My first impression of the Snarling Dogs Bootzilla wah pedal was great, but after a bit of use, it's a little lower. First, the wah by itself sounds great. I play this through a Fender Jazz and Eden amp. The "wah" sound is beefy and can definitely cut. The low, mid, high selector comes in handy, but I personally would like the frequency range of each to be a little wider. Also, you get a "pop" when switching frequency ranges and when engaging the wah. If you have a buffered output pedal in the loop maybe it will fix that? The fuzz by itself is pretty good. However, turning on the wah and fuzz together is completely unusable. It almost seems like the two effects are fighting eachother and canceling frequencies. With both engaged, the wah effect is completely gone. Instead, moving the pedal seems to actually change the pitch in a weird sort of way, not giving you "wah". I used to own a Morley Power Wah Fuzz (big vintage chrome one), and THAT is how a wah with fuzz is supposed to sound. This is not that big of a deal for me because I would rather use my own overdrive and fuzz pedal in front of the wah instead. But, one of the reasons I bought this pedal is so I could have both effects in one pedal (and active at the same time)!Overall construction seems good. However, after 10 minutes out of the box, it started to squeak, which was fixed with a little grease. Aesthetically, the pedal looks great and the LED lights are cool.I think this pedal sounds great compared to other bass wah pedals, so I think it has good value. I've owned the Crybaby 105q but the pedal spring and not having the toe switch were annoying to me. This is much better. However, I have to knock it because the wah and fuzz sound like junk when used at the same time. If that wasn't an issue, I might have given it a 5 out of 5.

If you're looking for a 2 in 1 peddle, this is not it
Bought it hoping to consolidate fuzz and wah (on a budget). Ended up buying a big muff in addition to this because the wah and fuzz can't be used together (no wah effect with the fuzz on). The switch for the fuzz isn't really accessable, so another reason to have a fuzz box in addition to this peddle. The wah effect is good and the the hi mid and lo settings are nice, but it does produce a very noticable hiss, also, produces a pop whenever it's turned on. Only issue with construction I've had is the retaining nut on the input backing off

Ask me a question

I gig every weekend, switching the wah off/on there is a pop in the circuit. I had to add a volume pedal to eliminate that. Within days of the warranty expiring, the pedal became loose. I wrote the company several times, they NEVER contacted me. I took it apart & there is a resistance adjustment inside the pedal. It was easy to fix. The pedal is not bad, nice wah range & the fuzz is OK if you use it while overdriving your amp manually as well. I WILL NOT buy another Snarling Dog product because of the poor customer service. I wasn't asking for anything other than for them to tell me how to repair the tension on the pedal. Too bad for them.

Good Buy

By Peter-XO56-

This is my first pedal and I love it. The wah is amazing. It sounds better then Vox's wah pedal for guitar. My only complaint is about the fuzz. Lower notes are fuzzier then higher notes are. This isn't that big of a deal because it still sounds great. This may be the sturdiest pedal ever built. It is a tank. The pedal doesn't squeak or anything and I can put all my weight on it and its fine. Overall this is an outstanding pedal. I highly recommend it.

One bad pedal

When I got this pedal and plugged it in I could not believe how awesome it sounded. Being able to choose the low to high setting set's it apart. The low is awesome for more slower bass lines and the high is perfect when using a lot of slaping and poping. The Fuzziness control is just plain awesome. The only thing is it takes a while to set it up just right. But overall the best pedal I have ever owned.

A must own if you need a bass wah.

Just recently went on a pedal buying frenzy trying to find/shape my sound. Briefly gave a few auto-wah pedals a shot, but decided I'm too much of a control freak and I prefer the control a true wah pedal gives. Immediately went with the Dunlop Bass Cry Baby primarily due to the Cry Baby namesake, but I wasn't impressed. Hardly any dynamics too it and it just seemed rather plain. Similarly, the Cry Baby always returns to the same origin/default point on the effect, which I wouldn't have noticed how much of a flaw this is until I played with the Bootzilla. The Bootzilla however, exceeded my expectations and I knew within an hour how much of a bargain the Bootzilla is and how much more of a wah pedal it truly is compared to the Cry Baby. In fairness, I haven't tried any other true bass wah besides these two, but I am so pleased with the dynamics (basically, two pedals in one - fuzz with full control, and wah with high/mid/low + control), engineering (build like the proverbial tank), price range, and most importantly sound, that I can safely say I have found my wah for my effects chain and need look no further. If you are considering which bass wah to purchase, and want to get the most bang for your buck, and an almost endless dialability, I strongly suggest you forget the rest and go with the Bootzilla. I guarantee you'll be glad you took my advice.

Sweet pedal for a while.

By Bassmanguything

This pedal is mean. It's just nasty. I used it quite a bit for a few months, and LOVED it. The fuzz and wah do mix, as long as you keep the fuzz down. They also sound awesome seperately. Unfortunately, it is not designed/built well at all. Within weeks the pedal became loose, a few months and the whole thing just fell apart.

this an amazing sounding pedal. the wah is amazing with the three low mid high ranges for different ways of finding your sounds. and the level of fuzz low and high is fantastic. i use this on my tele too and it hold us well with a very boomy and powerfull sound that i adore.recently the screws on the in/out inputs are getting loose but im sure i can just tighten them and that will be done with.great pedal and will help you feel & sound like the bootzilla himself

Cool at first...

I got this baby for Christmas and it sounded great. The wah and fuzz both sounded great by themselves, but did not mix well, but I still loved this pedal. But over the six months I have owned this pedal, it has kind of fallen apart. The wah first required me to use rubber bands so it would stay up, and then the actual wah part broke, so now I can only use the fuzz. I have also broken the screw where the battery goes so there is no way to close the battery. I mean it sounds great, but in the end it fell apart way too soon to have been worth the money.

It Was BROKEN!!!!!!

By Matthew Casbah

from Mass

It did not come with a power source (ac adapter or 9v battery)and after about 30 minutes of use the plastic piece that connects the pedal to the base broke off. I was not being rough with it at all in fact I was being gentle. I will admit it did sound good when it worked though. I have returned mine and I am waiting for my replacement.

killer wah.

By rick northfarm

from pleasanton ca

i purchased this wah pedal from this site a matter of months ago. plugging it in i was quite caught off guard. the pedal glows in the dark so onstage you never lose track of where it is, and the eyes of the dog on the top of the pedal light up so you know if wah/fuzz is activated. the wah has 3 settings which gives you a diverse selection of wah tones. BUT- the fuzz is horrible. you lose all definition of whats being played and your tone turns into a wall of noise. i would pay 50 dollars more for the pedal even if it just had wah. definetly an amazing investment if youre looking for a good wah.
