OVERVIEW

Guitar EQ with smart features.

The Source Audio Programmable EQ is a thoroughly modern and highly streamlined upgrade to traditional equalizer pedals. This compact, rugged, cast aluminum stompbox provides quick, hands-free access to four different user programmed EQ settings. Whatever your instrument, playing style, or genre, the Source Audio Programmable EQ is the essential tone-sculpting tool for your live rig.

The Programmable EQ packs plus or minus 18dB of range over seven frequency bands, plus an additional frequency band at 62Hz, accessible via the Octave Extend function. Engaging the Octave Extend systematically optimizes the pedal’s frequency spectrum to accommodate the specific frequency range of the bass. Once you’ve dialed in the desired guitar or bass tone, save it in one of four programmable user presets. Each preset is easily accessible via the hands-free footswitch scrolling function. Simply hold down the footswitch and let the pedal scroll through each preset at an adjustable rate – release to engage. The pedal’s MIDI input also provides remote access to user presets or engages/disengages the effect. Run a MIDI signal from your POD, Eventide Space reverb, TC Nova System or any other MIDI compatible multi-effects unit and vastly expand your tone horizon within each preset.

The Programmable EQ offers a substantial clean boost of up to 12dB. Use the clean boost for an entirely transparent volume increase or go further and give your amp the front-end push needed for an aggressive natural break-up. The relay-based true bypass footswitch provides improved reliability, remote switching capabilities, and a completely unaffected, hard wire signal in bypass mode. As a bonus, the Auto-scrolling function, which automatically scrolls between all four presets at an adjustable rate, creates unique and dramatic effects similar to sequencer or tremolo units.

Comments about Source Audio Programmable EQ:

Good concept, though the real world applications fell short for me. Ordered two units at the same time. First one tested yielded a high freq white noise when engaged while passing no instrument signal. Bypassing and re-engaging the unit occasionally solved the problem, but defect was obvious and consistent. Second unit tested did not exhibit the same deficiency as the first, though had a noticeably sterile and synthetic tone when engaged. Even with EQ flat and gain at unity, one can really hear the difference between bypassed and engaged signal. I am very familiar with the difference between a buffered and non-buffered signal, and the buffer issue did not account for the sterilized tone and embrittled dynamic response. Also, a device like this would be great to be able to power from a battery, eliminating the need for an adaptor IF this is the only device before your preamp. You CAN, technically, power this via battery... though it's pretty ravenous in its power appetite. You're lucky to get two hours of battery life before it fails, suddenly and without warning. It will still pass a distorted signal following failure, though it's not a desirable outcome. A lot of the SA stuff I've tried still feel and sound a bit like toys that aren't really ready for prime time. Nice that you can backpage it down to the bass realm, though again, tone and dynamics are lacking. Surprisingly low headroom with active PUs. Just my opinion. Hope this helps.

Comments about Source Audio Programmable EQ:

If you are looking to add flexibility in crafting your tone, this pedal flat out "Rocks"! Easy to set up 4 preprogrammed settings depending on the song, and the tone you need.
Here's an example... I will go from Robert Cray to Billy Gibbons to SRV..in the first 3 songs in our set list. For Cray I'll cut the lower range, scoop the 500 and boost 1K... Done!
Just by adjusting your frequencies you have a completely different vibe!!
King of Tone, Hand-wired Tube Screamer,Keeley Compressor, EQ, Analogman Chorus, EP Boost... Then either of my Fargen amps or my Hayes Lil Jenny.... "Play' the Blues.... The SoulShine Blues Band-Calif.

Comments about Source Audio Programmable EQ:

I felt compelled to ensure this product is accentuated by a five star visual. What a difference! Boosts are great, but I was seeking a way to match my single coil to my humbucker guitar on the fly without having to readjust the array of pedals that would require it. A boost would have taken care of that, but why not tailor the boost's character? Enter an EQ. There are other EQs that would do the job, but what sold me on this one is the preset feature. Four presets isn't 100, but they're better than one. One set of non-programmable sliders would necessitate an on-the-fly readjustment or only one guitar would receive the EQ treatment. With this, obviously, there's more flexibility. OK. So... that aside, how is the sound? Here's what I didn't know: this EQ (and possibly all good ones) make me never want to turn it off. There's lots of room for radical retoning, but the subtlest shifts make the non-EQed version sound like cardboard. What a difference! What a difference! This is probably my gateway EQ. From this point forward, I will never buy another boost. I will only EQ my signal chain. I hope it lasts. It's digital. I can't attest to its road-worthiness yet. I don't foresee any problem. I don't notice any latency. Have been raised on digital for half my life, so I'm less finicky than those who swear they are thrown off by digital processing, or who denounce it as cold or sterile.
