I see a lot of people knocking not just this noise suppressor/gate, but a lot of them...mostly based on poor knowledge of how to use one. I tried on of these out and based on my experience with it, I'm ordering one. Previously, I have been a long-time Boss NS-2 user. The way to use one of these with a high gain rig is to make it the first thing in your signal chain. This allows you to set it with the least amount of suppression/gating to just kill hum, hiss, and unwanted string noise from finger sliding for example. Next in your chain, run your compressor, then into a preamp or whatever else. Most people complaining about this pedal probably run it last in their chain, after they have increased the gain and signal degradation with other effects and made the noises and hiss and hum harder to eliminate. If your hiss is run through a distortion or fuzz, now your gate must work harder to remove the actual hum or hiss because it has been increased in gain and the wave form is more distorted.Put it first! You will be able to use lighter settings! Now, if your using incredibly high gain settings (I play industrial and love high gain, percussive tones/sounds myself), the way to tighten your sound is use a SECOND noise suppressor (again, with lighter settings) either at the end of your chain--or at least post distortion--just to tighten up sound decay really. My chain goes noise gate, compressor, tube preamp, distortion pedal and into my amp...a digital modeling amp which has a built in noise gate and compressor of its own. My noise gate at the start of my chain does far less work than if it were at the end of the chain. Most of the time, I don't even need to use the one on my amp, just use its compressor to tighten things up.The trick is to kill unwanted noise at the start so that the only noises that get to your distortion pedal and amp in the first place are the things you want heard...not the hum from lights or your fingers sliding on strings. Don't want to lose tone? Buy this pedal...and use it first in your chain. As soon as mine comes in, it will be the noise suppressor of choice in my pedal board! Works fantastic and it doesn't kill tone at all. Besides, if you need to, running your signal into an EQ or preamp from your gate will butter up your tone. Little tube home recording preamps work great for this even on your pedal board.

I bought this with the hope it would eliminate the hum I get from my pickups (emg 81s). When I bought this I was surprised how well it was built, metal housing felt VERY sturdy, this pedal is built to last. I also was happily surprised by the battery compartment, very easy access and simple, so far so good. Once I tried it out all these good attributes go out the window. All it did was cut the volume, with the knob on 10 I still got hum, it was only harder to hear. I returned it the next day and got the Boss, which does what I wanted this to do. If I go rack noise gates/reduction I would try out the Rocktron Super C rack unit first, but this pedal was a huge disappointment.

Comments about Rocktron HUSH Noise Reduction Pedal:
I have had this in my chain for maybe 2 years and I haven't had any problems with it. I put this at the end of my chain into a fender hot rod amp and I have a distortion pedal and an overdrive pedal running behind it with a mxr m108 and I keep it at about 9 o' clock and it blocks out any noise I have if you crank it up all the way you do lose volume but its not a tone sucker its a pretty good piece of gear. I don't know why this thing gets such bad cred it works for me and my b rig just fine, but haters gone hate.

I have the 2 threshold model and it is awesome. I have this in my effects loop on my Marshall vs100 valvestate head. It eliminates the hum from the OD channels with one threshold. Also have a theshold set for the clean channel. Always have it in the efx loop after the distortion and before the modulation/delay efx. I also have 2 voodoolab power supply's. The marshall is powered through the voodoolab conditioner. Between the combo I have a really silence setup. I'm running a 95 PRS CE24 with Celestion g12t-75 celestion 4x12 cabinet. If this broke I would buy 2 of these pedals to make up for it. The only other noise reduction I would try is the ISP Decimator G string.

I read some fantastic reviews so i purchased one only to find out the unit performed poorly. Its true about cutting the volume and tone. If you have a serious problem with noise from your rig this unit is not your fix. I tried every configuration with less that favorable results, and thats my 2cents
The features were nice..very easy to use right out of the box
Built very well. I wouldn't be worried if idropped this unit. Its not going to break.
Because of its poor performance..the price should be adjusted

With only the one threshold knob it is simple to use and works as advertised. This pedal is good for the money, though I do not like the fact that is has the plastic style input/output jacks. Other than the jacks the construction is sturdy. As far as noise cancellation it kills noise from high gain pedals like crazy, though when you have a really high gain pedal and the drive or distortion is all the way up, even with the Hush's threshold maxed out, some hissing still seeps through. but for the most part this pedal works great. I play it with strats and teles and can finally enjoy noise free playing! So unless you are set on using unnecessary amounts of gain (and by unnecessary I mean maxxed) this would be a great pedal for you. Also, I would like to note that it does not suck the tone out of any of my instruments even when I have four or five different pedals on at one time. Rocktron makes a great product and I will recommend them to anyone.
Comments about Rocktron HUSH Noise Reduction Pedal:
Overall I have noticed a greatly reduced hiss coming from a variety of amps and guitars.
The features make this an attractive product. I for one dont want a bunch of knobs and switches to try and figure out. This pedal comes with one knob...easy set-up, and back to playing the songs.
A well built and solid foot pedal, although it takes up a bit of board space. The switches and jacks all seem sound and I've had no issues with them whatsoever. I bought mine used for 60 usd...and for that price it is very nice. Compare this price to others and you'll see what I mean.
Comments about Rocktron HUSH Noise Reduction Pedal:
this pedal must be meant for tube amps
this pedal dosent quietly do what it says when you engage it ...it enhances your tone taken out the bottum end sound it took my loud hiss down to a lite hum on the distortion sound
the more you turn the knob the more you cut off your tone
this pedal must be meant for tube amps only
good
Comments about Rocktron HUSH Noise Reduction Pedal:
This pedal works very well especially for the money. It seems to be very well built and sturdy. And when you hit the button, silence, beautiful silence.
Comments about Rocktron HUSH Noise Reduction Pedal:
not bad at noise reduction - but totally kills your tone - ultimately not useable
Comments about Rocktron HUSH Noise Reduction Pedal:
Great, simple pedal. Well-built. One dial = moron-proof. Low price. My buddy bought the Boss Noise Gate ... it has 3-4 dials, and he can't figure out how to get it to do what it's made to do ... it actually CREATES noise. The Hush pedal takes 3-4 seconds to set up, and you're good to go. Plus, c'mon, that blue light is COOL...
Comments about Rocktron HUSH Noise Reduction Pedal:
I have owned one of thses for like 10 years or more and works wonders if you set it up right. I have the old 2 threshold model. if The broke I would buy 2 of these. First thise thing goes after the distortion and noise making pedals and eq. Then to effects like delay and chorus reverb because if the hush is after it will chop off the lower volume modulation effects they create. Also should be in the effects loop becasue it does take the hum out of your amp. I had this in the effects look of my marshall solid state head similar to the mg series out now. It totally cleaned up the hum in the overdrive channels then the second threshold on the old one can be set lower for clean channels that still hum. Another wonderous items that i have the works great in conjunction with this is my Voodoo Lab Pedal Power conditioned power supply to run this and all of the other effects more silently using a regulated power supply.
