This is the ABY you need in your gig bag - especially if you have the backline supplied for you at each gig.

Not only does this cool box give you A and B and of course - both - but this little deal can isolate your amps from each other (in case of buzz), you can switch the B signal 180 degrees out (if you are playing a Deluxe Reverb or Twin and want to simply switch between the two channels), and a ground lift for ground loop issues.

I use this for either switching between two amps - one for rhythm and the other for leads - or like I stated before - if you have a Deluxe Reverb you just use one channel - like the tremolo and reverb channel - for the rhythm stuff - crank the first channel and make that the B channel on the switch - and you have instant lead channel. Sometimes I even bring a little distortion pedal for the lead channel just to push it a little - and you have a great little classic channel switching tube combo that sounds fantastic. You can't loose!

The Tuner Out is a neat feature but is not mutable - the neat thing here is that you can put another amp on the other side of the stage for the bass player or drummer and use the tuner out to send that signal over there.

Everyone needs an ABY box from time to time -0 this one has the options that you can really use - so buy it today.

This pedal's ABY function does work. Switching between A and B keeps good tone. But when you activate both A and B, there is tone suck so hard and chops off so much of the highs that it alsmost sounds like a wah rolled back. Do not get if you plan on using two amps simultaneously.

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone BigShot ABY Passive Switcher:

I was skeptical about the quality of sound since it's not active, but trust me when I say that it works perfectly. I run a Carvin V3 thru output A and a Marshall JMD100 thru output B, and the iso transformer switched up cleared up the sound as if they were running independently of each other. No degradation of sound or sustain, even on clean channels without a compressor. I have no need for the phase inverter yet, but my sound is absolutely perfect. If you are reading this, and you need something like this, get this!!!

      Surpassed ALL Expectations!!

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone BigShot ABY Passive Switcher:

If you don't have one of these in your pedel board get one. I have been playing for over 40 years and it opened up my eyes and ears to new possibilities. I have tried other ABY's and was never impressed and rather turned off until Radial got it right. Nice Job guys!!
I bought the Big Shot to run two amps at the same time. What I discovered was that using the phase switch on this unit allowed me to operate both channels of my '74 Musicman 65 watt 210 combo at the same time and acheive new tones that I never was able to get on eith side of this amp. Once I got the switchs set to the right position it just seemed to sing a whole new song. I now split between both sides of the Musicman amp and run my Marshall JCM 800 212 combo from the tuner output. I just placed the tuner with a mute capability before the unit and all is well....
Solid unit in a metal case. Rugged and will stand up to my big stomp. It could use a couple LEDs to show what channel is active or when they are combined. But this would require a power circuit and is really not necessary but could be useful.
Short $ for the versitility I gained with my setup.

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone BigShot ABY Passive Switcher:

        I like it
I use an ABY box for recording. Bought this one to prevent the hum I get from signal spitting going to an amp and a powered DI box. Works as advertised. Output A does get a bit of coloration from the transformer which isolates it from Output B, but easy to correct as needed w/ the amp.

Big bonus for me recording wise is the PHASE switch. Switching outputs to be in or out of phase adds a whole new tone pallete to recordings.

Completely passive, no battery or walwart to worry about.
Initial quality seems good; solid built.
Not cheap, but does the trick: defeats the hum.

input... outputs ... tuner out... no power... no leds... works like a dream. built like a tank and my amps play together so well.
this is a ten on so many levels. for 80 dollars its a steal. THANK YOU RADIAL YOU DID A GREAT JOB.
i was using just to pick amps on the fly when i wanted to use one. now i use a clean amp and dirty amp and my sound is everything i wanted. this is a big part of my sound and i could be happier. if your looking for something cheap. you can get the morley aby but i decided to spring the extra cost and i have never looked back. not saying morley is bad but for more features and great tone i recommend this.

You won't be disappointed in this switcher... So simple to use!Incredibly engineered product, and built rock solid. Passive switch, so no batteries/power supply are needed. I use this to mute my guitar output while I'm tuning since I don't use a volume pedal. Incredibly versatile, too, if you want to switch between amps.

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone BigShot ABY Passive Switcher:

Very pleased with the durability. This switch does exactly as described. It would have been nice to have LED indicators (especially to remember the last state when toggling the "BOTH" switch). In other words, the proposed LED indicators would remember if you are using the A or were using the B channel prior to enabling both. This way when disabling both (i.e. back to A or B) you know where you were when returning. If perhaps the switches were DPDT (double pole double throw), the LED circuit is separate from the audio signal, and would not affect tone. But, the LED circuit would need DC power from either a battery or a DC power adapter, which would add to the cost. A person can always add the LED indicator modification if they want on their own.

When using the isolation transformer feature, it does roll off the highs a bit . Not a problem, because you can boost your highs up a bit on the amp(s) and compensate for it. Also, the phase inverter switch only works when using the isolation transformer and phase inverter switch together. This is normal (as it states this in the manual). Just mentioning this because if you forget about using them together, and just use the phase inverter switch by itself, it may appear that the inverter switch doesn't work (which is not the case, because it's being used incorrectly).

In my opinion, this ABY switch is very functional and usable especially having these options:

          A) Ground lift option
          B) Phase inverter option
          C) Isolation transformer option the inductively couples the audio.

These features are the sole reason and justification as to why I purchased this product.
          Nice job Radial Engineering !!!

Built solid like other Radial products I own. This is a real MAN'S pedal, those expecting soft buttons and cuddly good looks need not apply. Radial pedals feel like they would survive even the most aggressive scream-0 band wanna-be's. If your looking for a passive A-B, click 'add to cart' and stop wasting your time.

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone BigShot ABY Passive Switcher:

very satisfied with product, the fact that is has no lights is not an issue for me also I have read with the iso transformer engaged there is a loss of tone, sorry don't hear it for how I am using it. Also I run Radial ABY in front of my Rivera amp still no signal loss, turned the highs on my amp up a bit, and sounds fine. If you have issues with tone loss you could try a buffer pedal, but I have not found it necessary.
Very versitle I found the ISO the most usefull as I have a Boss power supply that has daisy chain connections thus interupting any kind of groung loop. I connect my tuner on my pedal board to A out so I can mute for silent tuning as I plug B out direct into a pa system. My morley AB makes an annoying popping sound when I switch channels, hooked up the Bigshot ABY flipped iso switch no more pops! Since it is analog it will give off a pop when using pedal to switch between two seperate power amps.
Excellent quality sturdy case, well built. small compact unit fits nicley on pedal board with out taking up valuable space.
A little bit of a higher priced pedal but well worth it.

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone BigShot ABY Passive Switcher:

Obviously there are good positive reviews here on this product. No need to parrot about it. This is probably the best ABY for the money that you can get your hands on - period. The addition of ground-lift, polarity reverse, isolation transformer is unheard of in an ABY at this price and is an outstanding necessary addition. Other ABYs that don't have those abilities fall short by a long shot. Yeah, it would be nice to have indicator LEDs, but Radial Engineering's logic about keeping cost down by not including them is OK. This ABY is excellent.

So the true bypass is crap. Get the voodoo labs switcher. It does 4 amps with no tone change. Waste of money. I have been playing for 40 years so I know.

I was using Morley's AB-Y, but I was getting a ground loop type buzz. I switched to this box, and without even engaging any of the switches, the buzz was gone. Very solid build, good sound quality as long as you make sure you have a buffered pedal in front of the box to compensate for it's transformer. Highly recommended if you're running 1 hi-gain and 1 lo-gain head like I am.

The best passive switcher out there!

            By StBlues86

            from Portland, MI

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone BigShot ABY Passive Switcher:

The few who don't like this switcher just missunderstand it. For those wanting to run 2 amps, you can't beat this one. The ground lifts and polarity switches are a must because many amps have different input polarities and ground problems. 'MAIN THING,if you need to use the reverse polarity, (as I do running into the 2 channels of my '73 fender deluxe, ya the imputs on this amp like many others are out of phase with each other and require phase reverse on the switcher), the transformer in the switcher will load down your guitar pickups and make it sound very dark. Solution? Make sure you have a modern effects pedal or any buffer pedal before the switcher, tone is restored, everything's cool. If you need more features or don't use effects pedals, move up to a radial active swithcer.

I run through 2 amps-one for regular guitar sound with a splitter and the other with an EH B9 and Boss synth pedal. There would be tremendous hum but for a quality AB box that prevents the ground issue. I normally use a high priced but effective unit but I need another to leave in the rehearsal space. I was surprised hoe effective this switcher is and a very reasonable price. It also has a small footprint which is helpful.

Didn't take much digging to finds out that Radial is a go-to for this. Was surprised at the heft of it. Very small footprint for my (or any) pedal board. Does exactly as advertised. Slapped it on my board, lot's of hum and out of phase (as expected when running two separate rigs and zero fault of the Tonebone). Activated the LIFT/180º/ISO switches. Totally gone, and the full sound I was hoping for came to life. Great job, Radial, and as always, a pleasure to work with Musicians Friend.
