender, or any other cab i have ever herd. only thing i don't like about it is the handles, but that's nothing.

there is a fix

By Big Chief

from johnsonville, Sc

at first when i got th exxl cab, it did have a chunky sound to it. i mean it was really getting on my nerves, but the next day i bought the Boss GT-6 pedal, and it got more of a chunky sound to it till i turned on the commpression on my GT-6. i programmed the compression with everything, and it took out 80 percent of the chunky sound to it. now i can blast up when im playing with my buddies when they have top of the line mesa boogie and marshall half stacks. cause now i an hang with them without having that nasty chunky sound.

You get what you pay for

By Ludificatio Daemonium

I play black metal music and this cab is only OK to use with a soild state head. This cab sounds BAD with my 100watt Marshall tube head. As long as you use an unpowerful soild state head you should be OK.

Horrible

I bought this cab in a half stack pack with the XXL. I play metal, and this has to be the worst cab i have ever played on. let's start with the handles. these are of the poorest quality. i have dragged this thing up and down many sets of stairs and i despise the handle design. they are horrible and hard to hold onto. i have played this cab with 3 other heads to see if it was in fact the cab that sucked, and it does. the sound is way too chunky. i would buy a marshal or even a crate over this cab any day.

It's a decent cab, for a novice...

By Xtopher

from Bristol, CT

For quite some time I played through a small combo. This was my first cab, and at the time I loved it. Now that I've been playing for 10 years, I don't love it so much. It's very muddy, and doesn't produce any of the crunch my Marshall (or Mesa) cabs have. I play a Schecter C1 Classic mostly, using Marshall and occasionally Mesa heads. This cab is great if you don't care about your sound and don't want to spend that extra on something a little better. I'll be selling mine soon for sure. To me, it just takes up space.

I purchased the peavey XXL cab and i use a line6 vetta2 head. to me it has a great sound, but the build could be a little better. example: handles, external vinyl covering, and the wheels should be more to the outside of the bottom of the cab.
