OVERVIEW

Big, fat, mega-searing tube tone without modeling!

The Radial Tonebone Classic Tube Drive Pedal is the perfect choice for players that want extra growl in their sound. From a light crunch to severe overdrive, the Classic offers tremendous flexibility. You get that natural, even-harmonic distortion only a tube can provide. From the sweet spot of a vintage tweed to hot-rod amps that smoke the blues, it's all here.

5 knobs and 3 switches make it easy to sculpt your tone the way you like. Level provides overall output level control to your amp. High and low EQ knobs let you fine tune the tonal character, while the filter knob provides a gentle roll-off for extra-bright amps. The drive knob adjusts the input level for optimum distortion. For switches, the Top End offers Bright, Flat, and Dark settings to shape the feel and overall tone. Mid Boost is designed with classic amp sounds in mind, and gives you a 7dB or 12dB boost so your solos cut through. Drive Gain sets the distortion range to low, medium, or high. The heavy-duty footswitch controls a true-bypass circuit and a bright red LED can be seen on any stage. Includes power supply.

FEATURES
  • Rich, natural tube sound

Tone Bonus

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic Tube Distortion Pedal:

This little blue jem of a pedal is one of the best tube overdrive/distortion stomp boxes out there. And here's why: 3 touch-sensitive ranges of low, mid and high gain voicing at your finger tips. Need a warm, subtle clean boost to your rhythm or solo lines? It's there. How about setting the Tone Bone at mid gain, back off on your guitar volume for warm rhythm and then cut through the mix with a distorted, yet clear solo? It's there again. Santana Boogie Mk II sounds at high gain? Yup. In fact, I have a Boogie Mk II and use the Tone Bone instead of the amps high gain channel - call me crazy, but the Bone delivers the tone without compromising the nice clean settings on the rhythm channel. The key to dialing in just the right tone is to play with the filter control and mid boost switch to get either a scooped mid, flat or mid-boosted sound. And Radial's customer support is great. After a couple years' use I had an issue with the footswitch. I contacted Radial, telling them that if they sent me the part, I'd solder it. Done - free of charge within a week. That said, I've found their products to be very robust.I liked this pedal so much, I got a Hot British for scooped-mid high gain sounds and now both live on pedal board. These pedals aren't cheap but they're worth every penny.

Perfect what else is there to say?

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic Tube Distortion Pedal:

I had a hard time finding that certain drive sound. I got frustrated with simply using a marshall amp distortion, and I tried several variations of lesser distortion, overdrive, and fuzz pedals. One of my friends (an incredible musician currently attending Berklee School of Music) turned me on the tonebone. He was using the britsh and his bandmate was using the classic. The first time I heard them playing their pedals I was amazed at the amazing clarity depth of the distortion sound. I didn't waste time in ordering my own. I opted for the classic, because it just seemed to be an even more natural distortion than the british. I have never been let down by it. It was the first pedal I bought that was completely perfect.

This pedal will improve any setup

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic Tube Distortion Pedal:

I bought this pedal after having owned the british distortion version. While that pedal is great in it's own right, this version of classic distortion is the most versatile pedal I own. I use this pedal on clean to made the tubes in my amp more glassy. I use the moderate distortion for a very warm, defined rhythm. I use high gain for a great, lead sound. I also use this pedal as an overdrive to fatten up an already great distortion on my Peavey JSX amp. The greatest thing about this pedal is how it does not color your sound. A strat sounds like a strat with all the dynamics intact. A high output humbucker doesnt fart out your speakers. In addition this pedal is the quietest overdrive/ distortion I've come across. Not a job well done... ...a job done right.

Old Bones to Pick

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic Tube Distortion Pedal:

I've owned and tried dozens of dirt boxes and the Tone Bone Classic is easily in the top three. There's plenty of tweek-ability on tap and the tone is warm and musical. The Bone works best with an overdrive in front of it (think OCD) and tends to be a bit flat with out a little extra signal push. It's built like a tank and sounds great with just about any tube amp (I've got a Marshall and a Fender and it sounds great through both). Enough gain for blues to harder rock, but metalheads will have to look elsewhere; this is strictly 60's and 70's territory here. Highly recommended.

True Versatility

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic Tube Distortion Pedal:

I have owned this pedal for over six months now, and it has become a key piece of equipment. This pedal gives you endless possibilities with tone, you can get anything from a Rolling Stones type slight overdrive to crushing Pantera. This pedal has extremely tight distortion. It took me some time to find the sound that I like out of this pedal because the slightest tweak to a single knob changes the tone significantly. My only concern about this pedal is that there is alot of extra noise when you add in the high frequency, this could change if I replaced the tube inside.

Pretty tough

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic Tube Distortion Pedal:

This little box is a godsend. It can take a beating, the knobs are a little hard to turn, but that's to prevent from moving your settings drastically, because after all it still is something you step on. I use this little guy to warm up the 5150 I'm using. It brings a nice bright midsy type sound that I like. I use an EQ still just to roll a little bit of the brightness off. I even ran this before a PODxt just to see how it would sound, and it even warmed up the digital settings I had. Overall, it's a very good investment. It's tough, tube driven, true bypass, and not to mention versatile. I can dial in any tone from this badboy. From warm blues to crushing metal. Right now I have it on the warmest midsy setting, so when I play solos I get that really squeezed Bohemian Rhapsody solo type brian may sound. This is the only piece of equipment I didn't have to think twice about. And neither should you.

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic Tube Distortion Pedal:

I play a fender tele through a fender hot rod deville, and I was unhappy with the overdrive of the fender amp. Just doesn't sound great. I tried a Boss overdrive pedal and it was so noisy it was unusable. This pedal does the trick to perfection. So many voicings with this pedal, and it's built like a brick. If you've been looking for that pedal to give your licks just the right amount of crunch, get this pedal right now. I guarantee you won't regret it.

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic Tube Distortion Pedal:

Rugged construction, with a great sound. I love the hot bite and classic rock tone I get with this pedal. I use it through a solid state Marshall combo amp and it sounds better than I thought it would. I can't imagine it gets much better, unless played through a tube amp. But to get real close to the tone you're looking for without spending thousands, this is very close and worth the money. LOTS of variations with all the settings, too.

Comments about Radial Engineering Tonebone Classic Tube Distortion Pedal:

This is the best sounding and most versatile pedal I've ever used. I have tons of pedals. I have a EH Graphic EQ, British Muffin, Big Muff, Tube Screamer, DS-1 and on an on - but this one is just so easy to get lots of great tones out of. It's far above the rest.
