I have always wanted to own a Pignose and now I have one! Gotta say, for the money, you can't beat it! Nice and solid feeling, pretty thick sound for a rechargeable. I use it as a practice amp on the patio. I have a Digitech RP150 and a Silvertone Les Paul knockoff that adds a different dimension to the sound. Gives it that garage rock feel. I'll mic it and BOOM!! Can't go wrong for the money, just play with it and you'll see. A must have for the price!

I had one of the original pignoses until it crapped out after about 10 years. A cool little amp for the time and very usable for practice.I had higher expectations for the Hog 20, which weren't realized. Other companies are offering more bang for the buck now.The Hog 20 is an adequate practice amp, but I have found that above 6, the volume level produces unpleasant distortion and electronic hum. Not to mention the metal screen over the speaker vibrates annoyingly. The usable distortion is somewhat thin. Some may find this amp perfectly adequate. In fact I've had some fun with it using tele, strat and LP.But there is so much out there in terms of Asian-built low price amps with numerous features, I would try several before buying.

Comments about Pignose Hog 20 Amp:

I've read the glowing reviews and I just don't see it. First off, is it portable? The size says yes, the weight says no. I can only imagine it's called the "Hog" because ut weighs so much. It's over 12 pounds! You know those UPS backup power supplies used for computers? This thing has two of those batteries, it's heavy. Instead if engineering it to be user friendly they slapped stickers on the batteries telling you all the stuff you have to do to keep them from "dying young". Great message to read on your amp! Oh, and if you want to bring the charger along, that's 2 more pounds and it's the size of a brick.

The sound? I guess the clean sound is usable. Nothing special though. The overdrive "Squeal" is useless. It really makes to difference to the tone until you crank it. Then it starts to sound like playing a fuzz box underwater. I don't know any songs where that comes in handy. It sound like a blown speaker (btw, my speaker is fine, I checked).

So overall, I hate this thing. It's heavy, ugly and has no useable sounds. I can't imagine anyone giving it a five star review. They can't be talking about this amp.

      Just Incredible!

Comments about Pignose Hog 20 Amp:

I use my Pignose Hog 20 daily. I take it everywhere on the airplane stuffed inside my duffle bag, and it still looks like new. I use the headphones a lot, so I can go MONTHS at a time between charges. Paired with my Schecter C-1 Artist, I have a lot of tone variations to toy with. The thing is tough, sounds good, and I could not be more pleased with a product. Thanks Pignose!

I use this amp to play Harmonica and it sounds great. I use a Shure model 520dx mic and play outdoors a lot. It is easy to use and I really like the fact that it is portable and rechargeable.

Comments about Pignose Hog 20 Amp:

Incredibly loud for its size. The tone is superb. You really won't believe that this much sound is coming from this small amp. Makes my crappy guitar playing sound grea...tolerable. It's kind of heavy for its size, but the 2 rechargeable batteries are heavy. This is to be expected. I'm very impressed and happy that I bought it.

        Pignose Knows Best!!

        By Toni Valarezo

        from Miami, FL

Comments about Pignose Hog 20 Amp:

I use a Korg Pandora Mini multi effects processing unit to achieve a large spectrum of sounds. That is another unit that I recommend guitar players to use to compliment the sound and functionality of this Pignose Hog 20 amplifier. The Hog handles pedals very well, as I also unit a Biyang Compressor Unit and an Electro Harmonix Linear Boost Unit (both seperately). I have not tried a Distortion or High Gain pedal unit to achieve METAL-esk sounds but I am very sure (almost to a certainty) that this amplifier can handle it. I hope that my review has helped guitarists make an informed decision about this product. It is a very practical and inspiring product that EVERY guitarist should have as a practice aid. Good luck to all of you on your musical and technical guitar journeys! Peace!
Ok, so let me begin by telling y'all what this amp does. The Pignose Hog 20 is a RECHARGEABLE amplification unit that does what it is supposed to do; produces a clean sound. This sound is very clear and articulate. I will be yet another reviewer that mentions this amp's strong suit is it's CLEAN setting. The amplifier also has a TONE knob to adjust the brightness of the sound, as well as a SQUEAL knob to add an OVERDRIVE voice to the sound. This SQUEAL knob IS NOT a distortion knob. It is best used as a clean boost or to add a small amount of GRIT to the sound. If you are looking for a GAIN suited amplifier, this unit is NOT for you. If you are looking for an amplifier that inspires you to create and play than look no further. This amp is for you!
This amplifier is 100% portable. Once the unit is fully charged one can easily take it to a park, garden, school, play ground, lake, beach, or ANY place that does not have an electrically input. Be warned; the juice on this unit only lasts for 8 hours so plan accordingly. The amplifier is very sturdy. Though it is small and compact, and can easily fit into the trunk of a car, it is somewhat heavy (weighing at about 15-20 pounds; maybe less). I can not attest to it's long term functionality for I have only owned it for a week.
This amplifier is a STEAL! Its value and practical use far exceeds its cost. My only criticism of this product is that it takes 4-5 hours to charge in the wall before use. This is not an overwhelming disadvantage, only a point worth mentioning to potential buyers.

        Good bedroom amp, nothing more

Comments about Pignose Hog 20 Amp:

I baught this amp about three years ago and at first was pretty impressed. Rechargible, light, but still pretty loud for 20W. The clean setting on this amp is good...until about 5 or 6, then there's this really annoying buzzing when low notes are played. Obviously, that made me dislike the amp quite a bit, and it gets worse with pedals in front of it. At low volumes, this thing can get great distortion out of a pedal; the cab is good for recording too just stick the mic in the back and shred. I mainly baught this for a bedroom use, but I think it's time to sell it since tubes are my game now and there's better for the money. If you want a practice amp for blues and don't want to lug around huge cabs and such, get this.

Comments about Pignose Hog 20 Amp:

Own it Use it. I've used for basement & garage band practice & Jamming. Keeps up with much higher wattage amps. Very loud for 20 watts, Squeal knob great for OD or Distortion sounds @ any volume level. This thing runs for months on a charge. I play it 1/2 hour 4 X a week & the charge seems to last forever. Recharge overnight & your up and running. Light weight very portable no need to bring AC adapter to gig long lasting rechargable batteries included. No AAA,AA,C,D batterys to buy all built in. Sounds from super clean To full on Overdrive Destortion with the "Squeal" knob. Save your back for paying shows. A chorus pedel would be nice between guitar & amp for clean sound. Play dirty skip the Chorus pedel. Also, has tone knob takes your sound form Thick HUMBUCKER SoUND to brittle single coil sound. CRANK UP THE VOLUME ALL THE WAY ON THE AMP & USE THE GUITARS VOLUME & TONE KNOBS FOR MORE FLEXABILITY. 9 OVERALL SCORE FOR LACK OF FX. Have owned for at least 5 years, still like new condition. I take care of my stuff. Only concern is how long will the rechargable batterys last. 5 years & still fine. I run mine until the lack of charge starts dirtying up the sound then recharge. I would replace it if lost or stolen. No need for bigger amp for full band show, Just mike the thing I& run thru PA. Maybe put a multi FX pedel, depending on your song list. Think EZ, Light, flexable, inexpensive & back saver if your a LP player. I use Fender Deluxe Stratocaster, Washburn Idol WI64DL & Les Paul Special Humbucker with it, ideal for all guitars. Use your guitar Volume & tone knobs for more tailored sounds.
