If I was stranded on an island with my guitar and I could only have 1 effect pedal the Snarling Dogs "Blues Bawls" would be the one. The Blues Bawls basically is four in one. 3 wahs and a very high quality overdrive. The overdrive is probably the best I've ever heard out of a tube simulator pedal. It is so middle of the road you could use it almost anywhere drive is needed. It has enough gain to make false harmonics sing and cause some controlled feedback, but it can be peeled back enough for just some edge to your tone. There are 3 wah effects; white room, shaft and voodoo. White room has a lot of low end and a very sudden swell at the bottom of the pedal sweep. This gives you a full fat tone with a sudden and intense WAH! at the bottom. White Room works nicely with a clean tone for a Jerry Garcia sound or Regae solos. Shaft has a very even sweep with alot of throaty mids, I found that if left tilted back when is the Shaft mode it makes a "tool" like tone if used as a filter. Shaft also works nicely for slow rythym sweeps. Voodoo is the last setting and is high mids with a sharp attack. I like this setting for screaming false harmonics, unison bends and making my guitar flat out wail. You get all of this in one tank like like pedal for an incredible price. EASE OF USE TIP: Wear flip flops so you can arch your toes over the wah rocking plate to hit the distortion button.

The Blues Bawls pedal sounded great, but after a few days of regular usage one of the wires that connected the lights in the pedal broke. Then the other one did. Then the pedal wouldn't turn on. If it was just the lights that had problem I would give this pedal a good review, but sadly this is not the case. This is a great sounding pedal, so if you are willing re-wire the pedal to protect it from shorting out, go for it, but if you are like me you will just go with a good old dunlop or a morley, both are good choices. Too bad.

Snarling Dogs Wah pedal

By Tall guy

from Fleming, Colorado

So I was ordering my marshall 100W dfx halfstack today at the music store, and hearing some reviews that some of the effects sucked, I remembered playing a snarling dog the other week when tryin out pedals. I loved the wah, and the distortion was great, all the crazy spins I can put on riffs now I love. The button for the distortion I can easily hit with my toe playin barefoot, the one to activate the wah, you have to reach to, though I really dont mind since drawin back the pedal pretty much takes it off. Needless to say, this is a great pedal, and is most definatley worth its money, and goes good with my turbo flange

DONT BUY THIS PIECE !!!

By FBluesBawls

This pedal sounds awesome, right until it literally falls apart. Took mine 2 months of very light use to do so. I loved it at first. Then the wah selecter stopped working, then the volume knob fell off, then the foot switch stopped working. Now I have a quiet fuzz pedal (notice fuzz is not one of it's features) that buzzes incessantly. Make sure to get a soldering iron if you are going to buy this piece of crap. Stop being cheap and get a wah from a company you've heard of.

I've had it for a few months now and this pedal is great. The overdrive is wonderful and responds to your playing dynamics very much like a tube amp (awesome for the blues). The wah is also excellent; the range of motion in this pedal is unheard of. My favorite is the 'white room' setting; it's so thick sounding, the 'voodoo' sounds great as well, and the 'shaft' setting is my least favorite, but if you like funk, I'm sure you'll like it. Overall good buy, the only problem I had was with the wire for the led light for the wah broke, but this does not affect its performance.

Exceeded expectations in every way

How can you not like this pedal? The Blue Bawls is larger than I thought, it's a foot long, and weighs about 8-10 pounds and is built like a TANK!! I can't imagine this thing breaking if you threw it across the stage. Good looks and high quality aside, it's 3 different wahs, plus overdrive in one. I know of no other pedal offering so much for this price. The wahs are great. Being a classic rock/blues guy, the Voodoo and White Room wahs are closer to my genre. I'm not a super high gain type, but when you hit that OD on a tube amp you sure can nail it.When I ordered it, I thought if it doesn't work out I can always return it. But I can't return it. It offers too much for the price, and it's just too cool to not have around.I like unique stuff too. I don't necessarily want gear that every other guy has. There's something about the Blue Bawls that just works. It's a keeper.

Beats My Other Wah By A Mile

This pedal makes even my cheapest electric sound better. I can get a good O/D sound from the built in O/D that I can't even get with my other O/D pedals. This is actually a clean O/D. The three settings for wah are great. All give a unique sound and I can get good sounds even from a little MicroCube on Blackface. When I play it through my VOX AC30 it is great. Hey even the eyes light up and it's glow in the dark. Kidding aside, this is a great pedal that weighs a ton, is built sturdy, built to last, and sounds great. Only problem is like every one else's and that is the switch for the O/D is kinda hard to reach unless your barefooted; but that's not really a problem. Hey it's supposed to be a wah pedal not O/D, the O/D is just a nice added feature, so I can deal with having to reach down or reach around and click the O/D switch if needed.

Cool, versatile wah pedal

By Le Guy

from Atlanta, GA

I just received this from Musician's Friend about a week ago. So far, I am very impressed. Everything works properly and seems rugged and road-worthy. I like the "voodoo" wah setting the best so far but the other two are cool as well. The wah switch is quite stiff. It can be difficult to engage sometimes. I hope this will "break in" as the bumper pad at that end of the pedal board gets compressed. The "bloo doo" distortion is very reminiscent of a "tube screamer" TS-9 but has more range. You can get more distortion out of it than a TS-9 which I like, or you can boost the volume with virtually no distortion and not much coloration. It can be quite hissy if you turn the volume way up to overdrive your amp though. I haven't been able to compare it to a TS-9 to see if it hisses more or less. It may be no worse. Note that I am not talking about the +18 Db boost feature, I'm talking about the volume control for the "bloo doo" distortion.Overall, it seems like a great value at this time since it currently costs just $10 more than the base model Crybaby, and it has many more features.

A better sounding Wah pedal

Ask me a question

I like this pedal 100 times better that my Vox pedal. It has nice low end, more range overall, and true bypass. It's great to be able to "shape" your wah with the selector switch. I haven't used the overdrive feature at all. I play it through a Marshall TSL 122 and I get enough drive and gain with the amp alone. In my opinion, a GREAT pedal!I use A.C. power to it and no hiss or hum.

I wish we could rate at

By Stephen S.

A fantastic-sounding pedal, in all respects. All 3 wah settings are usable and classic in tone. They truly sound like the tunes they're named after. The overdrive (Blue Doo) is so organic in tone that it has replaced the Boss SD-1 in my pedalboard. It is extremely dynamic and responsive to your playing.

Buy It!!!

By TAM-hTUac

from Illinois

A long time ago I used to have the Snarling Dogs Super Bawl Fire Bawl Wah which was discontinued and then I sold it to get a Crybaby Classic, which isn't all that great. I missed the Fire Bawl so I went looking to see what SD had for newer models. What a pleasant suprise. This Blues Bawl pedal is simply awesome. The 3 different wahs (which the Fire Bawl didn't have) all sound great and the added Blue Doo distortion is also perfect. I promise you will love this pedal, and for around the same price as a Crybaby it does so much more.
