If you want instructions, you'll be sad. If you have some chops and aren't afraid to experiment "carefully" to push it and see what it will do, you shouldn't blow the amp and will find that for small venues (30-50 people or 100 ft or so), coffee houses, street corners, living rooms will be a blast. Time will tell for me on the batteries and its' general longevity. I hope it will be good for 3 years and more. We'll see.
1st let me say a 10 rating in my book is rare and involves walking on water or in simpler terms knocking my socks off. This amp is perfect at what it does, and that is it runs off battery power (so far over 5 hrs without a sign it is slowing down at 2.5-3.0 VOL) and provides great sound for bass and/or acoustic guitar. I did not try a keyboard (yet). A mic is fine for simple busking or jamming with an acoustic (because they both get EQ'd the same), the mic gets muddied for my preference after a bass is EQ'd. But that's OK cause we use a Crate TX15 for the main voc mic and acoustic guitar (the Crate has 2CH,Bal and Line input). So a <$200 bass with a active EQ and PJ pickups ranged from warm to punchy to slap happy. Our bass players were happy with the range of setups. Also with a battery powered bass or acoustic pedal even more setups are available. In fact if you can get the bass EQ'd before the amp, suddenly the mic is more viable.
In general for the $152 (on sale) this is a great portable bass amp.
Too soon to tell. First thing I'll tell you is the manual stinks. There are no instructions regarding the EQ setups. Like does the front setup affect the back channel two?? Sounds like maybe it does, sure would be nice to KNOW. I can also say the back channel connection started out with a bit of static but settled down more or less. I also checked out the battery replacement. Pignose folks say to send it in, but you can get to them okay if you can locate the same batteries online or elsewhere. Maybe Pignose will sell just the Batt's. I don't know what the cost is to send it in but I am guessing the shipping one way is at least $20 or so, making it a loosing game unless you have a local dealer. Right now I am hoping they last the three yrs plus they should (with care) and then I'll deal with it.

Portability is the thing here. I've needed a small amp for use on camping trips and for jamming with acoustic groups for a long time. This is the answer. Don't exspect any earthshaking sound, but if you need a little extra bottom for your upright bass or you want to play your bass guitar or keyboard with your acoustic friends this is great. Just charge it up and go. It is quite light, easy to carry and has respectible tone for a small unit. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

Comments about Pignose Hog 30 Amp:
I got a Hog 30 for Christmas. The amp had a good charge out of the box so I was able to play it right away. The sound quality is good. This is a portable amp so it is not going to sound like an SVT, but I found the sound to be warm and surprisingly good bass response for it's size. The EQ is great for fine tuning the sound. I am using it with a Kala U-Bass, which makes for an extremely portable rig. This will be great for camping and playing outdoors in general, as well as jamming with acoustic instruments. I have read some of the other reviews and agree that it can have a slight "rattle" at higher volumes, which could be easily be resolved with some acoustic insulation. The cabinet is easily accessible. Battery life seems good as well. For what I wanted it for, it certainly does the job well.

Comments about Pignose Hog 30 Amp:
I've been looking for a battery powered bass amp for a while, finally found one that stands up to the task, portability, good sound quality, and enough juice to play a whole night or afternoon without having to find a place to plug in.

Comments about Pignose Hog 30 Amp:
Bought this amp just to have something to mess around with on those nights when i feel like playing outside. I have played several electric, acoustic, and bass guitars through this amp, and have always been able to find the tone i'm looking for. I get very clear tones from the amp, even when running multiple pedals in front of it. Overall, i'm very impressed with it.
Comments about Pignose Hog 30 Amp:
I ordered the HOG 30, and it arrived defective. The amp had no clean sound at any volume, only blown speaker distortion. I asked for a replacement, and it was worse - missing the charger, the cabinet was cracked in half, and it also only played with blown speaker distortion. Poor quality control and cheap materials. Avoid this product.
Comments about Pignose Hog 30 Amp:
I like pretty much everything about this amp except the hard plastic "legs" on the bottom. They should be rubber or soft polymer. Period. Hard plastic breaks, you knotheads! Easily. Change this aspect of the design.
Comments about Pignose Hog 30 Amp:
I just got done using this thing, my uncle gave it to my sister as well as a guitar but she never plays so I sometimes use it for bass.About three months ago, every plug(send, return, headphone, and charger) went completely dead with the battery running low. Suddenly yesterday it they started working again so we charged it.Today I used it (with my bass) after normally using a 10W Behinger guitar amp.. This thing had alot better tone with the bass; serprisingly however, I could barely hear myself. My 10W Behinger gets more valume. (with headphones)I think they used a 30W speaker, but not much more that a 15W head where as my 10W, they probably used a 20W head and a 10W speaker.Overall this is a pretty good amp, it would be nice if it had an overdrive setting on it though.
Comments about Pignose Hog 30 Amp:
This was a risky buy... I wasn't sure how the quality of the sound would be and thought it would be built cheaple, BOY WAS I WRONG! As a bassist I am extremely proud of the sound quality of this amp. The "funk" option realy helps out when your playing chilli peppers or any funk type of music. This amp is also built like a tank! The day i got this amp I charged it for the seven hours and have been playing it non-stop. The charge life is amazing... with hard playing it lasted a few days. The picture makes the amp look small but its not. The only bad thing I could say about this amp is, it's 28 pounds, and for portability thats a lot. The weight is worth it though... BUY IT!
Comments about Pignose Hog 30 Amp:
I play at a small church on Sundays, and practice Tuesdays. I play mostly 5 string bass, but sometimes guitar or mandolin. The instruments may change, but this amp ALWAYS is the one to go on the road with me. It has plenty of volume for what I use it for. I especially like the duo volume knobs as opposed to some cheesie fake overdrive knob. I also like the Funk Bass switch. The thing I like is that it's a pure gigging road amp that has power to spare (over 8 hours). It even has jacks in the back for pedals (those things you use for overdrive). I love this amp!!!I call it my Road Hog. It's the only road hog I ever liked.
