I also own a EH Soul Preacher, a DOD Milkbox, a BBE Opto Stomp and a Behringer CS400. All have different feels to them, but by trying them all, I was able to find uses for the varying types of compression. This isn't a low-compression style pedal, because it allows you to squish quite a bit. The more you turn up the compress knob, the more dominant the bass freqs get with this pedal. The more you dial back the attack, the more 'pop' you get, until you get to 0 on the dial. So you can create a rough edge, squished compression tone that almost sounds like overdrive and would suite metal heads for pushing their amps, or a chicken picker for getting snappy single line leads. However, I personally want to just use it to subtly bring up my attack and to even out my whole freq spectrum - I actually want to boost a my highs a bit and cut the low-lows.The reason for the name of my review is because this pedal can do this as well! With the compress dial at 0, you still get compression - the 'evening out of the eq' compression I wanted. It brought my highs up and tightened the lower end, but without actually losing any low-end freqs (the DOD Milkbox is great, but it does cut out the low-end when active). With attack at zero, this guy sounds like a transparent compression, like the BBE Opto Stomp with it's compression at about 25% (meaning the Opto Stomp can be subtler than the Rogue, if that's what you're looking for.). It IS noisy (just like my EH Soul Precher), but since you can dial out most of the compression on the Rogue, it dials out most of the noise as well. On the Soul Preacher, sustain at 0 is still very compressed and thus very noisy. This Rogue is now on my gigging pedal board, just behind my wah-pedal because it also helps to control the 'ice-picky over-shrills' that sometime come out of my wah.I mostly play rhythm gtr in a honky-tonk-ish band. I like the cleaner fender amp tones. This pedal is great for giving me a nice little taste of edgy bite as I work the up-beats.

This is a decent compressor for the money. It requires a properly conditioned power source, or it will be noisy. (The onboard power from one of my pedal boards buzzed, another board's doesn't.) The effect is okay, but a few days after buying the Rogue I bit the bullet and bought the exceptionally good Keeley compressor... which is what I should've done in the first place. Oh well, sometimes trying to save money works out, sometimes it ends up costing you more. (By the way, I use the Rogue Analog Delay for slapback, and I love it. Some Rogue products do prove that you don't need to spend a lot to get a good pedal.)

Noise past 8 o'clock. Like the Behringer CS300 better, but the Rogue has more sustain. A noise reduction pedal may help - haven't gotten that far yet.

Comments about Rogue Vintage Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:
I don't usually write reviews on gear unless I've had something for a few months, but I'll make an exception, because this isn't really a review. I got this pedal for the very limited purpose of boosting clean leads. I'm not the kind of guy who is ever going to pay over a hundred bones for a glorified volume knob and this was dirt cheap. I'll never put a 9 volt in it because it's on a pedal board, so I don't have to disassemble it, lol.
But for those who have read the comments that it's noisy on some pedal boards, I just wanted to let you know that it seems fine on a Gator.
I basically use it with a pretty fast attack, a bit of sustain, and a ton of gain, so it's my cheap glorified volume knob. If it falls apart in 2 months I'll let you know. Well, no I probably won't. I'm not organized enough to remember to do that.
Ok, here's a quick review: It costs as much as lunch with my wife, and it's way more fun.
[I apologize for having to type "bones" up there...for some reason, the electronic gatekeeper of this review will not let me make any references to money or d o l l a r s ...]

this is one of the worst products ive bought. Ive had two and returned them both. the first one lasted four months then the pedal wouldnt work on DC without hissing. I got a new one and it did the same thing. Save your money and stay away.

Comments about Rogue Vintage Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:
This little compressor sounds so good! It has that perfect "don't know what it does but miss it when it's off" sound that a good compressor should have. It's subtle and surprisingly quiet. Sounds better to me than my rhythm guitarist's wampler. If this thing holds up to my show schedule, it's the last compressor I'll ever buy. Unless I hit it big and can afford to buy American.

Comments about Rogue Vintage Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:
Never used a compressor before, but this was definetely worth the price.....cleaned up the tone and added a boost which was very nice....very pleased with this purchase actually just used it in gig. Only had it about 3 weeks so far, no complaints. Just cleans up the sound and makes it much more sharper. I also bouth the Rogue Chorus at the same time, and it does a decent job, but more pleased with the compressor. Can't go wrong with this one!

Comments about Rogue Vintage Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:
Is a great and cheap alternative to the MXR, Boss, EH, and such. Works great with guitars for clean to crunchy tones. I don't use it much with distortion but can help to beef-up whimpy overdrive pedals or amps. Is a solid pedal and on the small side. The switch is actually horrible as it is very mechanically noisy and quite hard. Also I hate the fact that the battery compartment has four small screws, so change the battery is not a snap. Overall a good surprise for the sound quality vs. the low price.

Comments about Rogue Vintage Compressor Guitar Effects Pedal:
I was very impressed by this compressor. I have a gig the same day it came it went straight on to my pedal board. I use it primarily for rockabilly sound in conjuction with slapback. Sounds very good.
