OVERVIEW

All-in-one guitar effects extravaganza.

The Nova System is the complete, floor-based effects solution for the dedicated guitar player who knows quality when he sees it. Its unique inclusion of an all-analog programmable distortion/overdrive section under preset and expression control makes it the perfect choice whether you want to trim down your rack setup, step up from your pedal patchwork or simply just want the ultimate combination of operational simplicity and audio superiority.

Add to this an array of effects taken straight from the king of floor-based multi-effect processors; G-System and you have top-notch compression, EQ, noise gate, modulation, pitch, delay and reverb right at your feet. All you need is a guitar and an amp and you're good to go - first class.

Genuine, Analog Drive Circuit

What makes Nova System so remarkably different is the NDT - Nova Drive Technology - a unique drive and distortion circuit that gets you the best of both worlds: World-class analog distortion and overdrive with digital control. This is the real deal - no modeling. While the NDT is 100 percent analog and physically separated from the digital effects, its control potmeters are digital. This way you can tweak, store and recall as many drive settings as you want - you can even hook up an expression pedal and control the amount of distortion in real-time. Its wide gain range covers your every need from light breakup to heavy distortion.

Top-notch Effects

Equipped with TC branded quality effects from delays and reverbs to compressor, EQ and modulation, the TC Electronic Nova System is the obvious all-in-one effect processor for any guitarist who wants setup simplicity without sacrificing tonal fidelity. All neatly programmable and storable in 60 user presets. Its 30 factory presets give you a demonstration of just what the Nova System provides; great sound quality and an immense versatility of effects combinations - all designed to get you started right out of the box.

I use mine two ways. In the loop on a Boogie DC-3 and in front of a Deluxe Reverb. I found editing the Nova easier than most multi pedals. Buttons for everything, lots less menu scrolling. I also use the software developed by users that can be found on the TC forum. That makes it really easy and you can quickly edit and name patches. Some reviewers have said it's noisy and I have not experienced that. The sound quality has been well covered and I'll agree, it's really good. My DC-3 has gain for days and beautiful tube reverb and I don't need anything in front. I don't even use the boost. Just a little compression and occasional chorus and sometimes I'll go really crazy and get my David Gilmour on with some delay. On the Deluxe reverb I run it in front and use the overdrive and boost for gain tones and solos. With an expression pedal, you can really tweak on the fly. For instance you can set it up to control the gain on the overdrive. Half way down for crunchy and all the way down for searing solo. The only thing that bugs me is the lights. Super bright on a dark stage and impossible to see which button is which so you have to memorize them. Also the tap tempo light gets annoying. Might be way to adjust that but I haven't figured it out yet. I've owned and still own Line 6 stuff and a huge Pedaltrain with some pretty expensive stomps. This works better.

I was intrigued by the button layout of this pedal. Based on that and my previous good experiences with TC products, I bought one. On the surface, it looks to be simple and intuitive to operate. I found that was not the case. Not only that, but I really did not care for the distortion. My objective was to get ONE pedal that did 90% of my effects needs, thereby lessening my cabling and hook-up hassle. It is nowhere near that ideal.Yes, the reverbs are nice, but not the stellar quality I expect from TC. The chorus was a real disappointment, and that's coming from a guy who LOVES the TC analog chorus. (which I have used for almost three decades now on numerous major label albums, including some platinum albums you probably have heard.)The delays are great... but i was dismayed to hear so much noise from this thing. It wasn't as bad as some pedals out there, but I really expected more from TC.I also had problems getting help on the user forums. The guys at TC were fairly quick to respond, usually within 24 hours. So I would consider that good service from such a famous company, especially considering that they are located across the Atlantic in a completely different time zone. I never did get my issues resolved though. I think the product was too new at that time and they weren't completely aware of all the issues with it.Well, I still love my other TC stuff, and mean no disrespect, but this pedal seems like a stock-box they stuffed full of spare software. The analog TC chorus still rules for sound quality and low noise. I love my G-Major too. But this is no substitute. It isn't horrible, but it is not a one-stop solution and it isn't worth the price.

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I have owned a lot of expensive gear, but this is the only useful unit that is easy to set up and sounds good that I have settled with. Sure you can get crazy stuff, but you probably won't use 95% of the effects. The effects in this are useful and easy to set up. Did I mention the overdrive and distortion is analog?

I would recommend this for any type of music as long as you are using an amp. I use Mesa amps, therefore I don't use the distortion on this unit (but I have used it before). If you are planning to not use an amp, this unit is not ideal to plug and play directly into the sound system.

Hope this helps. Read the manual before you purchase and be realistic about the effects that you need.
Let me start off by saying that I had expensive rack effects (Axe FX Ultra, G-major 2 etc), super high end guitar pedals, expensive multi effects pedals (had the Boss GT8 back in the day when it was the latest and greatest), and I have owned Vox AC30, Mesa Nomad, Dual Rectifier, Roadster, Hughes and Kettner Duotone etc. I am SUPER picky with my gear, and I expect high quality effects.

What I love about this unit is the fact that all the effects are useful. I am a delay fanatic, and I love the delay options this pedal has to offer. It is easy to set up and configure. All the features this pedal has are useful. It can be set up multiple ways (stompbox style, preset style) to adjust to all your needs.
Exceptional quality. I wish the knobs were less flimsy, but I take care of it so I have no problems. I keep it in a hard case at all times when I carry it around. The overall casing is metal, and the design is beautiful.
If you think about it, its like owning a bunch of different pedals (distortion, compressor, delay, tremolo etc), but they are all integrated into one unit. I put it in a case and carry it, and its super easy. I don't have to spend money on buying individual pedals and connection cables. I plug into one unit, and occupy one power supply. I love the simplicity.

If you are to buy all these effects separately, it would cost a lot of money. I give it full rating for value because its compact, built like a tank, easy to configure, and has high quality USEFUL effects.

Nova System Multi Effects Pedal

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

fffG
The tc elecronic Nova System is a programmable multi effects pedal with world class effects. 30 factory presets, 60 user presets. You can even download 44 presets from their website from people like Peter Thorn and Bumblefoot. Effects include tc electronic's world renowned chorus and delay, as well as multiple pitch, modulation, compression, reverb, dirt and boost functions. This pedal has allowed me to eliminate a massive pedalboard with thousands of dollars in boutique effects. If you're looking for amp modeling, you won't find it here, which is a plus IMHO. Suggest using a MIDI controller and expression pedal to get the most out of the unit.

Having owned similar units by Boss/Roland, Vox and Line 6 in the past, this is the best sounding unit with the easiest most intuitive programmability. Like the other units, most presets aren't that usable from the factory, but provide a good starting point.

Negatives? No on-off switch, no headphones out. Not deal breakers.

Great sounding unit. The EQ is stellar! it will really make your tone more pro. Yeah the chorus just fine with no problems at all,I think people dont know how to set it up right it sounds as good as my MXR stereo chorus. This wont tone suck either, I run it in my loops on my Fireball 100. No more patch cables to worry about, I love this unit!

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

It had all the things I was looking for, but didn't plan on several issues. If you want to adjust the compressor, I hope your a compression expert. The distortions in it are VERY Crunchy and not smooth at all. Lastly, it does generate a pretty good amount of line noise that couldn't be knocked out. This is because they didn't place the inboard noise suppressor last in the signal path. I'm not sure what their thinking was for doing that. Before this unit I had the Line 6 POD HD500X and experienced some of the same issues. The mother boards in these multi effects units are just not grounded that well to the chassis. On the plus side, There just isn't a chorus made in my opinion that competes with the Tri Chorus from TC Electronic. It is the fullest most warm sounding thing that must be heard. One last thing, I am a bit more critical of gear than the average user. So take all this with a grain of salt. I traded and went back to using individual effects. I do think it is worth a trial and maybe this product will work well for you.

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

In my opinion this is the best multi effect pedal on the market. I am comparing this to the following units that I have owned. Boss ME-70, DigiTech RP500, Line 6 POD HD500X, and Zoom G3X.

First, this is NOT a modeling unit (effect or amp) so if modeling is what you want this is not for you. The TC effects in this unit are superb as compared to the above, there aren't as many but the quality is far better.

The Line 6 had more features but the sound quality was very sterile and not what I hoped for. Additionally it required ALOT more set up time.

The reverbs, and modulation effects on the Nova are awesome, and the delays are amazing (lots of head room). The distortion and OD are analog and sound great, however if you are into new metal or thrash you probably wont care for them. This unit also works very well with other pedals, I have a Mad Professor Golden Cello that I use for lead tone.

Drawbacks: no volume pedal (just go by an ernie ball vp jr, and I would strongly suggest getting the G-switch or switch-3 to control the presets independently. But even with adding those you are still cheaper than the Line 6 POD 500x.

Lastly, the tuner, I already had a TC Polytune and have compared the tuner in the Nova, and they both are accurate. The polytune is a lot easier to read so that's what I use.

If you are into quality more than quantity this is the unit, the others seriously don't compare, esp. for the price. It's very simple to set up and use. Check out the videos on youtube and other reviews.

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

In a compact package one has a world of options with the superb quality of the TC Electronic brand. In my particular situation I need to program effects and be able to reacall them easily in a live situation and the Nova System does exactly that. The factory presets are not bombastic sonic useless waste. They "real world" usable just the right amount to use as they are or as great starting points to tailor to my own needs. It is logically set up so it is very easy to use. One can use it in an effects loop or straight into the front of the amp. I use it in the effects loop and in this manner I loose the drive and distortion of the unit but I have specific pedals that I rely on for that but I can tell you that the drive and distortion are very organic and analog sounding without any digital brittleness. It has replaced 75% of the pedals in my board with just one box. Playing live it has made my setting up and tearing down much simpler and being programable is the icing on the cake. It is also built like a tank.

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I play in a popular cover band around Colorado. I'm expected to emulate every tone from the Police to Sublime to U2 to Van Halen. My old pedal board consisted of two od pedals, a distortion pedal, two delays, a noisy analog chorus, tuner, phase shifter, wah and octave pedal. I was running the wah and od's direct and everything else thru efx loop. What a hassle! I tried this out one day in the store using the Drive input direct. I was impressed. Finally, a digitally controlled pedal with an analog distortion - love it. I went home, looked at some of the web pages on this pedal and was back at the store the next day when they opened to purchase it. I have been using the Nova System exclusively for six months now. I use a Fulltone wah in front of it and go direct in to a Mesa Electra Dyne head set at 45 watts to a 2x12 open back Blue Alnico cab. I love the Nova System - the delays are awesome - the tap tempo feature is bright and beautiful - the od goes from subtle tube screamer to raging fuzztones - I honestly can't think of an effect that doesn't sound good - and if you don't like the effect changing parameters is simple. As for a review that stated this was cheaply made, I don't think they're talking about this pedal. There are videos of cars running over this pedal on TC's site - it's a beast. Other than a software Here's what I would change: 1. Light up the effect button names. After a few uses, you'll have 'em memorized but...2. Make it easier to scroll thru effect settings - as it is, you have to bend over and change from a tape delay to an analog type effect. It would be nice to have an up down button - especially going from flanger to chorus and overdrive to distortion. 3. The effect is not active until AFTER you release the footswitch. It takes a bit to get used to and not a big deal but for most guitarists it's intuitive to engage the effect as soon as you depress the footswitch - not when you lift your foot off of it. It's a very robust pedal - this week I'll be using it direct to a Jam Hub when we rehearse on the road. Looking forward to learning even more what this pedal can do. Nice work TC. Very nice indeed.

Let me start by saying any effect is going to sound better with a good guitar and a tube amp. If you want that thick, punchy, rich sound, go tube amp. Now for this unit. I have gone the root of quality pedals, but you wind up tap dancing on stage. Programable effects are great. Set your reverb, delay and clean on one button. Set your crunch and wah on another button, etc. TC Nova effects sound great. The distortion is very good but not great. I prefer the distortion and crunch on my amp. I use a Hughes and Kettner 3 channel Tubemeister 36.
I will tell you another thing that is great about the Nova. I have midi on my amp, and Nova has midi. I connect a line to my amp from the Nova and program which channel I want, along with the effects that I want, on one button on the Nova. Awesome! The Nova becomes a midi switch. No more tap dancing.

Not very intuitive interface and the manual is confusing but trial and error is working it out. Sounds good enough to replace my boutique pedal board for local gigs.

I just bought this used and have to say it has killer sound to it! Im running it through my loop on my tube amp and it blew me away, not a fan of non valve distortion so that feature is useless to me, but the verbs are the best ive ever used and it sounds so musical i want another one maybe even two more for my other loops i can run on my amps. I am sold on tc the textures are so rich i love everything about this pedal.
              Well done
buy this if you like good sounding equipment, use it in an effect loop on a decent tube amp and it will blow you..............away

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

This unit is EXTREMELY well made. The craftsmanship is astounding, but I see the parameter knobs breaking off easily as they feel flimsy and cheap. When I first unpacked this thing and dialed in some patches, I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Of course when I took it to our rehearsal studio to seriously test drive it, it fell flat in every imaginable area.It sucked the life out of my tone, even with no effects on, and the thing doesn't have a BYPASS function (scary). There was so much volume loss, a 50 watt Marshall Half stack couldn't cut through the mix even with Nova's volume wide open. The modulation effects are horrid, especially the chorus (which isn't even musical).I was very happy to return this unit.

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

Overall ... Meh! I sold mine and will stick with my pedalboard when I need to use pedals. To be fair, I don't like to spend excessive amounts of time trying to make a multi effects unit sound good. That's what I pay good money and I expect something usable in return for my cash. Perhaps a larger investment in time would have yielded a better result, but I would rather spend my time playing than tinkering with effects.
I wanted to love it, but I just can't. I use a TC delay in my pedal board and I love it, so I thought this might be a good solution to venues that provide the backline. The problem I found was that some of the effects were too poor to use or ineffective. I could not get the overdrive or distortion to work without being incredibly noisy and even then the overdrive was not terrfic. The compressor was anemic and not usable for me. The chorus was ok but not as lush as I would like. I liked the reverb and echo, but that is to be expected from TC.
These guys makes nice stuff. I can find no fault with the quality. This unit is built like a tank. I love that it uses an AC cord, as I am totally allergic to wall warts and in-line power supplies. The shape is a little awkward as far as being able to find a decent bag or case to protect it.
The price is good given that it is a TC product with a lot of effects, but not so good for me given that I don't like it.

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

What a great find. I play a variety of guitars: Original Gene Baker, Parker Fly, Custom Strat, and an Ibanez Euphoria (acoustic electric) live and studio. I have been able to use the presets and variations to the max for all four guitars. Built like a tank, seamless effects transitions, typical TC quiet, very easy to program from scratch or edit. Even though I have a Dumble, Hermida Zen, Stampede, Tube Screamer...the OD and Distortion pre's are pretty cool for the smaller gigs or light studio work. Sounds great in front of all my amps and direct into the board (live or studio). I play a lot of jazz, R&B, funk, folk, many rock genres, just no banjos. Heh, works great and is extremely versatile. For me it's a winner. A+ and had I not bought a G System rack... I never would have thought to buy this for not just convenience sake, but a plethora of sonic "paints" to choose from for the proper application. Great for when I fly out to a gig. Make em cry or melt some faces. Nice job!

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I bought this system when it was new, and I still love it as much as the day I bought it. The chorus is garbage, so use the detune feature, and it sounds awesome. I'm in a post-rock band, so I'm really picky about my delays and my reverbs, and I gotta say some of the settings I'm getting out of this through my Les Paul Standard>>>Nova System>>>Rocktron Vendetta>>>>Orange 4x12 just sounds so clean and crispy. It's built like a tank and I know I can bang it around without breaking it. Also, the boost function is very useful for live gigging. With the compressor and the reverb, you'll get a nice old school country sounding reverb. You can do anything with this thing if you fiddle around with it a lot. I've found the best way to learn more about this unit is to play around with it even if you don't know what you're doing. Use it through the effects loop in your amp and it'll sound amazing. Not a fan of the overdrive, but I like my overdrive more modern. Regardless of your taste, buy this and you'll surely enjoy it as a part of your rig.

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I debated long and hard about getting a G-natural for my acoustic or going with the nova system. I took a gamble on the nova system, and its absolutely amazing. The effects are pristine and the amount of control you have over them is awesome. My drummer literally quit playing during rehearsal to just listen to my acoustic through his in-ears, that's how clean and open my setup sounds. When used with my strat, its equally impressive and has a speaker emulation so you can go straight into the pa. I now have only one pedalboard that works with my acoustic and electric and I couldn't be more pleased with my sound.Martin -> Fishman Aura Spectrum -> TC Nova System -> Digitech Vocalist Live 2 -> PA

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

This review is an addition to my other one. I use the Nova System on the road with amps supplied by the benue and with a variety of guitars: Strats, Tele, Les Paul, Johnny A, PRS 513 ... and the Nova System is great: tones, flexibility, effects, etc.The purpose of this review is to point current and future users to the TC Electronics web site: http://www.tcelectronic.com/Go to the "user to user forums" and click on Nova System. There are lively discussion about connections, getting sounds, setting levels, new features, etc. If you are considering a Nova System (or a G-System from TC), you can learn a great deal about how this system might work for you from really knowledgeable users.

              unacceptable

Comments about TC Electronic Nova System Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

Is unacceptable that a product of a quality brand so famous as the Tc electronics manufacturing a product with such delay in changing patches (presets). Not to use the product live by this problem. I Cant not understand how it passed the control quality. Beyond that I think that the chorus very weak and I use the detune (pitch) to make a chorus that gets better than the original . Absurd that this product has not a volume of output that we may increase when we need to connect directly to PA.Big failure.Otherwise the drives, the tremolo and the delays are excellent.I play professionally for 20 years and already had all the pedals multi effects in the market, boss line 6 etc. If and I was not stolen I would buy another. I would try the M13 line of 6.I love the delays, overdrive, tremolo and pitch shifter intelligent. I hate the delay when changing presets, chorus and phaser, chorus and phaser boss's are much better.Gui
